Holy crap! Well at least he's tried and what an attempted winning the stage and many points for everything else for me if it had been Nerz there as well they could of really challenged the GC here but it would of been unfair on other riders really so I will just take this luck and be happy |

Not sure if Hacecky's 31st in the GC should be called horrible AI, as I don't think it's easy for a 77 climber to defend an OP 11th in the GC
Not sure, what happened to Majka though. Guess a 76 climber would always struggle here. Bad early positioning and gone is the stage. Might have overlooked a crash, can't rule that out.
Congrats to roturn, Gusta and Count for the podium. Machado a bit unlucky to miss out on the GC, but two stage-wins were nice anyway. Keizer saved the best til the end then. Huge victory, special congrats to your first GC-win, roturn

Uh... What?
That's got to be one of the most impressive stages in MG history, with Intxausti picking up a Gomez Marchante-like performance to sort of redeem his lackluster efforts in this event. Glad to see that happen actually.
On the other hand I don't quite know what to think of this race. With Machado dominating this so up to this last stage I thought we would finally break the deadlock and take victory home. And then, especially after the TT (which should be the day he could eventually lose time to Keizer), he loses a massive 2min. I can't complain much after his performances so far. Keizer is no fluke either so congrats roturn just make sure this never happens again.
Thanks a lot for the outstanding reports, tsmoha. Tremendous race

What a stage to finish this insane race.
Congrats roturn for your first GC win. Must feel great to see it - especially in such a race. Did not believed Keizer would have a chance on the top spot of such a race but he was strong on all stages and improved in crunch time.
Thanks Tsmoha for yet another great race!
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Really brajko not only missing the top 5 goal, also missing massive points here by only performing good one 1 stage. Rest were well below pair. Finishing below Valls here is hard to call satisfying.
Congratz to Roturn, massive race for Keizer!
The stage were epic though, thought Intxausi Had the GC aswell. Just wish I was more involved
Huge thanks for the reports, well Written!

Some crazy goings on there, 20 min gaps. That would have been something if that stuck, great to see a big name go in the break if he is down in the GC. Great see to Roturn take the GC, but Keizer and VDB are becoming a bit too consistent for these mountainous races (especially when other favourites keep missing out).
Contador, made us sweat, but we accomplish our top 5 goal. So: After some bad luck this is a great response, a Bonsucro legend! I imagine he must still be in the individual rankings hunt, but I don't know, and I don't expect an update anytime soon.
Great race, thanks for the show. |

He was 11th before the final stage, and is the 25th best climber. So to drop 20 spots is too much. Way too much. He was 25th best climber from point 0, not from point leading by several minutes.
With 18km to go he was with these riders:
Sella
Eastman
Lövkvist
Valls
Panayotov
Hacecký
A few of them are significantly better, the rest only slightly... Here is how things ended up on the final mountain:
11 Rafael Valls Euskaltel-Air France + 4'14
13 Ryan Eastman Project: Africa + 7'25
17 Emanuele Sella Siam Cement - Lenovo s.t.
19 Petar Panayotov Lululemon/Bulgaria Blackfish s.t.
23 Thomas Lövkvist Swedbank-PEAB +8'40
78 Martin Hacecký Festina-Canal+ +21'20
Losing a minute or two to Lövkvist - Maybe. Losing 13 minutes? Really? Had he lost those 13-15 minutes like he should have, he would have been around 15th like Hirschlein - Who is similar but slightly worse.

A race with this much mountains would never be great for us but Lövkvist ending at 16 in GC is okey! |

Well thank you for finally doing what you're paid for. Why not earlier...
Indeed, Nerz joining Intxausti up front could havechanged the outcome by quite a bit, but not even one of our secondary leaders joined the break, so why should our leader do.
Thanks tsmoha and congrats roturn. Prio certainly must feel ambivalent about this.

No idea how you manage it, but again, great pace, thanks a lot!
Stage 1: Marquez should definitely be in the first big group here, but nothing is lost just yet. Also this is the kind of race where the likes of Serrano or Rajala should be getting in breakaways.
Stage 2: Fucking beauty, what a win. This race is a succes for us now already, no matter what else happens. GC top 5 would of course be fantastic, and only five seconds away. Will still be hard to achieve though, some fierce competition.
Stage 3: Some massive gaps, Florentino playing exactly the role I'd have expected from him. Nice from Clarke to get in the breakaway, hopefully still had the energy to help his leader a bit. 5th in GC is still only 20 seconds away, and I reckon Valls can be beaten by that amount, but I'm not sure who else can.
Stage 4: That was a fairly OK TT from Marquez, I've seen a lot worse. Still, that 5th spot is gone now. Nice report btw, I know how hard it is to get TTs right, but you nailed it.
Stage 5: Jeez, dat stage. Fantastic ride by Intxausti, probably left the botd too early though. Well done by Marquez as well, managed to stay with his group and even gain a place in GC - not so far off 5th after all! All in all a good race for us, and nice to see two breakaway appearances too.

Ugh, well this race continually got worse for the team, only one breakaway, and little to show for that. Quintana had at least been putting up a good fight for best young rider, but a horrific last stage ruined that as well. Fairly disappointed with the results and perhaps a lack of effort.
