Also, I was asked to leave the formation lap out. How do you guys think about that? Do you want it to be a thing of the past, or do you still want it to happen?


I like a formation lap... once. Once you do it twice or three times it's boring as f*ck and really slows things down. Plus it always seems to cause at least one person to have an incident.
Take it away and we lose nothing really, whilst we gain a lot in terms of time.

Glad to hear I didn't distract the leading cars when getting lapped.

What happened was that during fueling in pit stop, I somehow managed to speed in the pit and there was obviously a penalty for that. I thought I would loose 10 seconds of my final time or something, so I continued racing. After a couple of laps, I got a warning that my penalty had to be taken by driving into the pit zone again, so I did that at the next opportunity, waited at my spot for 15 seconds and drove out again. But the penalty sign didn't go away. And then after another couple of laps, I was suddenly disqualified for not obeying the rules.

I did drive into the pit at the first opportunity after getting the message of what to do, but obviously I did something wrong, which is a pity, as I believe I had a very good chance to take my first points here.

Over to the race: I had a really nice and fun battle with Bikex the first laps, fair and square, before he distanced me eventually. Congrats to all finishers, especially TMM and Paul who gave us a really nice battle to the end, and thank you BBL for a fantastic stream!

@Bjartne I think you got a drive through penalty instead of a stop - go penalty, a drive through penalty is simply driving through the pit lane on the speed limiter, I think that is why you were DQ'd

Okay, thank you for the explanation jihardy. I had auto pit turned on, so the car stopped itself, to change tires, even though I did it two laps ago. But that's good to know for later though Smile

It was great to be finally part of a race and also finish it. I was most of the race all by myself after mistaking the brakes with the gas pedal in the first couple of rounds twice. Soon I was pretty certain I'd get 7th without a crash by anyone. In the beginning I had a nice fight with Bjartne for the lower ranks, but he luckily always made a mistake soon after overtaking me. In the last laps Luigi was suddenly only 6 seconds ahead of me after taking a pit and I even managed to cut down that gap to 4 seconds for a moment, but then I suddenly made worse and worse lapimes.
I wasn't sure what happens to lapped cars. It showed me the finish flag after the 32nd round. Was it right to then finish the next lap and go into the pit then or could I have stopped right away and ESC?
I kind of agree with Luigi on the setups. This is a cycling forum and not a motorsports one. Some, including me, just don't know what to change on a car and also don't have the time to figure it out. I think it would be fairer if everyone would race with the same setups. The racing would get closer and the race is decided by skill. No doubt though the most skilled racers still finished in the front few places. Wink

I guess you could always ask Paul or someone for their set up, I know Fjhoekie shared his in Bathurst so its not so far removed to think this could happen again. I for one like to make my own set up, just because I'm sad Smile so I wouldnt want that to be removed completely tbh

Yeh, I always share my setups with everyone who is online when I am Smile. Shared Hungary too with a couple of people during a practice, almost everyone had my Bathurst setup and I I believe I used the standard setup on Zandvoort and as I couldn't make the Austria race I never touched any settings there.

Knew i mentioned a "standardised" set-up ages ago!

For a fun league something like this is nessessary in my opinion. Where is the fun in being 4+ seconds a lap off the pace of the fron runners, and you know that a chunk of that is because you don't know how to set-up a car or don't have the time?

Obviously if someone (like fjhoekie) wants to share their set-up then there's no problem, it's their choice. But i think if someone is going to do that then everyone should have access, not just those online at the time. Upload the set-up here if you want you share it seems simple enough.

But if i put in the time to make my own set-up and it becomes a great set-up, i might not want to share it, which i think should also be allowed. Why should i lose my advantage because others don't know how to set-up a car? If i want to do 1000 laps and nail it then i should keep that advantage (but seriously, what person would do 1000 laps for a fun league)

TL;DR
- Everyone should have access to a basic set-up for each track, so they arn't massively slow because of set-up.
- If someone want to share their set-up, it should be done in the thread so ALL have access to it
- Equally if someone as an awesome set-up they don't have to share it

Setups is certainly something to look at. Much was made initially about making sure all cars were equal, but with the factor of custom setups the reality is that it is far from that. Generally speaking, the more experienced at racing games are the faster drivers in the first place. They are also the ones who are better at creating and fine tuning setups, which widens the gap further.

I've been lucky with the last two tracks to be on the server at the right time during the week to receive some of fj's setups plus a few tips from others - but would be good if a standard circuit setup could be shared here as well. Certainly in Bathurst it was pretty obvious once I had fj's setup that the default setup in game was rubbish, as the top speed was far too low.

Driving ability would still be enough to separate people on the track, even if everyone had the same setup.

Would be nice to not lose 10 seconds on every lap so I'd be all in for shared setups, if it so would mean I could minimise that gap ever so slightly, as I'm asloute horrible at making setups and my lack of experience with driving games is pretty visible, I think.

To be honest I spent 5 minutes on set ups and managed 5th place but I do agree with the points being made, as always I think the best way to settle this problem is a vote, vote here:https://strawpoll.me/5650292/

I drove with the default setup, but I had to made some steering radius changes, due to my controller, also I love to have the brake pressure more on the rear, but I know that most people don't like it that far back.

But, tbh, I won Zandvoort with default, raced Austria on default and only in Bathurst I made gearing changes.

Also you can always ask me for my setup, but f.e. Stahli always found it "undriveable"

Also, if I would put some 500+ laps in it to make a good setup(like I've done it in several leagues, the setup would probably make 0.5-0.75 seconds. Fixed setups won't work, because everyone uses a different input device. I can't drive a PS3 controller setup with my XB1 pad and vice versa, also not even talking about wheels.

I agree. I have no problem being overtaken in the turns by someone more skilled than me, which happened many times by Bikex durin the first laps (Pfft), but it's pretty demotivating to see other cars having no problem flying past me on the straight sections, when you know it's solely about the car's performance, not the driver skill.

Many good ideas above here, from both points of view. I understand the people that know a lot about the setups and likes to play around with the settings, making the most out of the cars. But I feel we should also give at least some basic hints to the ones that are completely new to the game to even out the cars a little bit more.

I think the option "there is a setup made by a good driver that we all use" is by far the superior option.

Apparently the default setups are often rubbish, so it would be torture to force the more experienced drivers to use them.
But having everyone on the same setup will definitely level the playing field a bit and thus make the league more fun for everyone.

It's the best of both worlds.

What are the settings that determine whether a setup is good for a type of input device?

Regarding stuff like breaking preference; we can make a pool of drivers who create the setups and rotate them. So every one of them gets to ride with their preferred settings a few times per season. Joining that pool would be optional.

I use the default ones, though Sad

I think its mostly down to the controller settings, since we are all using different controllers/wheels/Miguel stuff...

If we were to use a standardised set up (which I'm not all for tbh), I'd still like some things to be changed as no motorsport is equal anyway and setups are done to suit a particular persons driving style (I'm sure not everyone would like mine and Paul brought it up about Stahli anyway)

I think the best solution is to allow people to customize their own set up, but give people who dont have time to do this a set up from someone else at the practice races/or the race and they could customise that themselves (e.g gear ratios and so forth)
