How often do you charge it, then?

The battery usually lasts a day for me (around 10-15% batter left). I simply plug it in right before bed and its ready for another days use in the morning and so on. It becomes a routine and its right next to my bed so I never forget and its hardly a hassle.

That said, if you are only going to buy a phone for texting and calling, the S4 maybe isn't the best option for you, considering its a top of the line smart phone, which is pretty much a mini tablet so its going to cost a lot more than your basic touch screen phone.

I pretty much only texted and called on my previous phone before getting an S3 and it has changed how I use a phone. Now I play games, surf the web, use social media, skype, and everything like that on a daily basis from my phone.

Every two to three days, more often if I, for example, play with it for a few hours on a train ride or something. But if you do it like valv and just charge it in the evening, it easily lasts the next day, no matter what you're doing

Yeah. The percentage telling you the amount of battery left is a really great feature! My old phone just had 3 bars so it actually died on me, when I needed to use it, whereas the S3 I know exactly how much I have left, a good idea of how fast it will "naturally" go down, how much quicker it will go down if I connect to wifi or if I play a game for a while. I've never had it die on me while I was out, so I'd say thats good since I've had it almost 9 months now.

I turn the brightness down to the lowest and I've got to say you really get used to it.

Well, chances are I'd use for a bit more than just texting and calling. I'd probably use it for some social media-related things aswell.

I guess I can go along with charging it everyother day, or so. Like I said, it's annoying having to charge my current phone twice a week, but that's just because I'm so used to it lasting a week even with somewhat heavy use.

I have an S4, I would definitely buy it it's great!

I have my S2 for about 2 years now and i am not planning to replace it with any new generation soon (until S5 comes out). Size is perfect (i have normal hand , 4.3inch) and just as valv & cunego are doing, i am charging it every night, but honestly i am using it alot. For texting , for browsing internet , social medias , some HD games etc. , so it would probably last at least 2 days to you (f.e. my mom just switched from an old-fashioned phone to some new mid-range Sony Xperia and is strictly using it for SMS and Calls and battery can even last 4-5 days sometimes).

I know it's somehow "old" now, since it's released in 2011 (and there's phone-changing trend each 6 months now) , but it's way cheaper than other phones and could do pretty much same things, with more practical screensize and nice battery power...

But of course, if you have a bit bigger budget, getting S3 or even S4 won't hurt. My next phone will definitely be S4, after S5 gets released and price gets a bit lower. Xperia Z1 is about same price as S4, but it's way better optimized with 20MP camera + it's waterproof <- Worth checking, definitely.

Or you could get a messenger phone in 2009 and just not get a new phone, like me.

I got a Nokia Lumia 820. Older model, but I can play Halo for 13 straight hours and still have 88% battery life. I haven't charged mine in 6 days. Mind you also, it has everything turned on as well, and the brightness is on high.

I think S4 is too high category for normal usage of the phone, i would rather buy a tablet than this phone.

I will buy this XperiaL baby next month, not so much expensive and still very good smart phone to have.

Well, you could probably easily find it if you wanted too. I haven't been too cautious in hiding my personal info. I was at first but, I've been here too long and I trust (most) of the people here so it's been leaked out over time.
