La Tropicale Amissa Bongo stage 6

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tropicale/Tropicale%20stage%206_zpsdvl4gwou.jpg

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tropicale/stage%206/Gabon%20stage%206%20p1_zps1xk0jd3b.jpg

The riders are about to start stage 6 in Gabon. The stage is 146 km long with a few hills, but they should not bring any problems for the sprinters. There is not much wind at the moment, but the weather in Gabon has been very unpredictable this week.

145 km to go

Orbe (Euskaltel) attacks right from the start. Too many riders follow him though and Sky brings them all back. Another group goes onto the attack, but it looks like the peloton wants to reel them back in too.

120 km to go

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tropicale/stage%206/Gabon%20stage%206%20p2_zpsfxhwwfut.jpg

The front group has reached the first KoM sprint and it is Zordan (Androni) who comes through first. The other riders in this group are Boev (RusVelo), Lutsenko (Astana), Gutierrez (Colombia), Madrazo (Caja Rural) and Murphy (UnitedHealthcare). The peloton has given up the chase and they are now 2 minutes behind.

KoM 1:
1. Zordan (Androni) - 5 points
2. Boev (RusVelo) - 3 points
3. Lutsenko (Astana) - 1 point

115 km to go

The breakaway passes the first intermediate sprint. They go through in the same order as the KoM sprint. The peloton now follows at almost 3 minutes.

Sprint 1:
1. Zordan (Androni) - 6 points
2. Boev (RusVelo) - 4 points
3. Lutsenko (Astana) - 2 points

75 km to go

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tropicale/stage%206/Gabon%20stage%206%20p3_zpsxyknxwci.jpg

At the 2nd intermediate sprint it is Boev who passes the line first. After reaching a maximum lead of 4 and a half minute, the peloton has woken up and CCC, NetApp, Movistar and Sky are all participating in the chase.

Sprint 2:
1. Boev (RusVelo) - 6 points
2. Madrazo (Caja Rural) - 4 points
3. Zordan (Androni) - 2 points

65 km to go

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tropicale/stage%206/Gabon%20stage%206%20p4_zps385oifmj.jpg

Zordan also wins the 2nd KoM sprint. Boev comes through in 3rd place, which means he now leads the mountain classification by 1 point. Murphy has lost contact with the front group and will soon be caught by the peloton, which is 4 minutes behind.

KoM 2:
1. Zordan (Androni) - 5 points
2. Madrazo (Caja Rural) - 3 points
3. Boev (RusVelo) - 1 point

55 km to go

Lutsenko wins the last intermediate sprint, in front of Gutierrez and Zordan. The peloton has caught Murphy and the gap to the breakaway has come down to 3 and a half minute.

Sprint 3:
1. Lutsenko (Astana) - 6 points
2. Gutierrez (Colombia) - 4 points
3. Zordan (Androni) - 2 points

30 km to go

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tropicale/stage%206/Gabon%20stage%206%20p5_zpsp1vt34cq.jpg

Movistar has come to the front of the peloton with Flecha, Kusnezov and Lobato and the pace has gone way up. The front group is only 1 and a half minute ahead.

15 km to go

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tropicale/stage%206/Gabon%20stage%206%20p6_zpsyb16cdqp.jpg

Apparently the riders in the breakaway have some energy left. The peloton does not come closer, so it might be another breakaway victory today. Several other teams have joined the chase now.

10 km to go

The gap is still over a minute and even Augustyn is chasing the front group now for Abundi.

7 km to go

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tropicale/stage%206/Gabon%20stage%206%20p7_zpsbz0fo3x9.jpg

Puccio is trying to close the gap solo. With the front group a minute ahead, this might be the only solution here.

5 km to go

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tropicale/stage%206/Gabon%20stage%206%20p8_zpstmuc0eup.jpg

Zordan attacks from the front group. As with every breakaway victory so far, a late attack proves to be the right choice.

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tropicale/stage%206/Gabon%20stage%206%20p9_zpsuoxbbllw.jpg

Tennant has crashed in the peloton and takes down Bonilla with him. AG2R won't be happy to see their sprinter on the ground.

2 km to go

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tropicale/stage%206/Gabon%20stage%206%20p10_zpsydobcrhx.jpg

Zordan has a 20 second lead over his former escapees. Puccio is a minute behind Zordan, while the peloton follows at 1 and a half minute.

