Haut Var sounds good. Starting in Europe would be best as well. No long journeys in the calendar Wink

Training Camp - Basque Country

Sitting in sunny Bilbao, we had some great training days in the small streets of the Basque Country. Some form for the hills is built up - and maybe some for the cobbled classiques, thinking of a couple of streets we passed...

Being quite strong so far on almost every terrain, climbing is something we have to improve for now. Some amateur rider in Euskadi jerseys overtook all of us, when we were testing on a climb in the Pyrenees. But Frank and Johann starting later in the season and Laurent being ill no trouble on that for now.

sobreespana.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/picos-de-europa.jpg

We had quite a lot of fans talking to our riders, asking for autographs... Cycling is still a big sport in Pais Vasco, especially thinking of the time when Euskaltel was still at first-class-cycling.
Look what we found according to that:

Season opener

It is confirmed that we stay in Europe, but we will have at least a couple of racedays before Omloop. Most likely Tour de Haut Var & GP Marseilles or Algarve.

JM-Project

The JM-Project was found by a group of Belgian, mostly agents working in competitive sports. It should generate money, with which young Belgian sportsmen should be supported and professionally escorted. This should keep these guys out of physical and psychologic trouble for the way the grow up to professonal athletes.

The project was founded nearly at the same time as our team. On our sponsoring trip we had some contact with this project, and we agreed on a partnership to it.

The first event, organized by the JM-Project, is a sports competition taking part in Gent. It contains a couple of sports events:

GENT 2015

1. indoor football tournament: 4 Teams are competing in the tournement. The host KAA Gent from the Flandres, Standart Liege from the Wallonie, VFL Wolfsburg from Germany and PSV Eindhoven from the Netherlands.

2. tennis match: There will be a showmatch between the top belgian player David Goffin and young talent Kimmer Coppejans.

3.track racing: Six Teams send two riders to a track championship in the Velodrom of Gent. There will be Lotto-Soudal (Kris Boeckmans & Kenny Dehaes), Etixx-Quick Step (Iljo Keisse & Stijn Vandenbergh), Wanty Groupe Gobert (Bjorn Leukemans & Jerome Baugnies), Topsport Vlaanderen-Baloise (Edward Theuns & Pieter Jacobs), Leopard-Evonik ProCycling (Kristof Vandewalle & Jelle Wallays) and Wallonie-Bruxelles (Sebastien Delfosse & Antoine Demoitie)

This amazing velodrome in Gent will be the target for Kristof and Jelle soon...

Gent 2015 - Sport for sport

Hi there,
we are Kristof and Jelle, writing from Gent. We spent 3 days here, meeting a lot of sportsmen, well-known pros as well as fascinated kids. A lot of talks and giveaways of autograph-cards have been done.
A lot of money has been collected, and we put our effort in for that. Firstly by riding in the JM track-event, but in secondary also by giving our jerseys to an auction after all the sports have been done. So if you see someone riding a Leopard-Evonik jersey with a small Jelle or Kristof on the side, this guy doesn´t automatically have to be one of us Wink
The track event has been really interesting, the first time in the season we met some of the elite belgian cyclist. So this was kind of an inofficial belgian national track championship for road racers.
Finally we could both compete, but really were not near winning this competition. But winning wasn´t the main issue this time wasn´t it? The fun we had and the attention we got for both this sport and this project made this a really great event. Can you guess the final top three based on pics made a time ago?

Guess it´s not too hard but interesting if you are able to find out who it is.
If you are interested in the other sports, Coppejans won against Goffin in four sets and Liege took the win over Wolfsburg, Gent and Eindhoven.
If you didn´t watched this sports weekend, there is a huge chance that next year the second edition will start, maybe with us again. So stay tuned with our team announcements Wink
Right now we are on our way back to Luxembourg, where we will have our final preparations for the season to start.
You will here form us as soon as the season starts...
Jelle Wallays and Kristof Vandewalle

Goffin lost? Oh man Sad Pfft
And, damn it! Why didn't KAA Gent win?

Okay, let's turn our attention back to cycling now, sorry Pfft

krisa
Yeah indeed why didn't Ghent win they are by far better then standard de liege this season. BTW wolfsburg is even much stronger

Just a short update...this story is NOT done, racing will start as soon as the pcm.daily2015 database is out...
I was away a couple of weeks, so that´s why no updates were made here...for the moment I´m just out of ideas about pre-season content, what can be used without having the DB yet...
Stay tuned Cool

Here we go again...

