Weekly News #104
With Pellizotti2 having gone on a weekend vacation far, far away from useable internet, I have the pleasure of bringing you this week's Weekly News.
Merry Christmas from PCM.daily First of all, the crew at PCM.daily would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. Hopefully, you'll all get the chance to celebrate it with your dearest - perhaps with some pretty awesome food and a present or two too ;-)
New story initiative sees light of day We recently launched the Story of the Month award, organized by admin Mresuperstar, but in the coming time story makers can expect even more exposure of both themselves and their stories, thanks to a new initiativer by member Ian Butler.
Dubbed 'Writers Block', Ian Butler plans to make a monthly (or two-monthly) magazine about story writing with interviews of the writers, updates on current stories, flashbacks to old stories and much more. You can read more about it here.
1961 database released We've previously mentioned a beta version of a 1961 database in this section, however now it's time to enjoy the full version.
As the name reveals, this database lets you play with the teams and riders of 1961. It comes with 52 teams, 1000 riders and basically everything else you need and more. Unfortunately, the career mode does not work with this DB, but there should be plenty of hours of entertainment in playing with the many new stages the database comes with anyway.
Have your say Some time next week, the PCM.daily Awards will make its return to the site - as usual, with the nominations opening up first before the actual voting.
Currently, there are no plans on changing anything in particular, but we've opened up a thread where you now have the chance to propose new award categories for this year's awards. So if you have a good idead for a new PCM.daily award, this is the place to go.
If you want to help making sure that PCM14 will be as free of bugs as possible, then perhaps you should consider applying to become an official beta tester. You have until Friday to send in your application. The actual test will take place between January 6th and 17th.
Testers will be able to try both racing and career mode, and then report possible bugs back to Cyanide.
2013 Paris-Nice available on DLC
Those of you who are enjoying the Tour de France console game but are getting a little tired of playing the same stages over and over again, will be happy to hear that Cyanide have released the 2013 Paris-Nice route for download.
Man-Game: Wide open overall in the unpredictable TONE
With individual time trials, sprints, hills and cobbles all included in the route, the Tour of Northern Europe is definitely the most divers race on the Man-Game calendar.
Four stages in, French time trial-specialist Jerome Coppel is leading the race, but the riders are packed closely together behind him. With the one hard day in the Ardennes and one on the cobbles in northern France remaining, it's pretty clear that it is all but decided who's going to take the overall. Puncheur, cobbler or timetriallist - take your pick!
In contrast to last month, the voters seemed fairly unanimous when selecting November's most popular story. The winner is none other than awards organiser Mresuperstar, with The Comeback! tsmoha and Australia's NRS was a clear, yet relatively distant runner-up.
New Story of the Month also has a clear winner: tpinot's May The Dream Come True. Congratulations to both winners!
lluuiiggii steps down
The project leader of the past few PCM.daily databases, lluuiiggii, has decided to step down from his position.
With his incredible sense for detail, lluuiiggii has taken the Daily DBs to a whole new level, but unfortunately, time constraints and lack of motivation means that he does not want to continue as project leader.
However, he will continue to be a part of the database team and help out with the upcoming 2014 DB which will be 'led' and organized by CrueTrue.
Help out with PCM.daily's 2014 DB
And speaking of the 2014 database, it's time to raise your hand if you wish to contribute.
Needless to say, without the multi-talented lluuiiggii's full diligence, we do need more people on the team to help out with various tasks - for example: database editing (e.g. updating rosters/adding riders, adding races/stages etc., palmares), graphics (mainly accessories and logos), stages.
The plan is to make the PCM.daily DB contributors more of a team and get the work done in an even more organized matter, for example through Skype.
So if you feel that you have any sort of skill that would come in handy for making the 2014 DB and you wish to contribute, please do send a Private Message to CrueTrue.
Man-Game managers: nominate your riders for the worlds!
Germany - and Stuttgart to be more precise - has been selected as the location for this year's Man-Game world championships. The next step in the preparation process is nominating your riders for participation. This can be done after reading the first post in the official thread.
Not much happened this week (again), but that will all change in the next few days. Hi everybody, it's Mresuperstar with my first complete Weekly News. I'm here to share a couple of intiatives that will be up and running during the first week of December.
November Story of the Month
The nominations have been confirmed and their story summaries are ready to pursuaded you into voting for them. The only thing left now is to find ourselves a winner. Voting is now open for the November Story of the Month and New Story of the Month awards.
Voting will be open all week and the winners will be crowned here in next week's Weekly News.
Do you have want it takes to outwit, outplay, and outlast your fellow PCM.Daily members? Here is your chance to find out.
I'm proud to announce the return of PCM.Daily Survivor game for it's 2nd season. This year it comes with new challenges, (hopefully) more competitors, and one huge new twist. The basic Survivor rules remain the same so if this peaked your interest have a look at last year's thread to get more familar with how the game works. I'm looking to get 20 competitors for this season.
The sign-up period and clearer guidelines for this competition will be available on Sunday. Also, the members that took part in season one will be allowed to compete again this season. So, I hope to see Jesleyh back to defend his title as "PCM.Daily's Sole Survivor."
Although the week itself hasn't been the most exciting in the site's history, this is still a pretty special news article: the 100th edition!
Had we only gotten here a week earlier, it'd also coincide with the eighth anniversary of PCM.daily's opening (November 16th). Close enough I think, especially since it takes place in the week between the opening and the first edition of the news ever (December 3rd).
Enough looking back now. Let's have a look at what has happened on the site during the past days.
First real 2014 jerseys created
Tired of waiting for the actual 2014 cycling season to begin? Perhaps you can calm your impatience by adding Omega Pharma-Quickstep's (and BMC's, although it's not exactly different) new jersey(s) to PCM. The 2014 jerseys thread in the graphics forum has really sparked to life in the last few days, with several shirtmakers having produced a version of the new designs.
Kashechkin or Kiserlovski: Who wins the 2013 Tour of America?
By the time the last news was posted, the three weeks long Tour of America hadn't even begun yet. Today, the race is 12 stages in thanks to a brilliant pace of reporting from roturn.
Repsol-Cativen's Andrei Kashechkin is currently leading the race, having dominated the mountains along with defending champion Robert Kiserlovski (Hollister). With the rest a long way back, it is looking like a two-horse race for overall victory. Don't miss the rest of the exciting race!
