We have already begun to discuss this race in the news, so why not just make a separate one already, right?!
The route looks fine, but the question is who will start. TJ, Landa, Aru, Majka, Valverde, Pozzovivo and Rodriguez have already confirmed their starts, while Froome, Nibali and Quintana arent 100% sure yet. Contador is the only 'big' GC-gun who already have turned it down. So far, so good. I would say 2 out of the 3 are very likely.
Its somewhat a classic Vuelta, lots of uphill finishes in the start for puncheurs, including explosive guys like Rodrigued and Valverde as well. A TTT kicks it off, very short, with a flat medium-long ITT after the big mountain stages. Nothing really fancy, apart from stages 11 and 16 mentioned earlier which both are brutal in their own ways. Like, probably the best mountain stages between the 3 big GT's.
Of lesser GC names capable of top-10 or surprising with an even higher placing, lets look at some other names who are scheduled to start: Niemiec, Navarro, Nieve, Amador, Atapuma, Sanchez, JVB, Alaphilippe, Chaves, Talansky, Zoidl, Poljanski and Monfort. I'll keep this thread updated up until the start with confirmed participants etc., while relatively important warmup races like Pologne, Burgos and maybe even l' Ain also kicks off shortly, revealing some's form (Hi, Betancur). Wouldnt be surprised to see some of the french climbers as well?
Anyways, the route is on PCS. Here are some more in-depth look at stage 11 and 16 while also putting it in historical perspective and figures, gradients etc. for the 6 finishing climbs in this year's Vuelta which seems more balanced than previous editions and as some in here mentioned, not as backloaded. Most definetely worth a look if you are into that kinda stuff. Worth to mention, Sotres Caballar (stage 15) and Alpujarra (called Capilera in the link, stage 7) have a relatively long plateau of false flat, thus not making the % telling of their real toughness:

Alla #Vuelta ci sarò anch'io con @FabioAru1 #Landa e tutto il @AstanaTeam che spettacolo per i nostri fans Tutti uniti per un solo obiettivo
Nibali will do the Vuelta with Landa and Aru and they have 'one united goal', I wonder what that would be!

Quintana still not sure. |

they have 'one united goal'
That's a terrible translation
Tutti uniti per un solo obiettivo = We will be united to achieve one goal

'11 Cobo
'12 Contador
'13 Horner
'14 Contador
'15 ???
'16 Contador
Logically speaking, this year's winner will be a relatively old outsider who is looking for a new contract. My guess is Igor Anton. |

I would like that! But Horner and Cobo atleast shoed something up until the Vuelta, Antón really hasnt shown something Euskaltel...
But if we are going that route, Dani Navarro is my pick! |

Nah, the Italians on that team would rather have Quintana winning than Landa. Ok, thats probably stretching it, but with Nibali and Aru in the lineup and Landa leaving, I fear him getting abused
Should go into the Vuelta like Saxo in 2008 with 3 captains and simply look who is the strongest.

If Valverde continues like he has this year, meaning getting his stuff done and settling the score (L-B-L, Tour podium), he'll win Vuelta too. It's a grand year for him.

I thought no big favorites will be in the race and I hoped that Purito could win it |

I think even if all the big names stayed away Purito would still find someone else who would beat him in the GC

2012 » 95th Giro d´Italia (WT)
I could see someone like Pinot/Voeckler beating him

Giro 2012 hurts my eyes. The whole 2012 season, as a matter of fact. Make it stop! |

Can't never forget how De Gendt was oh so close to winning the Giro on the Stelvio. |
