So, as SN posted in an article, there are 5 new widgets on here for rating posts. As it was written in the Article, this is a trial, and feedback is very appreciated and handy during this period. So I thought I would give my thoughts on the updates and allow you all to give your own opinions in the thread.
So the first two sets of widgets are the like/dislike feature, and I absolutely love this! This has been needed for a very long time, and I can't wait to use it. The amount of very shallow +1 posts has been a widespread and acknowledged problem on the sit since I joined it 4 years ago, and this is a very simple fix to that.
On the other hand, the "Nice Idea" widget counteracts that a bit. Normally when I see people say "Nice idea," they expand on it, and I'm worried that people will started to use this tool instead of taking the ideas, elaborating, and developing the discussion that makes this forum thrive.
The "Thanks" feature is alright, but a bit unneeded I feel. It would mostly be used in technical forums, where I feel a discussion between the people with the problem and the person fixing it is in integral to fixing said things. It's okay to be there, but I'm not sure it has much use. And I wouldn't say posts where people express thanks (which is often expanded upon with the new information they have in a post), is at all a problem on Daily, like +1 posts are.
And lastly, the "Zabel'd" feature could prove useful, but you can only get Zabel'd if your Zabel'd post is already there anyway. So if you haven't posted, you weren't Zabel'd, it was just "like it" in reality. Definitely still a fun idea, especially for longtime users of the site. The term "Zabel'd" has even found it's way into my everyday lexicon, which often confuses the people I talk to.
One other thing, is that the "Rate this Post" row, and the row that the actual, finished ratings are shown in are completely different. There is plenty of room on the other row, so I find it cumbersome to have added two new rows to the posts when only 1 is really needed. In fact, it would be practical spacing wise to put the widgets and ratings on the already existing row of Quote, PM, etc. I'm not sure how hard that would be to do, but I think it would be worthwhile. It's a brand new feature, so I'm not upset about this.
So those are my thoughts! A lot of genuine improvement in this, but a couple of shaky things as well for me. What do you guys think? If you have any thoughts, don't hesitate to comment and give them. It would go a long way to helping the admins perfect this feature without a lot of stress and hassle. Thanks!

they will suffer the humiliation of being Zabel'd by being labeld as zabeled. though I would love it "backstage" the system would keep tracks of zabeled

@Jdog
That is actually a point of discussion I'd like to hear your opinions about.
Thought the same, but got pointed out that anonymous disliking would also encourage disliking on the forum which probably should be limited and not be used as often as the like.
I agree with what Baseball has said mostly. I think the only one I would be okay with being removed is "Nice Idea". I think it can be used in conjunction with an actual post, or without one as well, but it may lead to less actual feedback like baseball says, which is always a good thing to have.
Also, I like seeing who likes/dislikes a post I hope it stays that way.
Edit: Im curious, has no one liked my post, or can I just not see my own likes? Im assuming the later (but just wondering).

I like it. I just clicked all the 5 icons on the first post to test it.
Maybe it would be better if one could only either like or dislike a post not both. Maybe remove the like if I press dislike or remove the dislike if I like it.
I think it is good to see who liked or disliked a post. What would be the use of an anonymous liking or disliking anyway. If you don't want to tell somebody that you like or don't like his/her post then just don't click it.
I don't care if it is on two or one line. Yes it takes up some space but it is no comparison to the signatures of certain people.
I agree with the others about being anonymous or not. These are tools that are simple to use, but knowing who likes and dislikes something does mean that you have to be responsible for your opinion on the forum.

Plus, you can't like your own posts without everybody knowing
Not sure how I feel about it. I just hope people don't start posting for the sole purpose of getting likes, which could affect the quality of posts. It's a trial though, so I'm curious as to how it'll work out.
Edit: you can't rate your own posts. That's good I guess!
First of all: Great post, bb. We really appreciate the feedback.

This is a great point.

My thoughts about the "Thanks" button is that it can be used to thank e.g. stage or shirt makers when they post some new content. Or when a user has a question or problem and finds a thread where his question has already been answered, he can simply thank the post instead of bumping the thread with a "Thanks" post. Also, this makes it possible to have e.g. a "Most helpful" award or other statistics which encourage users to help each other.

I agree. It's fun, but I am not sure I see the use for it. However, I hope the community can prove me wrong.

I have had this thought myself, but I am leaving for one week tomorrow and didn't have the time. So it will keep the current layout for at least a week.
Something I thought of, and maybe it would be too much to actually do, but what about getting (optional) notifications when someone "rates" your post.
I could see it being really difficult to implement, and maybe not necessary for more recent posts, but for example, I've made threads with links to dbs for PCM 08 and someone might have just found it today and decided to thank me. I think it would be cool to know when that happens.
Also maybe a total "rating" on your profile might be cool just from a stats perspective. It doesn't need to be public (I'd probably prefer it wasn't, it would kinda clutter the forum layout as well), but it would be cool to see that I've had f.e. 45 Likes, and 31 dislikes ever or that I've been thanked 73 times.

Not difficult at all. There's already a part which sends an email when you receive a new rating. It's just deactivated right now, as people would be spammed. I could just change it to a notification system instead of emailing and then it'd be good to go.
Yeh, the Zabel'd is more for fun than any of the others. I was trying to think of a forum specific one and as BBL says, it's definately a regular part of the forum vocabulary. It may not be used as much as the others, but people won't need to add "Edit: Zabel'd" to their posts anymore, since they can be inundated by Zabel'd ratings instead
On 'Nice idea' or 'Thanks', I don't see why the ratings couldn't be used as well as the usual posts - particularly the posts that are more detailed than simply "Thanks".
@Valv Notifications is listed as a feature of the mod, so it's certainly not impossible. But depending on the amount of ratings posts get, I guess it could be a bit annoying to keep getting notified.
And see, thats why I said optional. I understand it would be quite annoying, so by default it wouldn't be turned on for users, but its something that if you wanted you could do. Personally, I think I'd like it, but I think it would also get annoying for a lot of people too. Having the option would be cool though. (Not email though, I hate email notifications)
The other thing is I think some places dont give a notification for every single thing that requires one, but on a 24hr basis, so if I got 5 likes today, I wouldn't get 5 notifications, but just one at the end of the day, saying I received 5 likes and then tell me where, but that also seems like something that would be hard to do. That would make it less annoying though.
Think it's a.. nice idea. Pretty much everything covered with the 5 choices, though not sure if "Nice idea", as mentioned, is worth it. I.. like that the forum is taking new steps. Maybe I end up seriously.. disliking the dislike button though, who knows. Glad I didn't get... zabel'd.
Thanks guys!

It's a nice idea in general, but let's see how it works out, though.
One button I'm missing, though, is the +1 button. That would be more interesting than 'thanks' in my opinion because those +1 posts really don't contribute anything except to say that they think the same.
So a +1 button would stop those posts and free up some space in the threads