We all noticed the sad news...no PCM daily database. A heartbreak after the long time we waited for it to start racing, but now we have to go another way.
We will go with the JESGD 2015DB V1.75, some individually (but only marginally) edited stats based on the Ardennes Classics included. Our riders were left untouched, so that we have a clear look on the stats. Martijn & Julian were created based on the pcmdaily 2014 database; David based on his 2014 results...his stats are near the ones of Sebastian Balck.
Stay tuned, it´s time for some racing action soon!

Special thanks
I would once again like to thank the_hoyle for his support, guiding me through the editor to bring our team in the database.

Good news, was coming here to suggest that but you were one step ahead! Looking forward to starting!

15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Season 1

Beginning this season 21 teams will compete in the Pro-Continental division, with more or less ambitions to go up to the highest league of cycling. The strongest sides are the french teams Cofidis and Europcar as well as south african team MTN-Qhubeka. behind that a couple of teams want a part of the cake, especially Leopard, Androni, Bardiani, Wanty and Bora seem to be able to fight for the first places.

Some hard decisions, we went with not too many pre-action races, but especially our young men, who don´t have to deliver early in the season, told us that they really want to try something in the early races. So at the beginning we won´t hunt for big results that much, but try something for our young men.
We thought about the point to limit the time-trials in our pre-goal races, but our team has a lot of talent for TTs, so we think that we should give them the chance of performing on their preferred terrain already before the big races are coming.

Tour of San Luis

magliarosa.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/mirador_del_potrero.jpg

We thought about that Tour of San Luis invitation a long time. Our plan was not to go out of Europe (we had invitations from Dubai, Oman, Qatar and Malaysia), but this one is a special offer. Cycling in South America is growing fast, a lot of talented riders float from there to World Tour Cycling. They offered us a really interesting package:
On the one hand we start there with a team of six riders, come there three days early to have some rides out with young regional cyclists and the San Luis Somos Todos team. Andy Schleck will lead the team out of the car, and will take part in a special event. He will race the Mirador del Portrero against the colombian legend Felix Cardenas, Argentinas top cyclist Eduardo Sepulveda and the national u23 champion Emiliano Contreras.
On the other hand all the money for the trip (like flight, transport, hotel) will be paid by the organisers of the Tour and the cycling federation of Argentina. Another positiv effect is the massive increase of popularity and the growing network for the future market South America.

Stage 1
San Luis - Villa Mercedes 165 km
i1033.photobucket.com/albums/a413/BlackAkinfenwa27/Stage%201_zps5gfw2sq9.jpg

A short, flat stage at the beginning. It has to be a bunch sprint today, they won´t want to giveaway the first chance to a breakaway. The favourites are:
i1033.photobucket.com/albums/a413/BlackAkinfenwa27/Favourites_zpsc3x9s1of.jpg

Right from the beginning two riders attack. They are Giuseppe Fonzi (Southeast) and Maciej Paterski (CCC Sprandi). The peloton didn´t really react to this, so that the couple increased their lead to a maximum of 6"10 with 90 km to go.
i1033.photobucket.com/albums/a413/BlackAkinfenwa27/2015-04-29_00002_zps8o1k7jyv.jpg
The sprinters didn´t want to loose the first stage to a breakaway. The domestiques, especially of Lampre and Androni, increased the pace, and at the second intermediate sprint the lead was down to 2"40 with 60 km to go. Each one of the couple upfront won one of the sprints, while Appollonio (Androni) took both of the peloton sprints. This made him the favourite for the final sprint, so Androni organized the chase to break down Paterski&Fonzi.
We wanted to sit back this and next stage, just to get fresh into the hilly stages.
8 km were just left when the peloton catched the chase. Nearly at the same time Movistar and Southeast had a heartbreak, a bunch of their main man crashed and could not come back until the end (Ponzi, Gavazzi, Izagirre, Amador, Gadret).
Androni set up a great pace to lead Appollonio into the sprint. But from his backwheel the Yauheni Hutarovich came around and took the stage. The belorussijan sprinter and Appollonio opened up a big gap to Ventoso (Movistar) on P3.
i1033.photobucket.com/albums/a413/BlackAkinfenwa27/2015-04-29_00003_zps2vsuuuua.jpg

We didn´t plan to participate in the sprint, but with 1km to go Mathieu decided to put his head down and just ride as hard as he can to see what he can get. He surprisingly ended up at P5, which also meant that he took the Youth Classification for at least one day. Great job by him!

