Really? That's awesome, wish I could go to school for another three weeks
My year's over now, unless I failed a test, which seems unlikely, already received a 7,5 on Monday's bookkeeping and an 8,7 on Thursday's law, still waiting for English and Financial Accounting.

Bad news in the JDog house today... Received my college grant amount for this year, and it is considerable lower than last year. My dad has been working alot of overtime, so the state things that my family is making more than enough money to support me in college.
Last year I got over $2,000 in assistance, but this year I did not even get to $1,000. Really need to count on some scholarships or I am in deep trouble!

It's the way the country works. If you theoretically make enough money to pay it all, then you have to work your ass off pay it all. If you can't pay it all, you don't have to pay nearly as much.

Know that feeling, according to the government we can afford £5,000 extra a year on top of repayable loans. But we literally have no disposable income after paying the mortgage, childcare and stuff like that. So I have a year to find some money or I probably won't go, despite being predicted grades which would get me practically anywhere
However, I am glad fees here aren't as high in America, but it still sucks. Education should be free to all, or at very least highly subsidised for students who achieve over a certain level of grades. But it won't happen here.

To make it worse I go to a private school. We aren't sure if my loan can go any higher, so if it can't, then I need scholarships, and if it can, I am going to broke when I graduate and pay them back.. Lottery please?

Hard to make education free to all in the US. Taxpayers wouldn't be happy about unequal allotment

Of course. That leads to a loss of personal liberties. But let's not delve too much into this in this thread. And I'm not a person that likes to spend time in Difficult Topics in my free time either.
So leave it be that I wish all the best luck to jdog!

Am I the only one around here who finds it incredibly amusing when people complain about loss of rights through this sort of stuff, while the Patriot Act still stands and isn't getting as much critisism?
On Uni topic: How good are you at languages? You could consider studying abroad, if your grades and the way your A-levels work allow it. In my part of Germany, they got rid of fees for public unis (=the only important ones) recently. Might be worth thinking about, if you can't afford English Unis.

I speak okayish French and German, but the problem is that if I went abroad I would get no student finance, so would still struggle as I'd have no loan. Also I want to do Politics, which means it makes sense to stay in the UK if possible. I have looked at the Dutch universities that teach in English though, but not in great depth.

Got my results today for AS Level - for the non-UK people it's the exams you do before you apply for university which kind of give universities an idea of if you'll meet their entry requirements next year. Got 3 A's and a B, which I'm delighted with seeing as I need 3 A's for the courses I've looked at. Now to start applying

In Groningen we have some studies in English, for example the one I'm going to do (InternationalRelations&InternationalOrganization), which consists of politics partially.
