Dominik Nerz: The Next Level
laidbackmarc
Brajkovic 8th, well done but not good enough for a banana. Kreuziger's stage win and KOM wind is also great, but not good enough for a banana. Same thing with the reporting. All things together, your well-deserved award and the fact that it was a long time ago since I last leaved a comment here is worth a banana though Wink

Very nice recap of the tour, great read. Just wish the results matched that quality. Wink Good luck for future races.

+1 Nice top 10 for Brajko and even better KOM jersey and a stage-win for Kreuziger, only Ponzi disapponted me.
Btw. congrats for the award, you had my vote without any doubts Smile

I'll be back

Wow, thanks for the lots of nice comments! It's great to get so much feedback!

@ roturn: Well, I benefited from the fails of many top riders like Basso, Van den Broeck or Evans. Otherwise, the Top 10 would have been much harder.

@ dienblad: Thank you. I'm indeed happy with both results Smile

sutty68: It was the first time I went all in for a KoM in a Grand Tour so I'm happy that it worked. I also guess that a rider like Kreuziger concentrates totally on that, it's well possible.

@ fcancellara: Thanks, always nice to get a banana Wink

@ FreitasPCM: Nice that you liked the review. It's always quite a bit of work so it's good to hear that it's appreciated.

@ laidbackmarc: Well, as I know how rare your bananas are I can really worship it Wink Thanks for the kind words!

@ Mresuperstar: Actually, I'm quite happy about the results. I mean, I'm not Pellizotti2, with his skill I might have won the Tour with Brajko, but with my means, I think 8th+KoM+stage win is pretty much the best I could get.

@ baia & andy222c: Thanks for that Smile

@ Avin: Yeah, Ponzi was a real disappointment. It was the same all the time: He caught a good wheel within the last 15 kms but as soon as the sprint trains really increased the speed, his energy decreased rapidly and he was overtaken by a lot of riders... Oh, and thanks for your vote! I'm very happy about the award!

Hey guys!

That was a nice month so far for us. My second place in Austria, Kreuziger's and Brajkovic's performances in France – and it might even get better. I'll head off to Italy soon to ride the Brixia Tour. The starting list looks tough – but you'll see that in the preview.

First of all, I'd like to present you the first transfers our team made.

Riders Out:

Spoiler
i1221.photobucket.com/albums/dd464/cunego59/Misc/OutWurf.jpg

The first rider whose contract wasn't extended this year is Cameron Wurf. Although he had a decent year, winning the mountain classification of the Tour Down Under and achieving a Top 10 at a Giro stage, the team doesn't see the potential in Cameron to develop into a really helpful rider. After two years he will leave us. For the next season, he doesn't have a contract yet.

Spoiler
i1221.photobucket.com/albums/dd464/cunego59/Misc/OurDuggan.jpg

Last year, his contract was prolonged mostly due to our American co-sponsor Cannondale. With the sponsors changing, this couldn't help Timothy Duggan any longer. After two unsuccessful years, he will return to Garmin, where he signed a one-year contract. His season isn't over though: Duggan will participate in several autumn classics.

Rider In:

As you all know, our new main sponsor next year will be UniCredit. Next to Italy, their targeted countries are Austria and Germany. Our first new signing accounts for that:

Spoiler
i1221.photobucket.com/albums/dd464/cunego59/Misc/InEibegger.jpg

In Markus Eibegger, the team signs one of the strongest Austrian cyclists. He will support the already strong puncheur fraction and will both be a good helper as well as a strong weapon as a free element. He spent his last two years with the Iranian Tabriz team – his best results were a fourth overall of the Tour de Slovenie in 2011 and a 13th spot at the Strade Bianche 2012 – and now returns to Europe.

So that's our first transfer. I like to have another German-speaking guy in the team. And with our new sponsor, I'm sure he won't be the only one.