Future Vision

Now that we got the young riders jersey with Mathieu we don´t want to give it away. So we will try to defend it until the mountains come. Laurent and Johann will try to save as much energy as possible for the mountains.

trekbmc
Nice sprint and white jersey from van der Poel. Grin Exciting for the next stage(s)

Ian Butler
Off to a great start!
Mathieu to become a leader in 1 - 2 seasons tops Grin

Croatia14
@trekbmc: We did not expect that, but we like what we see Smile

@Ian Butler: The great thing is that he can already lead us on smaller races. That´s what we want to see by giving him the "young riders free role". Smile

@all: Should we keep the reviews like this for every stage/race? We would have a detailed season then, and a slow but detailed pace.
Or should we shortcut the less important races like San Luis and only make a review for the whole race in cases like these? The focused races would stay like this first review. We would have faster pace for developement, more seasons,... , but we would have less details and screenshots from smaller races.

Ian Butler
I'd say, for starters we keep it like this. Gradually we could start focusing on the bigger races and have smaller reviews for other races? Smile

Tour de San Luis

Stage 2
Tilisarao - Terrazas del Portezuelo 174,4 km
i1033.photobucket.com/albums/a413/BlackAkinfenwa27/Profil_zpsl6xsrk17.jpg

Pretty similar to the last stage, it´s slightly more hilly but there is no change looking at the pre-race favourites.
i1033.photobucket.com/albums/a413/BlackAkinfenwa27/Favourites_zpsc3x9s1of.jpg

Julian was the first man to attack on the day, but he was followed by a bunch of riders, which the sprinters didn´t want to let go.
i1033.photobucket.com/albums/a413/BlackAkinfenwa27/Attacke_Kern_zps5fk886vz.jpg

The next attack came from Nikolai Trussov (Tinkoff-Saxo), and no one wanted to follow. No action from the peloton in response to that, one rider alone is always nice for a peloton to control, especially on a flat stage.
He carried on to the mountain sprint, where he finished first with an advantage of 2"30 to the peloton.

In there Julian came to the fore to achieve the second place at the KOM point, maybe it could be helpful later this tour. Further the peloton decided to push, a big battle for the first intermediate sprint took place. CCC-Sprandi tried to bring Paterski into the lead of the sprinters jersey with five men, but at the end Appollonio took it one again in front of Hutarovich.

The race slowed down a lot after that, so that Nikolai extended his advantage to 3"57 with 40 km to go (at the first intermediate sprint he had only 20 secondds left). The peloton didn´t really chase with full power, and at the second intermediate sprint just after the hill he had still 1"04 for 10 km. On the downhill section they couldn´t really chase him down, and with 33 seconds for 4,4 km it didn´t look too bad. But Androni and Bretagne found something left in the tank, with what they catched Trusov inside the last 500 meters. Van der Poel stayed behind Vakoc, who had his turn upfront around 1,5 km to go, but then couldn´t find a good wheel. From the backwheel of Benfatto (Androni) he could sprint to P8, securing his first place in the youth classification. Yauheni Hutarovich (Bretagne) took the stage once again after some great work of his team in the final kilometers.

What else?

We are happy with the stage. Another Top 10 for Mathieu and no trouble for our climbers.
Tomorrow the first stage with a bigger chance of time gaps appears. We will try to defend the white jersey at the Mirador del Portrero, but especially Henao, Quintana and Sepulveda will bring us into trouble. No big attacks from us then, because the Mountains jersey will be taken by the stage winner, and our riders don´t have the shape for that. Our climbers pointed out stage 5 and 6 for being offensive.

Feedback Corner

@Ian Butler: I like that opinion. San Luis will defenitly stay at this pace as it´s the debut race for Leopard Wink

Good start for the team! Keep the reports like they are. Yes, it is slower than other types of reporting, but it is a good base to start from.
