It happens often at the end of GT's after multiple infractions (and warnings by the jury) by the same rider.

But first time no. They never throw him out the race. 10 second penalty is the standard.

heres the footage of nibs holding onto car, very bad

Wow this is completely bonkers. To disqualify him is the only right decision.

Harsh decision on Nibali, imo.
But serves Astana right.

Kinda contradictory view, I know.

But as mentioned before it happens in every race but they way
Astana and Nibali did it was "tiny wee bit" to much.

Wonder what they'll come up with to get rid of the other non-spanish GC contenders. Grin

How was it harsh? It's not like he held on for a second, the car pulls up next to him then suddenly Nibali shoots away from the group he was in by a couple of hundred metres, it wasn't harsh it was a well deserved DQ from a rider who should know better.

Wasn't he DQed because of being BEHIND the car? Iirc, that's what happened...

Anyway, well done Vuelta! This guy shouldn't be there, and he won't be there Wink

Talk about the Vuelta and the UCI making itself the laughing stock of the sports world in just two days of a race people were actually looking forward to.

The TTT was a mistake but what was wrong with today's stage?

Same thing, similar thing, don't remember what is was exactly.
Anyhow DQing a rider for slipstreaming or boosting
doesn't occur that often. Usually they get "negative time boni".
So that's harsh, imo.

And why shouldn't Nibali be there?
Not like he's the only fishy rider from a fishy team.

You kick out a top 5 rider who was caught up in a crash he had nothing to do with.

If a favorite gets hurt in a crash that sucks for a race but when he has nothing to do with it and isnt hurt, works his ass off to get back into somewhat contention and you kick him out its clear there is an agenda.

Especially when the UCI continually changes the rules to allow for certain riders to remain in races, or just turns a blind eye to the same actions that got Nibbles kicked out in the second stage of a GT.

Its a Spanish race.... Just like we know Nibbles wouldnt have been punished at all if this was the Giro.

It's not like he held on for a second grabbing a bottle, he holds on and the car noticebly speeds away from the group with Nibali holding on, it was a blatent breaking of the rules, there was not grey area and thus he should of been DQ'd. Also he did it on camera which was broadcasting live what was going on so they really had no other choice but to kick him out.

He held onto the car just as long as plenty of others, difference is the driver put his foot to the floor. Judging by all the other work he did to get back on and make his finish respectable DQing him is idiotic.

It gave him no advantage other then recovering from a crash he didnt cause.

We should be praising him for keeping the loss of time as limited as it was instead he is getting thrown out because he is Italian.

@Choklets Just because what he did 2day...

And it's obviously unfair upping your speed holding on a car... Then everyone could do it, why not climbing Alpe d'Huez held on a Ferrari!?

Except that it did give him an advantage towards all the others trailing. He just rode off on his own and the others were left in his dust to return to the front on their own power.
He can do it because he's Nibali.
Only he can't.

Fair. Smile

Anyone would have been DQ for something like that.

I mean seriously he took hold of the team car and then they raced up to the main peloton with 80-90 km/h

There was nothing to argue against not DQ´ing a rider who does that when its caught on tv like this was.

Nibali should have known better but i think he was smashed and they didn´t think.

The other riders could have done it as well. But Nibali is a team leader. Please explain why he should be punished because some other idiot crashed?

Please explain how the UCI has more times ignored the rule then enforced it?

Please explain why the UCI changes rules every race to appease the big names but this time because you dont like Nibali you are all excited for him being DQed.

You are showing just as much hypocrisy as the idiots who run cycling.
