Note:
a) I did not want to put this in Difficult Topics, because I have nothing more to say pertinent to that thread.
b) I am not putting this in suggestions. This is not a suggestion, as I have no right or experience to justify any change. This is a mere observation.
c) I am not deliberately trying to single out or antagonize anyone here.
----
What I've noticed the past weeks/months or so is an increase in the moderation of the forums from admins. Certainly there is some heat at the moment over in the other thread, and no one will doubt that some lines were crossed, and sometimes they need to be dealt with. I'm seeing a lot of non-to the point things though (f.e. Singling out Admir for his comments and ignoring the responses, which could be argued were on a equally personal level).
I'm really not trying to pick a side here, but the Admir ava/sig ordeal is a good example. Although we are living in an increasingly hypersensitive society, there are a few things to note though:
1. Admir and acac are living a lot of kms away from each other, it's a situation that wouldn't be as serious as it would be in real life.
2. If you're mature enough to be on a forum such as this, you really ought to be mentally stable enough to continue a discussion independently. I'm still a believer that sooner or later the discussion can end without intervention.
3. I am seeing an admin remove Admir's (and other users too) ava and sig and Admir is deliberately putting it back. In my opinion, this is really a pointless "war" to fight, if I can use that term.
a. Is this really mature to keep doing this N times until you ban or do something to Admir?
b. I think people should be allowed to post sensitive topics in signatures and avatars. I saw the "free palestine" one long before the discussion actually got heated. I think it's not safe to assume it's to deliberately provoke another user. So long as it's not obtrusive to site formatting and not personal, I don't see why that can't exist.
c. Heck, it fuels people like Admir to go to further extents. If you let it be for a few days, who knows...discussion may (or may not..there is always that argument) end and Admir may start new story again, in which case he might just drop what he has right now. And even if he doesn't, I don't see it as a hot talking point anymore.
4. It's important to let discussions run its course. At certain moments things may get off and personal, but ultimately I hope (and obviously I don't know what is happening behind the scenes) this discussion is not suppressed. After all, if you do that, there is always one last punch one user wants to throw before claiming they will stop the discussion.
a. I see what SN is doing as a good sign. Feel free to continue, but we'll warn you if it gets out of hand. Though to be honest I don't see a reason to hold up something unless it's reported and it's reasonable.
A long rant on that specific topic, but of course it's not just the result of that one thing. I'm seeing things get deleted (not that they would necessarily mean much, but again, even if something is ignorant you can let it be unless it becomes a problem) that wouldn't have been in the past. That perhaps doesn't leave so good of an image on what you guys are doing.
Not easy to be an admin and moderate a forum, I know. Right now I'm just seeing quite a lot of formalities, at least more than when I first started becoming active. I fear sooner or later there will be a "Read before you post" list, and the slippery slope after that is quite prevalent in other communities (forums)...
...which is why I liked PCM Daily in the first place and decided to become active. Not suppressed, relaxed, and not ban-crazy. I'm not saying the site is better or worse at its current state, but maybe there's a step back to be taken. Maybe. I hate to draw this analogy, but it's almost like telling a small child not to do something. They're tempted even more so to do it.
Am I affected by this? Probably not. Is there that much wrong with stepping in? No. But I don't think these types of silly edit/delete wars are useful. Sometimes the situation just has to play out.
Not taking sides, but I had to get this out.
baseballlover312, 06-03-14 : "Nuke Moscow...Don't worry Russia, we've got plenty of love to go around your cities"
Sarah Palin, 08-03-14 (CPAC, on Russian aggression) : "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a nuke is a good guy with a nuke"
Big thanks to jdog for making this AMAZING userbar!

I am more rude, cocky and more beautiful. That should make a difference.

54798: To be honest, I have to disagree. I don't think anyone should have been banned, but that discussion was way out of hand. When you compare it to before, people have been banned for stealing shirts. Id rather someone stole my work than be called some of the things in that thread any day.

While I agree that no-one should be banned, Hobbit raises a very good point. People have been banned for less, and this could be seen as not keeping continuity.

Dont be so sensitive guys. Stealing from someone and calling him names are different situations. Who cant handle the spicy word or ignore personal attacks with cold blood, should avoid internet comletely. I agree with what SN posted in difficult topics thread and i hope everybody fill try to move within borders of it.
Or you two really want admirschleck to be banned? Maybe you will also take his place in database team and bring us even better work?

I don't want admir to be banned. However, what I'm saying that the same standards should apply to everyone. And personal insults, especially when the people don't know eachother, are bad. Call me old fashioned, I don't think that the internet has to be the place for things like that.

I dont like insults either mate, but if it obviously came from the heat of the discussion and it is not a standard, i think the "target" should get over it and we too.

Yeah that's kind of what I thought. Thing is, it's harder for acac because he is actually there and anything in that discussion can affect him.

Moving this from Mafia thread here.

What's admir's new avatar? I like it.
I just hope I am not going to be haunted by countless PMs about how I am provocating now. Thought I can't see the difference between this symbol of fight (clenched fist) and a simple, plain, flag of a country (Palestine, my previous avatar) and I still fail to see how is that a provocation and how can anyone actually be pissed off by simply looking at Palestinian flag and reading my signature. No matter how ridiculous and hilarious this sounds, some guys, that I am not going to name here, actually said this.
Whatever, I think I am once again "bringing unpeaceful atmosphere" (yeah, I am accused for that, too) here, so I'm gonna stop. I just hope my avatar and signature won't get deleted for 10th time in very short time, as it's not meant to provoke anyone or anything on this planet. Just my liking towards one beautiful country.

I think beautiful isn't the word. Anyway, I knew it was something like that, but I think it looks nice.
EDIT: Also, I'm not sure you can complain about some of the things you've been accused of.
