This one day, HC rated, mountainous classic has attracted many of the most noted climbers in the pro-continental division. The course takes on two ascents of the Alto de Urkiola, with the race finishing on the summit of the second ascent. With hills throughout the stage it may require being more than just a pure climber to secure a decent finish here, though the top climbers are expected to be the most prominent.
Race Favourites:
| | MOUNTAIN | | Inxausti | 82 | | Abal | 81 | | Marquez | 80 | -- | | Kiserlovski | 80 | | Nazaret | 80 | | Kashechkin | 79 | | Samwel | 79 | | Cataldo | 78 | | Nerz | 78 | | Serpa | 78 |
On a good day we may also see the likes of Efimikin and Gerdemann feature heavily. As for the rank outsiders, we might expect to see some of the more aggressive climbers make a move earlier on in the stage. If so the likes of Sinelobov, Barredo, Ndbri and Augustyn may feature in the race.
However, we are on Spanish soil and with the top 3 favourites all being Spanish, it is hard to look elsewhere for the winner.

Not a lot of elite climbers here meaning Efimkin and Topchanyuk will have a good chance to score a decent amount of points here. The support is decent too with Kononenko, Vrecer and Khalmuratov.

Like to see a surprise by Gerdmann though I know it will be difficult to happen.
I think that the victory will eventually go to Abal

Would love a top 10, but it will be hard to get. I will only ask for a top 20. |

Weaker field than I expected, with Marquez's season so far he could even challenge for a win here depending on the stage mo/hill ratio, but would be happy with Top 5.

Breakaway will be good on the day. I don't know what Augustyn will do this time around, attack early or hang around at the back of the pack, whatever, I don't really care

Come on mountain train, time to go to work. Gotta keep up with Oz in the standings and it's one of our win goals. Go Go Abal!

Decent result, Efimkin was where he belongs, as was Topchanyuk. Khalmuratov in the top 30 is good to see as well...

Marquez using his Tour form quite well Shame he didn't win considering how race panned out, but second is superb.
Thanks for the nice report Rider!

I am quite pleased with the performance of Gerdmann in this race, and Eduardo Silva in 21st place helps make this a good race for the team
Thanks for your efforts The Rider

Another terrible race for us... 14th and 15th isn't good enough, especially with Samwel who's one of the best climbers in the race, another failure from him. At least we weren't stuck in the peloton. |

Not the greatest result, as Intxausti should have been able to win this race, but in the end we completed our goal, so it's not to bad.
Thanks for the report, The Rider!

Wow, that team effort for Nerz!!
Normally that's a lost race with the action already happening early enough to usually put the peloton into sleep mode, but that was great work to get back into contention and launch a fresh Nerz into a very convincing 5th place!
With the success in Post Danmark and here, seems like me disappearing from this site did relieve some pressure and brought back the true strenght of my leaders
