Based on the winky faces, you really dont like the most likeable guy in the sport?

No, not really. I like Peter Sagan, but those winky faces means he's a very controversial pro cyclist, on and of the bike. That's why he is that famous.

Apparently Bling was pretty annoyed (explaining his body language after the finish methinks) that Gerro sprinted against him and didn't work for him/lead him out.
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

I already wondered yesterday: what's actually the bigger news for you? Sagan or Pluchkin's GT-double? Smile

Matthews is a hater it turns out

When asked if Gerrans had helped him, he replied: "No, I think we were sprinting against each other unfortunately. We had two leaders so it is was it is."

When then asked if he was disappointed if Gerrans had not worked for him, he added: "Yeah, I would have liked the full support"

The solution to bad routes for WCs just hit me, in that first 100-200km instead of riding around however, throw in some mountains before coming on to the circuit, if a team really wanted to they could set a fast pace up the climb and tire/drop some of the sprinters. Wink Pfft

Like 2018 Innsbruck (is that happening, my google searching didn't get many results?) could have Küthai before whatever circuit, it would spice the race up a bit as I said before. Pfft Wink

Anyway, really hoping Qatar next year has wind and echelons (is the route up yet?

And I'll be at Oslo 2017 Grin

 I never explain myself. Pfft

The world championships are in Bergen, Norway in 2017, I thought they were in Oslo (I just searched it up though), anyway, I'm moving to Stockholm for 2 years so I'll be close enough to go.Grin

So, about yesterday..

A big congratulations to Team Holland to begin with, they really made the race tough and guys like Gesink and Mollema were awesome. Terpstra almost did it, attacking when Stybar was in the lead (who would never chase him because of Lefevre), but Degenkolb reacted, and killed his own chances while doing so. Still, they made the race tough, well done.

Belgium rode a good race at the start, Maes, Keisse and Keukeleire all showed why they deserved the selection. But then the leaders started making mistakes. The first attack had Keukeleire and Vanmarcke in it, but still Gilbert counterattacked and wasted a lot of energy there. Vanmarcke's solo after that was nice, but pointless. Attacking is one thing, but you need to attack smart as well.

And then Boonen, don't get me wrong, I love it when he races like that, but he should've been a bit more Australian there and don't waste so many power when he's the only chance we had in a sprint. And I do see him beating Matthews and Navardauskas after a race like that actually. We should've been in that group, but not with Boonen.

Then just before the last lap, we had 5 guys out of 20 in the leading group, at that point Gilbert or Boonen should've just gone all out and make sure they stay away. But we waited and the next groups got away without any Belgians in there. At that point Benoot had a mechanical, which is just crap, cause I think that final fitted him perfectly.

Then Van Avermeat, very smart racing until the last lap. He ended up in breakaway, but doubted, ok, I can live with that, but then he was just being careless. He attacked that last hill from way too far. Sagan simply countered and went on to win. Granted, a fantastic ride from Sagan and a dick move by Norway, but still, Greg has come to a point in his career where his decisions should be better.

Anyway, a very deserving win by Sagan, he was due a big victory. Matthews, well, nothing against him but lamest tactics ever by team Australia. Navadauskas will be very happy with that bronze as well. Belgium had a good race again, but like last year not good enough in the last lap. We lack a top sprinter for Qatar and Norway will be mountains I heard, so maybe Tim Wellens in 2017?
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

It has nothing to do with them being Australians for me, just that Evans and later Gerrans became the symbol of extreme wheelsucking and boring races, see L-B-L 2014 as an example. People still point to that race and dont hesitate to throw a spicy comment at Gerrans, me included. He has become the pet peeve of that. And it doesn't make it easier that they are both unbearable to listen to..

Anyways, I have never seen Gerrans take a pull, either for himself or for others. Apparantly he thought he got better chances than Matthews yesterday as well which is kinda laughable considering the season he has had. I dont got a problem with Matthews as such, but unfortunately he kinda fell in the same category as Gerrans since they are pretty similar.

But Im not arguing over which is smart racing and not, it obviously is, but its just super boring, thus why many people are rooting against him/them. I dont really care which nation they are from, but it just so happens that my 2 least favored riders come from the great Down Under.

Can't really say he is the most likeable rider in the sport, he's getting better in his behaviour as he gets older but still has a ways to go to make up for the podium girl incidents. I can't deny his racing is brilliant and is very marketable with everything else he does, maybe now as World Champ he could help the sport and call for the end of podium girls

NO! Podium girls stay Grin

Gerrans has only been that type of rider sense he went to OGE and changed the way he raced, his wins previous to that especially the GT stage wins he had when racing for AG2r were completely different to the way he wins and races these days, I agree that he isn't exciting but that wasn't the point I was making about some people's responses after the race. Matthews is simply a different rider so couldn't understand how people were happy that what they termed "wheelsucker" didn't win, he's a sprinter who can handle hills so did exactly what he should of done and waited for the sprint, look what happened at AGR when he followed Gilbert then ran out of legs and was outsprinted at the finish.
On Gerrans not working for Matthews well that was a poor effort but they went in with 2 leaders which can have bad results, it was pretty obvious coming into the last lap that the race would play out pretty much like it did so Gerrans should of gone all in for Matthews but didn't which again was poor decision making, mind you had Gerrans worked for Matthews in the last 2 k's I doubt it would of made a difference as Sagan had that race win as soon as he got the gap after the last cobbled climb.

Oh and Riis123 I know from what I can tell that you don't base your opinions on nationality which does make discussing cycling with you quite enjoyable, also on annoying voices in the peloton I agree Gerrans and Evans are quite annoying but I'd say Contador would have to be on the podium for annoying voices

Think it was Spilak who made a post about the Belgian coach and they again somewhat messed it up - at least they made it hard and pretty much everyone on their team tried, but you should still expect more of the biggest nation on a parcour like this.

Raus!