Finish

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tropicale/stage%206/Gabon%20stage%206%20p11_zpsrgwarlfl.jpg

Zordan is today's winner. Once again the breakaway is successful. The other escapees follow a bit later, with Madrazo getting 2nd. Boev completes the podium.

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag59/CEriksie/Pcmdaily%20EPIC/Tropicale/stage%206/Gabon%20stage%206%20p12_zps4wlawlqb.jpg

Puccio gets caught in the last meters, but still gets 9th place. Roelandts wins the bunch sprint, in front of Martinez Machado and Calzone.

Those breakaways Shock

And poor Lotto, they have a stage win goal here, but never manage to catch the break while Roelandts wins the sprints Pfft

Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Weird attack from Puccio, but then again you gotta credit him for doing that Grin Khan can't compete without a leadout train and I think mvh's pcm game has decided that no breakaway shall be diminished by the pack xD

Also poor Marco for winning the sprints, but not the stages Grin

Ah ffs, that was the perfect sprinter stage and still a breakaway won.

Hägg remains comfortable in lead. Only one more stage. Smile

Hägg and Rudy both defending their GC positions is good enough for this one.

Yeah, was a bit odd to see Hofland finishing in front of Riquekme and Khan. It's like they just ride over the finish in the sprint train Pfft

Rudy getting unlucky with 11th, but he's picking up the GC points Euskaltel needs Wink

Yes, sorry about the AI. I was so happy to see Movistar close most of the gap, and then started screaming at the peloton to go faster when they didn't get any closer. Pfft

If stage 7 is a breakaway win again, expect a very short report. Smile

Smowz
Par for the course with a hilly stage race to see breakaways take a lot of stages. Breakaway dominating GC as well, so a bit of a waste for some Protour teams here.

Decent thoughts from our team, chasing yesterday realising not enough power on pack so get in break today. I have tried to build a solid team all round so that when in breaks chances are there Madrazo narrowly missing the stage win, but second is nice too with RMM in points. Still hopeful he can jump a few GC places, has shown great sprinting legs here in thus tour.

Great first stage win for young Zordan! Good bonus for us here.
Cerveto holding onyo 4th in the GC is good but would be nice to see him attack.

Meanwhile Ricardo Martinez Machado with another good performance. Now 6th in GC and first in points which isn't too bad.

Got Some Good News and Bad New Guys:

Bad News: The PCM14 Database in Atlantius's post is the Season 1 Part 3 one for me, so I can't play it until this is fixed. Frown

Good News: This means I can write up a really quick preview while that happens. Smile It won't be anything that special though.

What is the file name? That post have never had a link to the Season 1 Part 3 DB in it so it sounds very weird...

Anyway here's the link again: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ppgieybi3r0...4.cdb?dl=0

Ok, thanks, almost done the preview so I'll test it out once finished.

Just for people to note, I'm going to do a analysis of stages, but I won't post profiles until after the first stage.

Turns out a couldn't use the computer I needed for about 10-20 mins, So I'm writing a quick preview, it'll be a bit rushed and it might mean I won't be able to submit the race report today (hopefully I can) and please don't get annoyed with me for mistakes. I'll edit in the profiles of each stage when I can use the right computer, probably just before I post the first race report.

Stages:

Will be added after stage 1, Sorry.

Teams:

AG2r La Mondale:

GC Leader: Carlos Bentancur
Sprinter: Yauheni Hutarovich
EPiC Riders: None

Predictions: A strong GC Leader who could win the race and a reasonable sprinter, GC win definitely not out of the question.

Bardiani:

GC Leader: None
Sprinter: Sacha Modolo / Everybody
EPIC Riders: None

Predictions: They'll sprint on a flat stage, and that's about it.

Belkin:

GC Leader: Wilco Kelderman
Sprinter: Theo Bos
EPIC Riders: None

Predictions: Kelderman could sneak a top 5, maybe even get onto the podium, while Bos could have a shot at a stage victory.

BMC:

GC Leader: Tejay Van Garderen
Sprinter: None
EPIC Riders: None

Predictions: Van Garderen looks strong and could easily steal the show, he has plently of support, but it could still come down to the wire, unfortunately, if anything goes wrong, the team won't have much of a back-up option.

