I'm glad they pulled out of hosting it, 2017 was to soon to go back anyway. It's a pity that GT's continue to start outside of the home country of the race

I don't mind as long as it's a close region. Netherlands was already a stretch for the Tour. Just across the border could work, though, but it's not even necessary.
All a matter of the money-train, I'm afraid. Grand Départ in USA in 3...2...1... |

3 times in 10 years would have been too much, not for any other reason than it costing too much money to host it that many times. I want the Tour to be in the UK, obviously, but i'm not for TfL having to spend the amount it does at a time when it's having to cut back in other areas. If the Depart was in Scotland or somewhere else, and just had one stage in London, that's cool but London can't keep taking the hit.
I like Departs in other countires, the variety is great and i really do like the idea. Provided it's for the benefit of the racing rather than purely for financial reasons (although god knows why the Giro went to Ireland). And if it requires a rest day to get back then it's too far away. Don't compromise the race for financial gain.
Unfortunately ASO and RCS are commercial entities so that financial gain is the main driver for them it seems.

It got out of hand so good news. GB dominating the GC lately doesn't justify starting there 50% of the time.

Cant we just start at a warm and hilly place alá Corsica instead of always starting in the northern flat roads, whenever it is UK, NL or northern France which a) is super boring b) tends to have shitty weather and increases risk of mass crashes.
Start in Languedoc, Massif Central, Provence or something like that and climb the Ventoux on the 3rd day of racing. Now we cookin! |

Qatar and/or Oman would be a dream then. Hot weather and they could hit Green Mountain on day 3.

Nope, I dont really like the Tour to start outside of France, but when they start and goes through shitty regions up north time and time again, I really got no problem with starts in NL (which was good) or Belgium.
Just want them to use the southern regions more, apparently they think they are only available after stage 10 or between the Alps and Pyrenees |

And because the logistics of getting everyone back to France would be very tough to handle in just one rest day, we simply do the other 18 stages there as well.

I agree that the South and center are under-represented, especially in Departs. The furthest south Departs are: Corsica x1, Nice x1, Monaco x1, Fleurance x1 and San Sebastian x1 (yes the 5th most southern start in TDF history was a "northern" spanish town ). Which you can compare to 8 departs in Belgium+Netherlands. So yes it's not great for the South of France.
