Chinese Translations for Country Names
Spoiler
It is quite inconsistent at times. Just to provide one example, Belgium and Italy both contain one character which is the same. However they opted to use the way it sounds in Chinese.
So Belgium could've been translated as "Comparatively Profitable Hour" using that logic. But obviously everyone likes to hear "Billytime"

What have they done to the twitter iphone app ? It's totally unreadable now, mixing tweets from accounts followed by people you follow (not favoured or re-twitted).

Thanks for mentioning that. You reminded me that I passed a milestone.

I refuse to use AdBlock w. They say they want to make the internet better by getting rid of advertisements. How did they say this? By making an advertisement. I realize this site couldn't run without ads. I support my favorite sites. I just don't like the placement of this one. It's bigger than the reply box itself. if you're going to have an ad there, at least make it one of the horizontal shaped ones.

They also make the internet better by getting rid of tracking and malware. Also, it's called filters. Just because you install AdBlock doesn't mean you can't allow ads to run on a certain site. Just block the annoying ones.
Not to criticize, but to give an example: Your city siege videos. Now, if you had used AdBlock, wouldn't that be less of a nuisance?
I've always wondered/wanted to ask something though: Do ads generate revenue based on number of views or clicks? Or both? Or only purchases that are referred to from the ad?? Would there be more money generated if I clicked on ads for no apparent reason? I've always wanted to know.

The site does need some better ad placement. The side ones are ok, but the ones on top don't even fit, and these bottom ones are incredibly irritatingly placed/shaped.

It's usually based on clicks. Views can generate a little bit, but it's a very, very small drop in the ocean.

Yeah, I get them too and they are too BIG and too close to the reply button
In general, I'd say this site has much, much less intrusive/annoying ads than most other sites do. Instead of a PCM.daily banner, there could be a huge ad instead. Or one could keep the PCM.daily banner and place a giant ad above or below it. However, I don't like ads, I don't want them to be too annoying, and to be fairly honest, I don't see any problem whatsoever with the new ads.
The one on the top of the frontpage? Naturally, the 'buy PCM' ad is rarely used at this time of the year, so I thought I might as well rotate it with another ad. Now, Google offers some various ad sizes, and the one you see now is the only one that can fit in that box. They did recently launch an ad where you can customize the size - this is what I tried, but as with some of Google's betas, it's not really working
About the one on the bottom - guys, it's at the bottom of the page. I could understand the frustration if it was placed above the quick reply box... As it is now, it shouldn't influence you in anyway except that there's something to look at when you hit the Quick Reply button.
That being said - as you know, I'm always willing to listen. Give it a chance and get back to me with a thought-out evaluation. I'm doing the same, and obviously, if the new ads don't make an impact, they will be removed again.
I think the ads are more than fine on this site. Like you say, there are much worse sites.
And thanks to ever-watching google, I even got some interesting ones every now and then.
The big one below the quick-reply button seems to have vanished, though?
It's still there under the quick reply button for me, which I'm bound to hit a lot on my iPod, could you put it under the similar threads box so it's right at the bottom of the page?
