At the start I was rather unsure what to do. I didn't fancy myself in a final sprint, so I tried for a breakaway.


I hopped out of the bunch and went in persuit of Roberts (AUS).


But the peloton didn't like it and brought us back, so I hopped onto the back of the relay line. I avoided taking pulls by dropping back as soon as I got close to the front, although this did cause me to lose touch a few times and spend some energy. Still getting used to this


I was up front at the sprint, but I was also quite tired. Dead with 150m to go eventually after having some trouble with recovery. The Frenchies made a small gap while the breakaway had a decent chance.


And the win went to Nimke (GER) of the break.


I tried to stay on wheels and ended 14th.



A sobering effort for my first time out. Now I'm off to Frankfurt for my next event, but before then the winners of the Velo d'Or and Rising Star awards will be announced. See you soon,

After my first experince on the track, I was considering quitting, but maybe Scratch just isn't my thing. Maybe my race intelligence will pay off in a sprint race, and the rest of the omnium event


I started off at the front, and made my intentions clear.


For the first sprint I tried going around the outside, but I was a bit surprised at the early pace and ended up 5th; out of the points.


For the next sprint I tried going early.


And I managed to hang on for 2nd. Things were looking up.


This seemed to work, so I tried the same tactic for the 3rd sprint.


And I took the win. I was in the overall lead now!


Then for number 4 I was left behind and obviously got no points again.


I went really early for the 5th one.


And I finished 3rd. The official gap between 3rd and 7th was just 9mm though!


Sprint number 6. More points. I led into the last 300 metres.


I stayed at the front, but I just didn't have enough power in my legs compared to these experienced track sprinters.


But I came around the outside and managed to win. This put me in a good lead for the rest of the competition.

Back to the Scratch. I'll be un-optimistic and aim for a Top 10.


There was a very scattered sprint. I was tired due due to the same reason as in Bogota.


But I managed to hang on for 7th, which puts me in 2nd overall by just 1 point to the Scratch winner Bergemann (GER).

I had several hundred metres to get into the groove of things before an all out 200 metre sprint. My road skills should help me take a great result.


But my recent introduction to the track meant I was unfamiliar with the proper time-trial technique.


When I crossed I wasn't sure how I went, but I was pretty confident.


But confidence counts for nothing, and I finished last with a time of 11.251 seconds with some energy left, putting me into 5th overall. Now it's impossible for me to win, but I can still get a podium.

My tactic for the first few rounds was to stay at the back and pop out the outside in the last hundred or so metres. This worked quite well for me.


Don't be a bitch. I tried to block Nimke (GER), but he managed to go around, and I finished way back.


Eventually Bauge won, while I slipped to 6th place overall. Next up I'll be going to the Bulgarian capital of Sofia, for a Keirin and maybe a Sprint Competition.
