Your sprinting guide

Well then, how many times have you been beat in the final sprint because you 1. are caught in the leadout train and get stuck behind 2. get beat to the line with 1 meter to the line 3. get into the thick of the peleton and can't get to the front quick enough? Then this guide is for you! Here is the best way to win a final sprint.
(Guide for a 7 rider train)
STEP 1: Fetch water 17.5km from the finish. This ensures you will have full energy.
STEP 2: Place your riders in relay 15km out. You MUST be at the front to get out in time.
STEP 3: Place your weakest rider at 85 effort with the dot and set the train with 12.5 km left.
STEP 4: At 7.5km to go, set the lead rider to 99.
STEP 5: At the 5km banner, drop the 1st rider into Maintain Position at 99 effort and move your next into 99 effort dot.
STEP 6: 3km left: Drop rider 2 into Maintain Position and rider 3 at 99 dot.
STEP 7: As soon as rider 3 reaches 53 km/hr, launch him, the one behind, and the following.
STEP 8: The train accelerates to 57 km/hr, then launch your pre-sprinter at 99 and your sprinter at 70.
STEP 9: Right about now, the train should be nearing 1.6km left. Get the sprinter's effort to 99, and he should fly out past EVERYONE.

Surely the 53kmh only applies to certain gradiants. Eg. Stage 1 of the 2012 TDU is downhill, and averages 65+ on the run in.
Also i would delay your actual sprint as long as possible. From 1.6km you are very likely to run out of steam. 1.2km would be my recommendation as the earliest time to sprint, but usually 800m is perfect.

@ManxMissile: You are totally welcome to tweak so that you can win. On the subject of gradients, yes, this only applies to -1%-1.1% gradients as all others modify the speed curve. Follow this guide: increase of 0.6% grade over 1%, speed=-2km/hr. Decrease of 0.8% under grade of -1%, speed=+2km/hr, +1km/hr until max of 70km/hr, then gain +1km/hr every 2% decrease. For actual sprint length, when your riders pop out into the train at 85 effort, the peleton doesn't react and sometimes you can even escape because they move so slowly. After this, the AI auto-sprints at 1.2-1.6km, so everyone fades late. If you can get the good jump, they don't catch you. Probably should have added this info in the guide, but I didn't find it immediately relevant.
Well I'd say that 1.6 kms out is a bit early for the main sprinter in PCM12, but that's my opinion. Something that is a fact, though, is that the effort bar has no effect on sprinting
@lluuiiggii: Well, maybe, but the jump is what matters and you can't get caught behind, at least the way I see things. Second, not at all true; if your sprint stat is 64+ the effort bar will change the level of initial acceleration that you put in. So as a result, a 50 represents moderate acceleration and requires very little energy, opposed to a 99 which means near instant warp from 53km/hr to near 70.
#7: Well, that shouldn't be too hard to test. Perhaps it was already done by sobrano, but I'm not sure. Anyway: edit the stats of two riders so that they are exactly the same; disable all stuff that could change such as random fitness and daily form; enter a stage, get those two riders to ride dot 15, side by side, wait for an intermediate sprint and click sprint on both of them, changing one's effort to 3 f.e. and the other to 99. I just tested this, and they both accelerated exactly the same

What works for me is: Put your first man on follow, follow one of the leading men in the peloton. And then you either go full with your first man on 10K or, depending on the profile and track, wait just before that last sharp turn and make sure you come out first. After that just the normal routine of leading out and finishing.
I don't like to use too many guys in a train, because a weak link can mess up everything. With this tactic i've won a lot of races with Kittel as the main man and Degenkolb often ending on the podium as well. The train: Veelers - De Kort - Degenkolb - Kittel (PCM 14)
