Café Pedro 9: Nein, nein, nein!

I guess having a Windows Phone has helped me with 8.1. Been using it for about a week now and i have no problems with funtionality or interface. Granted it is designed with touch screens firmly in mind so moving around it can be awkward at times, and the lack of a general menu like the old Start Menu is frustrating at first. But now i've got all the key programms pinned in the correct places it's a non-issue

Nevermind, suddenly my computer is working fine again, the battery is behaving as it should.

Self-fixing computer, oh yeah!

Numbers are actually not unlimited. Though we can always expand the number of numbers we have, our current system is limited to our imagination.

No, numbers are most certainly unlimited (infinite). It's pretty trivial to show and understand this...

Nope, I'm pretty sure NTTHRASH is right here.

To prove it:

Say the largest number you can think of.

<insert number here>

so that's the largest number possible, you seem to think it is. So you just admitted that numbers are finite. Smile

I'm kind of torn on the issue.

Numerical equations suggest that there can be any amount of numbers, but the human imagination is finite, so I don't know.

If you really want to get nerdy on the issues then the largest named number is Graham or Grahams number, the easiest explanation I found is here https://mathworld.wolfram.com/GrahamsN...umber.html
I really can't be bothered explaining it so enjoy Wink

Ok then...

All you need is an infinite set of numbers. The really fun part happens when you learn you can have one infinite set of numbers that is larger than another

Which then proves that numbers are finite, because you can't get a number higher than Grahams number. Smile

So I take the largest number and I add 1 to it. What does that say about the number previously declared the largest number?

And regarding that Windows 8 discussion. I though you get the start menu if you press the windows button, not? Got to check with my dads computer.

York. Really liked it, accommodation isn't cheap but is really high quality and the people seemed really genuine. Plus it's pretty good for the course I want to do - my only concern is that it's the nearest university to home although even then it's 45 minutes away. It's definitely going in my 5 with Warwick, Bath, Exeter and Newcastle though Smile

Called it Cool
Great University. About 15-20% of my year went there in the end. Great quality teaching, great campus and the city is amazing.
Being 45minutes from home myself i can tell you it's not an issue. Both ways adds up to a time investment so it's not like parents will just pop up for an afternoon (parents depending) but is still close enough that any problems can be quickly solved.
One of my best mates went to Bath and again it' just a top level Uni. But my allegience is with Bristol and i am obligated to say don't go there.
Exter is also pretty cool and again i know a couple of people down there. They like it but the complaint is that Exeter is kind of far from anywhere else and isn't big so it can get a bit boring.

A fifth of your year went to the same university? Shock

Yeah, I'm a really big fan of York. In the best county in the UK (Pfft) and near enough to home as well as convenient for visiting family in the North East because the rail links are really good. The £125 a week rent is a bit of drawback but it's brand new, cost of living is pretty low and quite a few of my friends not going to uni live there already so it's no huge problem. Plus you do a year abroad in North America, Australia, Europe or Asia if you want for reduced fees while still graduating after 3 years.

Bath looks great, it's not cheap to live in compared to those in the North though which is a shame, and the point about Exeter is my main reservation with it. Bristol lost out to Newcastle in the end because of the lower entry requirements in Newcastle, but it seemed pretty good Smile
