USA Pro Cycling Challenge - Stage 5
Spilak23
imageshack.us/a/img5/5886/k90m.jpg

This is the best chance for the sprinters to take a stage win. It's actually their only chance not to return home empty-handed after the first stage proved too tough. Favourites are i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/amx_zps91aadbbd.png Farrar, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/var_zps06f2aa1f.png Gatto and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/hol_zpsfe2f7500.png Brea.

imageshack.us/a/img12/6038/n5l8.jpg

Bintang leader i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/bin_zps9ee3c16e.png Nazaret joined a first attempt to form a break. He is a very good climber but couldn't create differences on the mountain stage and feels like he needs to try something. Hollister don't like that and quickly pull the group back.

imageshack.us/a/img708/948/dovc.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/prp_zps2240497e.png Borges soldifies his KoM-lead by taking full points on the only hill of the day.

imageshack.us/a/img607/4816/bmn9.jpg

Two riders join him to form the break of the day. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/vue_zps51fdf35e.png Vichot and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/bin_zps9ee3c16e.png Nazaret. Nazaret is only 2'05 behind the leader in GC but nor the timetrial, nor the hilly stage suit him. Is he already giving up and just gathering some tv time or does he have a plan?

He arguably still cares about the GC as he sprints for the seconds at the intermediate.

imageshack.us/a/img716/9982/4428.jpg

(Missed a good pic about these three joining the break, this is the best I got, Sorry
3 more riders join the leaders and the break of 6 start to gradually grow their lead over the peloton. Names of the three who joined: i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/btc_zpse1fa0b09.png Locatelli, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/src_zps90f6d964.png Warbasse and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/jag_zps1b91f70a.png Reguigui.

Sprinter teams i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/var_zps06f2aa1f.png Vespa, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/hol_zpsfe2f7500.png Hollister and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/amx_zps91aadbbd.png Amex have taken over from WWE. The peloton is in full chase mode now, the breaks lead is coming down quickly.

imageshack.us/a/img824/1921/83w1.jpg

7 km from the line, the peloton, led by GC competitiors Pozzovivo, Chavanel and Kiserlovski, makes the catch.

imageshack.us/a/img836/5637/08ha.jpg

Three sprint trains have formed when the sprint is about to start with 3 km to go.

imageshack.us/a/img29/4655/tmuw.jpg

Marentes is very strong and has pulled his train next to the two others as the final leadouts have to go for it.

imageshack.us/a/img96/1744/iyov.jpg

Machado makes an early move trying to surprise his opponents.

Farrar has a gap to close into Keough's wheel because Kurth slightly blocked him when he peeled of the front.

imageshack.us/a/img94/2949/mh9y.jpg

Machado is still in the lead after passing under the red kite. Borrajo, Farrar and Gatto all three start their move while Brea stays very calm in the wheel of his leadout Dempster.

imageshack.us/a/img835/6025/nhcw.jpg

Brea has started his move with 600 metres left. But just like Farrar, Gatto and Borrajo, he doesn't seem to have the kick to overtake Machado.

Is the Repsol rider's early move paying off here?

imageshack.us/a/img850/3587/urb3.jpg

It does! i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/rep_zps8fe99b28.png Honorio Machado takes the stage win with a daring move from more than 1.5 kilometre out. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/var_zps06f2aa1f.png Gatto came close in the end but none of the sprinters were really impressive here.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/hol_zpsfe2f7500.png Brea takes the last podium spot while i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ozc_zps749fc2f0.png Keukeleire and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/amx_zps91aadbbd.png Farrar complete the top 5.

imageshack.us/a/img706/5391/io1j.jpg

A gap has formed behind the 59th rider in the peloton. 100 riders are caught out and ofcourse there are some big names in there:
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/mti_zps330e0e2d.png Grygorenko (3rd overal)
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/amx_zps91aadbbd.png Chavanel (5th overal)
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/mei_zpsbbaf4141.png Stetina (8th overal)
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/luk_zps37d4ab7e.png Karpets
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/var_zps06f2aa1f.png Bosisio (4th overal)
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/hol_zpsfe2f7500.png Kiserlovski
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/tcs_zps625f9315.png Kritskiy
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ozc_zps749fc2f0.png Visconti

The race-organisers show mercy and give them the same time as the winner. That means no changes in the GC.
