Ah ok thanks. So a pretty impressive recovery then! Hopefully the Quintana of today is what we see more of later on in the race, and a decent finish is possible, especially considering the time-trialling strength of the top 10, only Valverde, Majka and obviously Dumoulin are noticeably better than Quintana.

I'm not a Quintana supporter. He's one of my least favourite riders, so I was happy to see him getting dropped during the last days.
I have never understood the pleasure of seeing a rider suffer just because you don't like them but that's you're choice, what is it that you don't like? (I'm not having a go at you in any way I'm just curious)
I just don't like him. And I don't like to see him suffer. I like him to lose time on guys I like more. Thats everything. I wouldn't like seeing him winning the Vuelta, so I don't hope that he gains more time.

I'd like to see him recover just so we can see race that goes down to stage 20, same reason I'd like to see Dumoulin keep hanging in as it keeps the GC an exciting race

Vuelta TT's can throw some odd results so it's a matter of who's in condition, I remember Pozzovivo putting in his best ever TT in a Vuelta

If Quintana can gain 2:30 min on Aru these two next MO stages, i think he can take the leaders jersey on the timetrial (if he is in shape, like he looked to be today) |

Majka been working on his TT recently. From top 10, only Dumoulin does it better
Ofc it is after 2 weeks of racing, so anything can happen there, don't see Quintana taking so much time on aru and all other contenders. If diffrence between Aru and Dumulin will be 1-1:30 mins, then he is probably the only one who can take this win |

Thats usually because the Vuelta ITTs are a little bumpy at least. I would have to go back and look but thats what I remember. |

he can take time for sure but unless Aru completely cracks or falls off his bike there is no way he can take anywhere close to 2 minutes in the next two stages.
The final climbs are hard but sunday the last 2km is only where we will see attacks and Ermita de Alba is brutal but only 7km long. Aru has shown nothing to make anyone think he will lose time like that. |

I'm firmly in the 'Quintana can TT, but Froome, Nibali and Contador are very good which makes him look bad in comparison' camp but I'd say Majka is a pretty decent at time-trials, he finished 4th in the long TT at the Giro last year.

Quintana TT's just fine for a climbing GC rider, in fact Quintana TT's well for a GC guy straight up, riders like Froome are just exceptional GT TT riders. Also I could be wrong but Quintana has done well in TT's against any GC guy in this field

Yeah but to finish 3rd in a TT with the 2 riders to beat you home are Martin and Cancellara then you have have to be in good condition which goes to my point

I would be surprised if Quintana just more than merely have picked up his TT bike this year considering the Tour-peak. T-A isnt a good reference, but as far as I remember he was decent in Romandie. Obviously Tom will be better, Valv might be a little better as well, Majka, Aru and Quintana are pretty equal and Rodriguez, Chaves, Nieve and Moreno are pretty horrendous on such a course. Normally. Which make me think Quintana will do a godlike TT considering he is a 3rd week mastermind and only lose time to Tom D.
Being a realist, podium for sure is an option, but I just hope he feels even better tomorrow, progresses and has the mental strength to really go for it. If so, it pretty much starts tomorrow at Cabrales.

It's funny how people start making suggestions for the TT, when there are two very hard Mountain top finnishes before that. Even today where I thought it would be a quiet stage and nobody would loose more than 10 seconds from the GC guys, we saw lots of attacks for 4 kms. We'll probably see a lot more before the TT and there will be some real fireworks from Quintana, Pozzovivo, Aru, Majka, Chaves, Purito. Dumoulin will most probably ride with steady tempo trying to limit losses as he did today. Cuz if he manages to stay within 1:30 from the red jersey, he'll most probably wear it after the TT. I honestly think from the top 9 in the GC he has the biggest chances of top 3 together with Aru and Majka. A win will be hard but top 3 is within reach for sure. Aru was too naive today trying to gain time on the Dutchman and another one might seriously put him in danger to riders such as Majka, Purito or even Quintana as he looked so strong today. |

I've got my money on Dumoulin missing the podium by the time this race in done, I just don't see him hanging in long enough with the stages left and I also don't think he will have the monster TT everybody thinks he will

Well, he proved he is in shape, he proved he recovers well on rest days and he proved he can limit time losses. I think he has a great chance to get into top 3. Aru is in good shape as well but after Contador humiliated him in the Giro TT I'm not so sure he can resist Dumoulin. Also I think Nairo will go from far out to gain back time and merge the gap and that will exhaust Astana's seven men. Majka is a mystery for me. He doesn't seem to be in good shape, but is a better TT-ist than Aru, Purito, etc. In the mountains he doesn't look too bad nor too good. We'll see what will happen. |
