Is there a good way to protect and lead out your main climber?
I know you can protect a rider with another, and I know how to form a train for sprints, but in climbs I cannot seem to form a trainer by letting them follow eachother..
Am I doing something wrong, or missing something?
Thanks! |

Say if you're controlling Team Sky and you want a Konig-Porte-Froome train. You set Konig to protect Porte, and Porte to protect Froome. You have to do it in order from the top of the train to the bottom or it will not work. You can then control the speed of the train by adjusting the speed of, in this case, Froome |

I can never get the protect - protect - protect chain to work in the chaos of a big climb. I've done it a few times but it gets a bit unwieldy after a few riders. With a strong climbing team I find that having the best 4 climbers protected by the worst 4 (then as they burn off, repeating the process e.g. 2 protecting other two) works quite well. Then at the end have the super domestique protecting the leader until hes wrecked. And manage the climb using dot speed, never maintain position. This enables riders to climb at a high dot number, especially if you've got a climber who can't accelerate well in the attacks. |

What dot effort do you normally use, because I could really use some help to climb the mountains - I find it much harder than in previous versions. |

I don't like to actually protect riders since I think it burns the energy of the helpers way too fast. What I usually do is put the domestiques on relay with effort depending what I want to do. If I want to control a race at a high pace, they are set on 63%, this way they don't burn that much. If it is the second to last mountain and I want to cripple the pack, I put the domestique on a level where he would use all his energy at the mountaintop. This requires a little bit of experience, since it depends on the distance to the top, the rate of ascent and the yellow bar he has left. But 75% and above for a distance under 5km is pretty ok and will hurt others if the domestique is any good. The leader is always on dot with and effort that depends on the speed up front.
For the last climb I never attack with my leader but rather increase effort on dot. If it is really steep, I want more effort, the flatter it is, the more he can relax (just like in tt). |

When the game came out, one of the news additions to the game was the possibility of creating a mountain train a bit like the sprint one. Is that how you do it, by protecting one rider after another because thus is what I used to do on PCM14 and it didn't really work. Does it work now? |

I wish theyd just make the follow feature active all the time ao you can do a proper train and also get your guy to mark a rival instead of missing an attack when you're distracted.
JOP - as skylax said you have to judge what dot power to use carefully. Do it by monitoring the heart rate of your riders to find the right power for distance vs energy remaining.
I guess it shows that there are a few ways of doing it and they all depend on your team capabilities and race strategy. For inatance if you want 2 GC guys to stay in contention you obviously cant burn the 2nd strongest as a super domestique and have to vary tactics accordingly. |
