Tour de Suisse - Stage 6

Its tough work from the start and after some attacks got chased down, Vila and Sella break away.
i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/suisse34.png

Their gap maxes at 2 minutes and the peleton shred themselves to many pieces in an attempt to contain the pair, who are 10th and 11tth Overall. Going over the top, the pack splits and the split is still there at the bottom of the descent.
i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/suisse35.png

The big losers are Ricco, Karpets, Brajkovic, and Intxausti but the pace up front slows and they easily gain contact again on the next climb.

The action doesnt really start again til the long penultimate climb, the Sustenpass as Moreau, Efimkin and Piepoli set off in pursuit of Gustov. Sella, Ricco, Caruso and Karpets then all attack but only Caruso gets away and he catches the other 3.

Moreau and Caruso then leave Efimkin and Piepoli who are caught by the pack. A couple of kilometres later, Benat Intxausti launches an attack and all the big favourites counter: Dessel, Menchov and Cunego.

Dessel has caught Gustov and is pursued by Menchov, Cunego, Intxausti, Moreau, Caruso and Perez Cuapio. Vila and Brajkovic are also in the mix. But this attack is ruined with bad Ferrari tactics, Gustov takes a long relay and the rest of the main lcimbers catch them.

Dessel is still up front though and crosses the summit first, a new group of 9 is next Perez Fernandez, Pecharroman, Gustov, Medina, Cunego, Parra, Caruso and Perez Cuapio. But Gustov (Who else) yet again slows them, allowing the other big guns to catch up again.

Ferrari are in the action again as Perez Cuapio launches a powerful attack to reach Dessel.
i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/suisse38.png

Menchov is next, while a group of 6: Cunego, Medina, Parro, Vila, Caruso and Pecharroman follow.

With 8.7km to go, Perez Cuapio has cracked.
i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/suisse39.png

Pecharroman also cracks at the same point from the chasing group as Cunego rides away. Here is the situation with thew big 3 up front again, and a recovering Perez Cuapio able to stick with Cunego.
i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/suisse40.png

Menchov reaches Dessel and if they work together, they could cancel out their gaps to Cunego.
i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/suisse41.png

But Dessel and Menchov dont seem to understand common sense and for the final 5km, do not work together. In the sprint Menchov is passed by Dessel and the frenchman opens a little gap, but Menchov closes in and its a photo finish!

Piepoli and Vila both took a large haul of points today, but Vila is the one with the KoM jersey.
