So looking at the climbing times up the Alpe, if we exclude the 2004 TT times (which makes sense as a TT does skew the times) Quintana went up as the 17th fastest time in history. Now that is seriously fast
You can hardly compare those times. This was by far the easiest stage to Alpe d'Huez. Many of those times were ridden after 200km+, 5 hours already on the bike. It's why I don't like to compare all those times and especially don't like to make conclusions from them.
All I was saying was that it was fast! They also went quickly on the HC before that, so if you want a comparison then let's look at the times in 2011, Quintana crushed those times. Also lets see what the W/kg end up being estimated at, any way you look at it he climbed very quickly today
Here's the full, updated top 100 https://ammattipy...p100-list/
Fastest time since 2006 but of course it doesn't feature every year and plenty of context involved. Froome very similar to his time in 2013 and Quintana a little quicker than his already fine 2013 effort.
Sounds like an exciting stage, will have to catch up with the highlights tonight, constant Twitter refresh probably didn't do it justice |

Having ridden one personally I can also tell you it is study under weight and worst-case scenario 'stacking it'. Bicycle technology is very much consumer-driven, in that companies want to sell you new shiny stuff even if the old stuff works fine.
It's true, my TCR SL comes in around 6.4 kg and that's with alloy bars and the wheel set weighs in at 1500 grams, it's easy enough to get a strong set of carbon tubulars that would weigh in at 1200 grams so with carbon bars the bike would sit at 6 kg. The bike strong! I've have ridden it down heavily rutted gravel descents at speed and it doesn't come apart, it's been hit by a car and no cracks.
It can depend on the impact. I knew a woman who slipped out of the saddle and sat on her top tube, split it in two. And she's only a bit fat.

IMHO, Froome's BEST Teammate was Valverde. Let's be serious, Who gives a fuck about being 3rd?. Nairo could won this Tour if Movistar wouldn't be so obsessed with the "True leader" third position.
It's a Pitty, too much talent wasted, let's hope the colombian will have more chances in future.
There are probably 157 riders who would rather be 3rd overall than where they actually sit at the end of today....
Nairo could have won if he didn't get caught up in a crash earlier in the race. He also could have won the race if he was better in the TT. I cant really recall a point in the race where Valverde was a hindrance to Quintana's chances.
At the end of the day, I think Quintana was the strongest rider in the race from start to finish, but he wasn't strong enough to overcome the gap that Froome had built up early in the race.

There are many factors that can contribute to that, yes hit carbon in the right way and it will crack but it's also an easy repair job. The higher end machines today are alot sturdier than the bikes a few years ago but thats what happens as technology advances. Modern carbon bikes will outlast alloy frames but steel well that's another story.

Sky's calimero complaing about the fans act this last week has really been pathetic. After Froome and Porte now it's Thomas posting a vid of some water getting thrown on the car... Same exact thing happened to ever journo that passed through this noon..

I heard news from team sky interview that froome was sick and had bronchitis those last 2 stages and that's why he lost a big junk of time. |

He didn't perform as he should today that was pretty obvious and you can see that during the stage he didn't feel good during the climbs. But it's things of the pass for him now since he's won the tour |

See this is why he wont have any credibility in my eyes at least. Normally riders when are ill struggle really badly (look van Garderen). I'm sure 95% of the peloton would love to climb as well as he did whilst suffering from Bronchitis.
Just when I thought he might be human and vulnerable sometimes he goes out and says he was ill on this stage |

Fucking SKY, just like Froome's retard sprint for no reason, they do everything they can to discredit the work of the other riders in the Peloton. Its fucking disgraceful and their fans are even worse.
Nothing is going to make me happier than when "Sir" Brailsford is found to be running a doping program. |

Hats off to Quintana for having a go at least , but my best part of the day was when Nibali punctured at the bottom of Alpe d'Huez |

Be thankful Froome had bronchitis, had he been 100% he would have been halfway done with the Vuelta by now.
There's a fine line between "psychotherapist" and "psycho the rapist"

Wouldn't compare TVG condition with Froomes. You don't suffer that much if you have bronchitis, just look at Pozzovivo who finished fifth in the giro last year even though he had bronchitis almost the whole giro. |

That's just one example. Some riders are forced to retire when they have bronchitis. Laurens ten Dam got bronchitis this TdF and finished in the Grupetto on every stage since. Didier abandoned because of Bronchitis. UrĂ¡n got bronchitis in the Giro and lost loads of time.
Don't know about Pozzovivo, but it would've been quite remarkable to be able to finish 5th despite having bronchitis throughout the entire giro. |