Cannondale:

GC Leader: Peter Sagan / Josh Burton
Sprinter: Peter Sagan
EPIC Riders: Josh Burton

Predictions: Like most of the season, the team's only real hope is breakaways and Peter Sagan, even so, with Sagan they'll likely take flat and hilly stages and the points jersey.

Caja Rural:

GC Leader: José Alarcon
Sprinter: None
EPIC Riders: José Alarcon, Jaun Pablo Asquez

Predictions: Lot's of climbers, so Alarcon could take a top 5, or slip onto the podium if he's really lucky. The team could win the mountains classification

CCC Polsat:

GC Leader: Johann Novakason
Sprinter: None
EPIC Riders: Johann Novakason

Predictions: Novakason could take a top 10, apart from that breakaways are the only option.

Champion System:

GC Leader: Janier Acevedo
Sprinters; Fabian Schnaidt / Manuel Belleti
EPIC Riders: None

Predictions: A top ten GC or a top ten in a sprint unless something comes from a breakaway.

Colombia:

GC Leader: Christian Muriel
Sprinter: None
EPIC Riders: Fabrizio Harrini, Gorka Nieve

Predictions: A breakaway is the only real chance. Muriel would be lucky for a top ten.

Drapac:

GC Leader: Rory Sutherland
Sprinter: None
EPIC Riders: Tomohori Hatanaka

Predictions: Breakaways...

Giant - Shimano:

GC Leader: Tanel Kangert
Sprinter: Tom Veelers
EPIC Riders: None

Predictions: A podium isn't out of the question for this team, with both Kangert and De la Montagne definite competitors there, but they seem much more likely for a top 5, aside from that. Veelers could contest a sprint.

Lampre - Meridia:

GC Leader: None
Sprinter: None
EPIC Riders: None

Predictions:The organisers rufuse to comment, enfuriated that Lampre did not only refuse to send their Argentinian rider, they also failed to field a single good rider. Breakaways are the only chance.

MTN - Qhubeka

Leader: Josef Hintermüller
Sprinter: Gerald Ciolek
EPIC Riders: Marouane Shaqif

Predictions: A strong team, Ciolek will be a challenger for the green jersey, while Hintermüller will challenge for a top ten. Gerdemann could take a stage win from a break and will be a very useful domestique to both riders.

NetApp - Endura

Leader: Domonik Nerz
Sprinter: None
EPIC Riders: Ioannis Dimitriou

Predictions: Nerz can challenge for a top ten, apart from that breakaways will be the main chance for the team, but that seems to have worked pretty well for them so far...

Orica - Greenedge:

GC Leader: Diego Johnson
Sprinter: David Cimolai
EPIC Riders: Diego Johnson

Predictions: Johnsson can challenge for a spot on the GC podium, but a top 5 or 10 seems more likely, otherwise, Cimolai will be another challenger in sprints.

Team Sky:

GC Leader: Sergio Henao
Sprinter: Ben Swift
EPIC Riders: None

Predictions: Sky have sent two riders with wish they want to dominate the race, Henao could win the race and a podium is almost certain, while Swift looks like one of Sagan's biggest competitors in the sprints.

Trek Factory Racing:

GC Leader: Maxime Monfort / Chris Horner
Sprinter: None
EPIC Riders: None

Predictions: Plenty of support for the rider they choose to lead, but they can't be expected to top anything, a top 5 if they are lucky, probably a top ten.

AI CONTROLLED TEAMS:

Rusvelo: Better than Lampre, but Breakaways are the only real chance.

Novo Nordisk: Breakaways, if there is a chance even from that.

United Health Care: Have sent a semi-competitive squad, but breakaway are still the only real chance.

Predicted Results:

General Classification:

1st. Tejay Van Garderren
2nd. Carlos Bentancur
3rd. Sergio Henao
4th. José Alarcon
5th. Tanel Kangert

Points Classification:

1st. Peter Sagan
2nd. Gerald Ciolek
3rd. Ben Swift

Mountains Classification

1st. David Arroyo
2nd. Carlos Bentancur
3rd. Tejay van Garderen

Youth Classification:

That's normal, they are obviously not the top riders in the team.

Attempting to do the race now, but I probably won't finish (more likely I'll finish but won't be able to do the report). But I'll try, otherwise the race will come in the morning. At least you got a preview. Wink
