Well, you have to upgrade with the help of zcts-files to get a clean and nice finish to races. In most cases it's only to un-ticking of merge in the editor for borders.
Old files most often creates un-clean finish at the corners. Spectators and fences are spilled out into the road, and even worse with the Booths, VIP and other trucks crossing the roads in corners and around the finish line.
If you got a nice little circuit race crossing the finish line a couple of time, this will be horrible to watch.
As Margh Norway tought me it's only to un-tick the merge in the hanling of borders and the generate, but you need the zcts-file.
