Well I guess we were wrong about an old rider who hasn't shown anything for a few years winning the vuelta this year (unless Roche wins)...

Btw, Valverde finished on the same time as Quintana. How exactly? I'm 100% sure I saw him reach a couple of seconds behind Nairo.

Landa lost 15 minutes. That's his GC done for.

Tom Dumoulin fucking epic. This is insane. Ofcourse he'll lose the jersey and give up the GC after the coming Andorra stage with 6 mountains, but he'll at least have this. Wow.

I frankly think this was one of the best shows in cycling I've ever seen. Speechless about Dumoulin, sealed as my new favourite rider.

OK. How will Dumoulin ever survive with the team he's got?
Disclaimer- Most of my posts are me thinking aloud. And most of what I think is rubbish.

Froome is going to win Vuelta. Purito and Valverde doing same thing like last year. Just look at each other. Froome will be very strong in last week.

This will be very intresting. Especially Wednesday.

Yet again La Vuelta proving to be the most exciting GT as it seems to be every year now. Dumoulin just incredible and physically he defies belief on a steep climb like this, he's suited with his TT skills to ride long mountain climbs but he's impressing on the shorter steeper ones at the moment.

Quintana seems to lack some spark at the moment but is always strong in the third week.

Have you watched the Vuelta? Others have simply been stronger so far... pretty simple.

A little rundown of the favorites. Rodriguez and Valverde have both been expected to shine early on, but its clear that Valverde have been through a super tough Tour and isnt 100% early one, while Rodriguez simply doesnt have the kick he used to have at the moment. I very much doubt it will come later for Rodriguez, while I think Valv is decently fine with how it has gone so far. 1 stage win is fine, but he hasnt looked especially good on the other finishes so far. Seems to be that he has evolved a bit more of a diesel motor than before. Podium is still within reach, but Im quite sure he wont win it anymore.

Aru has looked good the last couple of stages. The best at Alpujarra which bodes well, but I just still feel its gonna be hard to even podium in this field since the big guns presumeably will get better as the race drags on. This is not a weak Giro-field.

Froome? I somehow had thought he would be gonzo today and lose even more after the lost 30 sec on that easy MTF, but he really did pull a rabbit. Reminds me of 2014-Vuelta Froome which doesnt bodes well for the other guys.

Quintana, I guess, along with Froome are the most confident of the big favs. He seems to get gradually better as always, doesnt like the heat, nor does he like super explosive climbs. He has defended himself quite well so far and is ready to kick ass. I dont think he will in Andorra, but I could see him go bananas in Asturias at stage 16.

Dumoulin is just.. I dno. I have said it numerous times at this forum that he should give it a try and it seems he has. Everytime I have get downvoted and told there a many more races than the Tour and he should focus on TT and ardennes. It has just seemed pretty obvious to me (without sounding like a jerk, I probably do lol) that he has the stature. Super lean, decent climber and super time trialist. Imagine if he really focussed on his climbing, the guy can obviously pull some insane wattages.¨

I thought Chaves would win again today, but bonked completely on the last K. I guess its good for him to escape the jersey now and get a lil more relaxed and focus on Andorra. I have honestly no clue whats in store for him there, but I can only hope.

Majka is fine, while Pozzo seems a little under par so far. Had expected he would be better. I think Majka will top-5, maybe top-6, not more, while I cant see Pozzo doing much here apart from rounding the top-10 out.

Froome is getting stronger day by day which is good to see

Wow.

Dumoulin's ascendance, while surprising, is not entirely remarkable. He is definitely in the mold of Wiggins, a time trialist who can lose enough weight to be competitive in the mountains. The obvious question is whether or not he can last for three weeks. My guess is that he'll pull a Porte/Thomas and die on the Andorra stage.

As far as the overall win goes, Froome still looks like a decent candidate. He is going to continue with his usual Vuelta yo-yoing and ride into form. This year, Contador isn't here to spoil his party. The question is whether Valverde, Rodriguez, Quintana, or Aru can rise to the occasion.

Valv seems tired from the tour, Rodriguez not so much, but he doesn't have the watts to match Quintana or Aru. Quintana has been quiet so far, but he definitely has more in store. Aru has shown himself quite a bit, and didn't ride the tour, so he is still in the mix. But like Riis123 said, this isn't the Giro.

For me, at the moment, the race is between Froome, Quintana, and Aru, in that order.

Just saw the result. Ridiculous

I hope Dumoulin can win though, would be amazing. If he can hang with the favourites on the Andorra stage he has to be considered.

wait, are people really considering Dumoulin for overall victory now?

I think most people are forgetting the simple fact that he is Dutch and therefore cannot win Pfft

Dumoulin is rider with big heart. He saved a day. Was cought..then he recovered and did go again. Great fighter. Ofcorse he will be cracked soon..but so far it has been amazing show. I like that Giant team

Spaniards should unite forces against froome..attack/slow/attack/slow is not working. Constant hard pace when he is dropped. Other way he will crawl back.
Problem is he will be stronger and stronger after every day.

I still dont now who will be best when mountains come..Froome is one who will be there for sure. Mad Vuelta so far.

I have never seen such an eye-brow-raising performance as Dumolains today. The epo jaw is definately empty, combined with a blood bag and some delicious CERA topped with a bit of AICAR. Fantastic entertaining stage, froomes yo-yo style is always fun, Dumolains attacks wild, and hes finaly sprint was out of the World. However that performance smells he just outclimbed all the best in the world (Tour or not he still did it)
Ps. He looked like Armstrong aestetics wise. Banana

Stage 11 is going to be crucial to drop Froome. Hard pace all day would kill him. But I'm afraid that won't happen. Sad

I don't think the Tour field has it in them to attack from far in the Andorra stage. They are all too tired. They will just pace sky/movistar doms all day and then go at the final climb.
