EPIC - Season 2 Part 2
PeterRyder
Another nice result by Calzone! Grin

Ollfardh
Thanks both for the reports. Turkey was good from Kittel, but somehow Renshaw didn't bother to show up for the leadout. He was great in Frankfurt, again without a leadout it seems. Last picture is a bit disturbing though, it's one way of celebrating a win.

Marco - I was scared as well when I read it Pfft

Selwink - It's a question I've been asking all season, he was so good last year! Perhaps check his stats for an accidental error?
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Tour of Turkey stage 3

Welcome to stage 3 of the Tour of Turkey. Today is a day for the climbers, as the stage will finish in Elmali. Three more categorized climbs feature on this 150 kilometers long stage.

145 km to go

The riders have reached the first climb of the day. There is a breakaway of 8 riders with a lead of two and a half minute over the peloton.

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tour%20of%20Turkey/stage%203/Turkey%20stage%203%20p1_zpscv5grxrh.jpg

Parra (COL) is the first one to attack for the points atop the Ulupinar. He can't keep going until the top and it is Camano (TNE) who takes the points, followed by Rutkiewicz (CCC).

KoM 1:
1. I. Camano (TNE) - 3 points
2. M. Rutkiewicz (CCC) - 2 points
3. H. Parra (COL) - 1 point

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tour%20of%20Turkey/stage%203/Turkey%20stage%203%20p2_zpszvab31qz.jpg

Hatanaka (COF), Reimer (MTN), Miranov (RVL), Kadri (ALM) and Day (UHC) come back after the climb, making the breakaway of 8 complete again.

110 km to go

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tour%20of%20Turkey/stage%203/Turkey%20stage%203%20p3_zpszjzec2no.jpg

Even though they have someone in the breakaway, Team NetApp starts chasing in the peloton. Their manager must be confused, because they do not have a rider with a chance to win from the peloton. Orica-GreenEdge helps them for Meyer. The break reaches their maximum lead of 7 minutes and 20 seconds.

100 km to go

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tour%20of%20Turkey/stage%203/Turkey%20stage%203%20p4_zpsr5vxh50q.jpg

The break has reached the only intermediate sprint of the stage. Rutkiewicz is clearly the fastest rider in this group. He is followed by Kadri and Miranov. Their lead over the peloton has shrunk to 6 minutes and 20 seconds.

Sprint:
1. M. Rutkiewicz (CCC) - 5 points
2. B. Kadri (ALM) - 3 points
3. A. Miranov (RVL) - 1 point

80 km to go

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tour%20of%20Turkey/stage%203/Turkey%20stage%203%20p5_zpsj83h5rki.jpg

The breakaway has reached the second climb of the day. Atop the Gökbük lie 3 points for the first rider. This time Camano goes first, but he is overruled by Miranov. The Russian is followed by Rutkiewicz and Day. The gap to the peloton is 6 minutes.

KoM 2:
1. A. Miranov (RVL) - 3 points
2. M. Rutkiewicz (CCC) - 2 points
3. B. Day (UHC) - 1 point

55 km to go

On the third climb of the day, the front group shatters in pieces. Parra and Rutkiewicz fight for the 10 points atop the Göltarla. Rutkiewicz wins, while Hatanaka and Camano come back to the front.

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tour%20of%20Turkey/stage%203/Turkey%20stage%203%20p6_zpsjovrasad.jpg

Lots of riders are having a hard time in the peloton on this climb, as Euskaltel increases the pace for Nieve. The biggest victim of this move is Cameron Meyer. of Orica. He must have a really bad day considering that Kittel is still in the peloton.

KoM 3:
1. M. Rutkiewicz (CCC) - 10 points
2. H. Parra (COL) - 7 points
3. T. Hatanaka (COF) - 5 points
4. I. Camano (TNE) - 3 points
5. B. Day (UHC) - 1 point

25 km to go

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tour%20of%20Turkey/stage%203/Turkey%20stage%203%20p7_zpswpgzxktw.jpg

The breakaway is close to being caught. Balloni and Houle of Bardiani attack from the peloton and they have a gap of 20 seconds. A lot of teams are chasing though, so it will be a challenge to stay away until the final climb. The group with Meyer is already 5 minutes behind. He is out of contention for the overall victory now.

