I got my first grad school response today. Good news is I got in. Bad news is that it's really expensive. My friend valued it at one liver, part of a kidney and a square foot of skin, per year. -.-

I'm considering replacing my old mobile phone (8 years old) for a newer, better and more modern smart phone. I've been looking at something along the lines of Samsungs S3 or S4.
My only problem is that todays phones seem awefully big. I mean, isn't it a problem sitting down, or moving in general, with a phone like the S4 in your front pocket?
In my opinion, Samsung is hugely overrated when it comes to phones. It's really beyond my comprehension how they manage to sell so many bug-filled phones with functions that hardly ever work.
In terms of size, I don't understand the huge screen-fascination either. And it does seem that at least some companies like HTC and Sony have realized that there's a market for normally sized, yet powerful phones. Until recently, Apple has pretty much had this segment for themselves (again, beyond my comprehension).
If you're not into Apple / iPhones, have a look at the recently released Sony Xperia Z1 Compact which is a basically Sony's flagship phone, but in a normal size. Have received plenty of great reviews too.
There's also the HTC One Mini which unfortunately isn't as stylish and perhaps a little less powerful than the 'top' version - but it should be relatively cheap at this point and still a great phone.
Or, as someone mentioned, have look at Nokia's Windows Phone-variants.

Windows Phone is ok, but warning; there just isn't the availability of apps for it yet. Cycling related there is no Strava and some of the bigger apps on IOS and Android are yet to port over.
As an OS it's great though! Functional, user friendly and (handset depending) cheaper

There are quite a number of people who just buy Samsung because "it's not Apple".

I realise that, but there's plenty of phones that are not made by Apple, and which - in my opinion - are a lot better than Samsung's.

Of course, but because those are the two mega-mobile phone companies, everyone goes there, regardless of the quality.
@TMM: If you look, there are apps that will record data for STRAVA uploading. Just search around a bit.

Spoiler I have a problem with my wi-fi. On my laptop, I can't seem to connect conistently to it. I have excellent signal but every two or three minutes it disconnects and reconnects. I scanned for viruses and there were none. Content is loading in a different way than usual...the page loads abnormally fast and flash content extremely slow. Has anyone else experienced this before?
Just a declaratory post to state that I have solved the problem.
Apparently there is some sort of bug(not sure if that's the right word) involving TCP autotuning on Windows Vista and 7 based systems....or is it just me If there is, then I will know that's what fixed it...but it might well have been a different tweaked setting.

Both Apple and Samsung are overpriced. Sony Xperia is the way to go!
