Awesome Tour review and reports. Great Tour for Kreuizger and Brajkovic too. Well done
And again nice reviews and transfers updates. Some nice transfers by AI teams and nice transfer with Eiberger. Realistic and should be great support to your team.

A nice transfer for Cadel, should give GreenEdge a good chance at a Grand Tour victory

The team time trial shouldn't create too large gaps. But in this close competition, the seconds gained today can turn out to be very valuable. The course isn't very demanding.
Dominik's Pre-Race Comment
We have a horrible team for a TTT. Only three of us can ride at least an okay time trial, so our only goal for today is to limit the time we'll surely lose.
Start: | First team to start is the Polish Bank BGZ equipe. | . | Start: | One of the top teams, Astana, starts early as well. | . | | | Start: | Behind the Catalonian TV3 team, Liquigas will hit the road soon. In Nerz, Dall'Antonia and Marangoni, they have three riders who can do at least a little time trialing. Let's see how they do. | . | | | CP: | Astana has a good pace. They set the first nice time on checkpoint one. | | 8'32 | . | | | CP: | It didn't take long to be beaten though. Surprisingly, the Tabriz Petrochemical Team is 5 seconds faster. | | 8'27 | . | | | CP: | Christina Watches seem to feel fine on the course. Second best time on the checkpoint. | | 8'31 | . | CP: | Lampre does well: Three second behind Tabriz on the checkpoint. | . | | | CP: | Harsh dampener for Nerz's ambitions: + 39' on the checkpoint, worst time so far. | . | Finish: | Astana lost some time on the second half. They finish 3 seconds behind the leading Katusha team. As I thought, the gaps aren't big. | | 20'54 | . | | | Finish: | Overall favorite Domenico Pozzovivo and his team do a solid performance. 14 seconds down. | | 21'05 | . | Finish: | Tabriz also couldn't hold the speed of their first half. They fall back behind Colnago, provisional fourth. | | 21'08 | . | Finish: | Christina Watches finishes at the same time as Astana. Lampre is four more second behind. | | 20'54 | . | | | Finish: | Nerz leads his team over the line. They were able to limit their losses. 59 seconds. | | 21'50 | . | | | Finish: | The team of Riccardo Ricco, Vacansoleil, finishes sixth today, 10 seconds off. | | 21'01 |

We knew it would be hard and we knew we would lose time but this result is depressing. That was pretty bad. My only silver lining is that the two mountain stages should produce time gaps large enough to make up some time...
We might have a drink or two now to get over it. See you tomorrow,

Not good....but maybe on the flats the team will make better, very good chances to win a stage.

I seriously think TTT's need to be fixed in PCM 12.

Actually, it might be even realistic. I mean, my best three riders had TT 70, 68, 67. And it's not that TTTs in general go bad: For instance, I won the TTT at the Giro with good time trialists like Nibali, Brajkovic and Bodnar. So I don't blame PCM too much

I would rant on how much I hate TTT on PCM but it looks like everyone has already did it for me Nice work limiting your losses.

@ fcancellara: I have a tactic that sometimes works brilliantly and sometimes not at all. I haven't quite figured out when, that's my problem
@ sutty: Yeah, I think it was okay.
@ mresuperstar: Well as I said, I don't blame PCM in this case. But thanks for doing so, anyway, and thanks for your comment
@ brewers90: Wow, that's huge I'm glad that my story could intrigue you that much! And I really hope that your new story will go well, the beginning looks definetely very nice
Here's the second stage, a lot better than the first. Although that was pretty clear after all^^

July 21, 2012
The first hard mountain stage is coming: With 100 kms, it's pretty short but the two climbs are very tough. We should see a nice battle of the favorites.
Dominik's Pre-Race Comment
After the racing break, my shape isn't perfect but still decently good. I hope to end up in the Top 5, that would be nice.
Km 3: | The usual early attacks start. | . | | | Km 5: | Timothy Duggan is among the riders who try it. | . | Km 13: | 11 riders are in front but the pack keeps chasing. | . | Km 25: | Duggan is back in the pack and takes the lead. | . | Km 34: | Due to Duggan's pace, no break could stay in front. 3,5 kms to the top of the first mountain. | . | | | Km 37: | Dominik Nerz attacks and takes the mountain sprint in front of Marco Pinotti (Acqua) and Leonardo Piepoli (Pisanellastoria). | . | Km 55: | On the part between the mountains, another couple of riders try to form a breakaway. | . | | | Km 64: | Extremely surprising: Riccardo Ricco is among the escapees. What the heck is he planning? The pack of course increases the speed. | . | Km 77: | Duggan and Constantino Zaballa (Miche) bring the escapees back. | . | Km 85: | 15 kms from the top, Riccardo Ricco tries it again! | . | | | Km 89: | Astana and Liquigas make the pace and keep Ricco in a short distance. | . | Km 92: | 8 kms from the top, Ricco is back in the pack again. | . | | | Km 94: | Marco Pinotti sets the next attack. Among the followers is... Riccardo Ricco. | . | | | Km 96: | Agnoli and Nerz himself made the efforts to bring them back. Piepoli and Askari (Tabriz) try it again but won't succeed. | . | | | Km 98: | Now it's time for the fight for the win! Kiserlovski launched the first attack, immediatly followed by Pozzovivo, Nerz goes as well! | . | | | Km 99: | Pozzovivo tries to overtake Kiserlovski while Nerz has to fight behind them. Rovira (TV3) overtakes him and Brutt is coming with a nice speed as well... | . | | | Km 100: | Pozzovivo takes the win... | . | | | Km 100: | … and Nerz is closely outsprinted by Danilo Di Luca. The German finishes sixth but gets the same time as the 25 riders that follow. |
1 | Domenico Pozzovivo | Colnago – CSF Inox | 3h03'59 | 2 | Robert Kiserlovski | Pro Team Astana | s.t. | 3 | Jaume Rovira | TV3 – Caixa Catalunya | + 14 | 4 | Pavel Brutt | Katusha Team | s.t. | 5 | Danilo Di Luca | Lampre – ISD | + 21 | 6 | Dominik Nerz | Liquigas – Cannondale | s.t. | 7 | Michele Gaia | Miche – Guerciotti | s.t. | 8 | Vladimir Karpets | Tabriz Petrochemical Team | s.t. | 9 | Simon Spilak | Lampre – ISD | s.t. | 10 | Michael Rasmussen | Christina Watches – Onfone | s.t. |
I forgot to export so I can't give you the exact classifications as I'm already further in the game. Kiserlovski leads with 6 seconds to Pozzovivo and 34 seconds to Brutt. Nerz is about 30th, 1'32 behind Kiserlovski. He leads in the mountains ranking, though. Exact classification after the next stage, sorry.
Now that was better! I didn't time my last attack very well but still, I seem to be able to climb among the best here. Kiserlovski and Pozzovivo underlined their superiority while Riccò, well, he makes quite an insane impression. He still climbed to 18th place after all his attacks, though, so if he can pace himself, he might still be dangerous.
As a nice extra, I could gain the mountain jersey which I'll wear tomorrow. If I could keep that, it would be very nice. Once again, I have to thank my helpers, Timothy Duggan and Valerio Agnoli, for the work they did today!
Tommorow is a flat stage, so it should be a calm day for me.
Yours,
|

Glad to see Nerz competing with the other climbers. I remember when he struggled to even make it up the climbs back in the day.

Good stage, even though you couldn't follow Kiserlovski's attack.. but still a 6th place and some GC-climbing Stage 4 is the next chance for climbers, right?! I guess, we will see bigger gaps there and, of course, Dominik climbing well (in both stage and GC)!