15 km to go

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tour%20of%20Turkey/stage%203/Turkey%20stage%203%20p8_zpsjeudzaa5.jpg

Just before the right turn towards the final climb, Balloni and Houle are caught. The breakaway is only 40 seconds ahead. The winner of the stage will come from the peloton.

10 km to go

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tour%20of%20Turkey/stage%203/Turkey%20stage%203%20p9_zpsh7y41p9m.jpg

Only Parra remains of the break, but he is just 20 seconds ahead of the peloton, which is being led by Euskaltel and AG2R.

5 km to go

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tour%20of%20Turkey/stage%203/Turkey%20stage%203%20p10_zpsbh5jyedp.jpg

The riders are now entering the steepest part of the climb. It will be at least a 7% slope until the finsh line. 43 riders remain in the peloton and all the stage favourites, except for Meyer, are still there.

2.5 km to go

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tour%20of%20Turkey/stage%203/Turkey%20stage%203%20p11_zpsgdatt8rb.jpg

No one has attacked yet, while Landa is maintaining a high pace. Barguil and Nieve look to be a bit far back.

1.5 km to go

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tour%20of%20Turkey/stage%203/Turkey%20stage%203%20p12_zpssqzlpxsg.jpg

Nokkvason is the first rider to attack. The organisers forgot to give him the right jersey, so he is still riding around as the Armenian national champion. He is followed by Acevedo, Nieve and Pellizotti. Deignan also tries to follow, but he will have to close a gap.

1 km to go

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tour%20of%20Turkey/stage%203/Turkey%20stage%203%20p13_zpsmbsxzqks.jpg

Nokkvason is leading the small group into the final kilometer. He is the first to launch his sprint towards the line. Acevedo does not follow immediately, so Nieve and Pellizotti will have to close a small gap.

500 meter to go

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tour%20of%20Turkey/stage%203/Turkey%20stage%203%20p14_zpsxj6mfjio.jpg

Nieve is now flying past Nokkvason and is on his way to claim the victory. Barguil was caught out earlier and he is giving everything now to close the gap.

Finish

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tour%20of%20Turkey/stage%203/Turkey%20stage%203%20p15_zpsxsvgbdgc.jpg

Nieve easily wins the stage and has plenty of time to do his best Sagan impression. Nokkvason and Acevedo round of the podium, while Pellizotti finishes in 4th place. Barguil and Gadret lose a bit of time here, but they manage to limit their losses to a minimum. Euskaltel show their climbing strength as Landa and Izagirre finish 8th and 9th. For some reason the gap created by Nieve does not count, so Pellizotti will be the new leader in the General Classification.

Not bad by Barguil, considering all support was for Kittel. Good win for Euskaltel and also good to see the CT teams score here!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Nice performance from Nokkvason, might be able to win his first race Grin

Also a bonus with Rutkiewicz taking the KoM, so can't wait to see how this develops Grin

Thanks for the Report Smile

The timekeeper was kind to us to put Pellizotti in the lead. Let's see if the Cofidis boys can defend the jersey.

Good job Nieve. Keep that up and you might keep leadership status within the team. Hopefully he can follow up on it on one of the following stages.

Also good to see Nokkvason doing so well.

Please someone take Primavera. It's one of the most important races all year for Euskaltel so I probably shouldn't...

That would be great, thank you! Can you pass him the startlist, Jandal?
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Tour of Turkey stage 4

Welcome to stage 4 of the Tour of Turkey. The stage will start in Gocek and finish in Marmaris. It is not a very difficult hilly stage, but there might be some action on the final hill, with its top at 8 kilometer from the finish line. It is likely the race will end with a reduced bunch sprint.

110 km to go

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tour%20of%20Turkey/stage%204/Turkey%20stage%204%20p1_zpsou2qhvzd.jpg

Lemoine (SOJ) is riding alone at the moment, but Feunard (CCC) and Hardy (COF) are 45 seconds behind him. We will have a breakaway of three riders today as the peloton is already two and a half minute behind.

95 km to go

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tour%20of%20Turkey/stage%204/Turkey%20stage%204%20p2_zpsj0570vuu.jpg

The breakaway is on the only categorized climb of the day. None of these three riders have any points in the KoM Classification, but they still fight for the points. Feunard is the first one over the line, in front of Hardy and Lemoine. One point remains for the peloton and it is Miranov (RVL) who attacks first, but he is too wild in his actions and crashes. He can continue though. Luckily he does not take anyone else with him. Meyer (OGE) takes the last point.