That's it from me for the moment. I'll now concentrate on the Brixia Tour. See you,

Shame to see wurfy leave, but Eibegger is a real nice rider. I can't wait to see Unicredit in 2013!

roturn
I like to see you keep the transfers realistic to the sponsors.
Eibegger is a nice addition although I am a bit afraid of his low plain stat.

sutty68
Eibegger looks like a good investment for the team Wink

I always contract Eibegger in my careers with Red Bull based teams. He is great support in the hills and mountains!

Quite a good signing, and realistic too. Eibegger should give a good support for your leaders. Wink

Thank you all. I'm glad you like Eibegger, I have a good feeling about him. He should be able to do very well in some races.

@ Teddy: Sorry for you that the only Aussie had to leave, but you will probably agree that he wasn't too valuable for our team. Also... No, I won't say anything more yet Wink

@ roturn: His flat skill might really be a problem. But it was no reason not to take him at all. Especially as it was either him or Thomas Rohregger, whose flat is only 2 points higher...

@ baia: The next two new signings (including one German, I think I can tell you that) are coming not before the Brixia Tour. Instead, here's some other transfer news...

+++ First big transfers announced +++ Astana in trouble +++

As of July 1st, the teams tout for new, strong signings for the next season. And the transfer carroussel is in full play:

The Tour de France had quite some influence on the negociations. Australian Cadel Evans was obviously unsatisfied with the way his team supported him and took the consequences. He leaves BMC after two rather unsuccessful years and heads towards his home country:

i1221.photobucket.com/albums/dd464/cunego59/Flags/au.gif Cadel Evans – From BMC to GreenEdge

Although BMC is in big danger to be relegated to Continental Division, they managed to sign a nice substitution for Evans, another rider who disappointed a lot during the Tour: Italian Ivan Basso leaves Katusha after only one year.

i1221.photobucket.com/albums/dd464/cunego59/Flags/it.gif Ivan Basso – From Katusha to BMC

Katusha reacts with a rather surprising move. Joining Filippo Pozzato for the Flanders classics is Sylvain Chavanel, this year's third at both Paris – Roubaix and Ronde Van Vlaanderen. With those results on his side, he'll probably claim the leading role in the Russian team.

i1221.photobucket.com/albums/dd464/cunego59/Flags/fr.gif Sylvain Chavanel – From Leopard to Katusha

An equally strong substitution was impossible to find for Leopard. But they searched all over the transfer market and found: Johan Vansummeren. The Belgian leaves the American Garmin – Cervelo team to become Cancellara's main support.

i1221.photobucket.com/albums/dd464/cunego59/Flags/be.gif Johan Vansummeren – From Garmin to Leopard

upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/a7/Tour_de_Romandie_2011_-_Prologue_-_Cadel_Evans.jpg/220px-Tour_de_Romandie_2011_-_Prologue_-_Cadel_Evans.jpg

At BMC, Cadel Evans was never able to show real top class performances. He hopes for that to change with his compatriots at GreenEdge.

In contrary to the teams above, who all managed to replace their leaving stars, the Kazakh team Astana has a horrible transfer period so far. As of today, they haven't made a single new signing, but some key personnel is leaving. Most important loss is old star Alexandre Vinokourov. He stated that he wanted a change of environment on his old days and surprised the public with a one year contract at AG2R in the continental division.

i1221.photobucket.com/albums/dd464/cunego59/Flags/kz.gif Alexandre Vinokourov – From Astana to AG2R

Vino isn't the only strong rider to leave. Robert Kiserlovski, the team's strongest climber, evidentally doesn't see much future for himself in the team. As well as Vinokourov, he goes down to continental division and joins José Rujano at Androni Giocattoli to form a strong climbing duo.

i1221.photobucket.com/albums/dd464/cunego59/Flags/hr.gif Robert Kiserlovski – From Astana to Androni

And as if that all wouldn't have been enough, the climber squad loses another member in Haimar Zubeldia. With his 35 years, his best days are behind him, nevertheless in a situation like this, the Basque could have been an important addition to Astana's team. Now, he leaves towards Euskaltel.

Alexandre Vinokourov was the key figure of Astana. Now he's leaving the team.

Vino back to AG2R Pfft

The German is either, Andreas Stauff, or that puncheur guy, I cant think of.
