Very cool lineup! Sending Saber is bold, but could really pay off. There have been some dominating sprinter's performances in ToA history, and one from Saber could be huge for your promotion push. Multiple stage wins and green are very possible, as I doubt many are sending as high quality a sprinter as Saber there. I know I'm not. Of course, it's definitely risky though with how fickle sprints can be.
Personally, I'm happy to see you're not bringing a true GC guy. Although with how well Pogocar has raced, he has to be a dark horse for white.
RIP Exxon Duke, David Veilleux, Double Feature, and Monster Energy

Yes, spending 21 RDs sending Saber to ToA is a risk. I think he should be the #1 sprinter at the race, which is the complete opposite of every other race. So I'm putting a lot of faith in my lead out riders.
I definitely struggled with the idea of sending Alarcon, but in the end he's had a good season anyway, so I don't think I made a big mistake. Pogacar for sure won't win white, but he might be 2nd there. In any case I hope he goes for breakaways.

Second bbl in thinking that it's an interesting line up for sure with certain riders filling niches which might be empty. Hope Saber can score big on the flats and think Pogacar is a fair shout for the U25s. Gilanippor and Zordan should be decebt breakaway contenders as well.

A race (partly) on home soil, this has to give a boost to the squad. Curious to see how Beltran will cope with the expectations

It's Saber, you know the story

I hope so. I certainly consider this a home race ahead of a certain french named race. I'd take a repeat of what Beltran did the last two years here, but it's daunting going up against PT teams.

I wouldn't go as far as saying it's ideal. It's pretty good, but the competition is always top notch. Hopefully he does well enough to hit the sponsor goal

Benelux Challenge | Race Report Race Date | Race Category | Race Goals | 01.08 - 06.08 | 2.HC | 2x Top 50 GC; Top 3 Stage/KOM |
Cedevita didn't make a good start to the race with both Izidor Penko and Matic Groselj not doing well in the opening prologue. No breakaway appearance on stage 2 which went to the sprinters. Matija Mestric entered the breakaway in stage 3. He had a good ride and managed to finish in one of the bigger groups with some favourites. Him and Miha Poljanec were the only Cedevita riders in the top 50. Stage 4 was labeled as the harder of the two cobbled stages, but it didn't work out that way. It was a quiet stage, Matija and Miha both finished in the main group.
Stage 5 was the hilly one and with David Gaudu and Olivier Le Gac far behind in GC, both got into the breakaway. Le Gac supported his compatriot as Gaudu collected many KOM. Enough in fact to win that classification. Gaudu continued solo as the last survivor from the original breakaway in search of a stage win to boot. He finished 2nd in the end. The final stage was a sprint stage where Cedevita riders missed the split and lost some GC place. Still the race was a big success due to Gaudu's highlight of winning the King of the Mountains, the first in the team's history!

Update #5 covers a total of 8 Cedevita races through July and August. We drop down from 6th to 10th in the ranking with some of the period's races not best suited to our riders. Here is how it went.
We had great success last year in Torshavn with a late attack last year, but barely featured this time. Vineyards was an up and down, mostly down race. Abolfazl Gilanipoor saved us with his best race of the season, while Jose Alarcon barely made the top 50. Lithuania was the big race of the month. The sponsor goal was a top 5 place and Eddy Beltran did that by finishing 4th, but it was a worse result than the two previous years. Betonexpressz was another missed opportunity as we can't seem to make our mark on flat classics. But Alarcon finished the month on a high note with 5th place in the mountains of Andorra.
August has us start in Benelux, a race with little expectations, but we came away with a good return mostly thanks to David Gaudu winning the KOM classification. Sakartvelo was a nice race for us last year, but Gilanipoor wasn't at his best and finished outside the top 10. The one chance to make a big impact this month was the Clasica San Sebastian. Beltran was on his best form on the hard Basque climbs as he finished 4th in a group of elite puncheurs.
Given the races remaining the team's ppRD looks great, but we know that's a misleading number. However finishing in the top 15 of the ranking which is our goal is well within our capabilities. That's what we have to strive for in the last part of the season.

Balkans International | Race Report Race Date | Race Category | Race Goals | 05.09 - 12.09 | 2.PTHC | Top 10 GC; 2x Top 3 Stage |
Balkans! A race Cedevita can't " escape" from, neither would they want to. It's always an important race for the team and its sponsors.
Stage 1 which often went to the breakaway actually ended in a reduced sprint this time. Eduard Beltran didn't sprint, but made sure he was comfortably in the main group, thanks to some great work by Miha Poljanec. Cedevita were without a sprinter so not involved in stage 2. The fireworks came on stage 3. The favourites started attacking each other on the penultimate climb. A reduced group came to the top of that climb and there is where Miguel Angel Lopez and Beltran attacked over the top. Beltran was the more aggressive rider as he gapped Lopez on the small downhill, going solo onto the final uphill. From there the Colombian accelerated again, no one was catching him. He won his first stage at Balkans International and took the GC lead!
Eduard Beltran dancing on the pedals on his way to winning stage 3
Stage 4 was a long undulating stage that Cedevita and others were happy enough to give to the breakaway. In stage 5 the breakaway was caught before the final hill in Dubrovnik. Beltran responded to an early attack from Sagan, but he ended up paying for that effort as he couldn't keep up with the favourites. He had to drop back to limit his losses as Lopez won the stage and took over the GC. Beltran dropped down to 4th, 21'' behind. Stage 6 was an easier stage with some small bumps near the end. Beltran tried to surprise with another attack on a downhill, but was caught about 1 km from the finish and finished 13th on the stage.
Eduard Beltran going for a stage win, but was caught under the flamme rouge
Stage 7 was a flat stage won from the breakaway last year by Poljanec. Cedevita kept their rider back this time and the stage ended in a sprint finish. The final stage is the longest and hardest of the race. A strong breakaway looked good for a while, but they didn't stand a chance with attacks from the peloton already starting at around 20 km from the finish. Beltran was active from the off, first following a move by Padun. Beltran also tried to attack with Formolo, then Lutsenko tried, but all these attacks were brought back. Padun attacked again, but only succeeded in catching the final breakaway riders. Things calmed down until Lopez attacked for good with 600 m left, Beltran in his wheel. It became clear these two were the strongest and would battle it out for the stage win. Lopez had a small edge and kept that edge until the finish to win the stage. Beltran was 2nd and still with a 10'' gap to Buchmann and Kwiatkowski. That along with the bonus seconds propelled Beltran to finish 2nd in the GC behind Lopez. A tremendous race with two stage podiums and 2nd place overall!