KoM:
1. P. Feunard (CCC) - 5 points
2. R. Hardy (COF) - 3 points
3. C. Lemoine (SOJ) - 2 points
4. C. Meyer (OGE) - 1 point

80 km to go

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tour%20of%20Turkey/stage%204/Turkey%20stage%204%20p3_zpswkzfx8ow.jpg

The three leaders don't bother with the intermediate sprint. Feunard crosses the line first, with Lemoine and Hardy following him. They have their maximum lead here of five and a half minute. In the peloton, IAM and MTN are the teams taking up the chasing duties.

Sprint:
1. P. Feunard (CCC) - 5 points
2. C. Lemoine (SOJ) - 3 points
3. R. Hardy (COF) - 1 point

50 km to go

The breakaway has a lead of three minutes now. The riders will soon enter the hilly final. IAM and MTN are still the only teams interested in chasing the breakaway.

25 km to go

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tour%20of%20Turkey/stage%204/Turkey%20stage%204%20p4_zpswcbd8ihb.jpg

Lemoine is leading his breakaway companions on the first of the two hills in the finale of this stage. They still have a lead of 2 minutes and 40 seconds. In the peloton, AG2R has taken over the chase for Gadret.

20 km to go

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tour%20of%20Turkey/stage%204/Turkey%20stage%204%20p5_zpsbkqtqgkx.jpg

Lemoine attacks from the break and neither Feunard nor Hardy is willing to to close the gap. They have stopped riding and are caught by the peloton a few kilometers later.

10 km to go

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tour%20of%20Turkey/stage%204/Turkey%20stage%204%20p6_zpsyewina4e.jpg

Only 40 seconds remaining for Lemoine. Attacks come from the peloton on the final hill of the day. Ciolek (MTN) seems to have good legs today and he goes looking for the stage win. The German is followed by Gadret (ALM), Denifl (IAM), Pellizotti (COF) and Polanc (LAM). In the peloton it is now Euskaltel who are chasing for Nieve.

5 km to go

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tour%20of%20Turkey/stage%204/Turkey%20stage%204%20p7_zpsoadhpmck.jpg

In the downhill section towards the finish line more riders start attacking, bringing the gap to the leaders down to 20 seconds. No rider has dropped from the peloton yet, so it will probably come to a mass sprint after all.

3 km to go

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tour%20of%20Turkey/stage%204/Turkey%20stage%204%20p8_zpsarugmhwy.jpg

Meyer attacks, but Euskaltel is not willing to let him get away. The Basques are leading out Sanz, and they have put him in a great position here.

2 km to go

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tour%20of%20Turkey/stage%204/Turkey%20stage%204%20p9_zps2iad0rdo.jpg

Meyer has created a small gap, but it is now all flat roads to the finish. It would be a great move if he is able to hold on. Sanz and Ciolek are sprinting for the stage win and they are coming fast towards Meyer.

1 km to go

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tour%20of%20Turkey/stage%204/Turkey%20stage%204%20p10_zpshlhxyblo.jpg

Sanz has overtaken Meyer and he looks to be on his way to the stage win here, unless someone comes from behind in the last kilometer. He seems to be slowing down already.

500 meter to go

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tour%20of%20Turkey/stage%204/Turkey%20stage%204%20p10_zpshlhxyblo.jpg

Sanz has indeed run out of energy and is falling back. Matthews is now in the lead and he is on his way to take the stage win here for Orica-GreenEdge. Barguil and Hivert also look to be overtaking Sanz.

Finish

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tour%20of%20Turkey/stage%204/Turkey%20stage%204%20p12_zpsz4owuftz.jpg

The stage win goes to Michael Matthews. A well timed sprint from the young Aussie. Barguil surprises everyone here with a second place, while Hivert takes the final podium spot. Sanz falls all the way back to the 7th place. Ciolek once again fails to get a top 10 finish in Turkey.

Cool to see Sanz getting some support for the sprint. Every point counts and after all her is designated to become the best Basque sprinter in history...

Thanks for the report. Now anxiously awaiting Primavera
