The break of optimistic rider was made up of 12 men Sawodogo, Shatskikh, Cioban, Lay, Mardones, Passalacqua, Herve, Scarponi, Blaudzun, Lloyd, Diniz, Hruska

They are caught by 30km to go though as Blythe, Steurs, Albert and Bewley launch an attack

Albert is the best of the 4 and gets a lead

But disaster strikes - he punctures!

He does at least stay ahead of the peleton though, from which more attacks are coming

Events are briefly calm with 12km to go, as Blythe, Steurs and Bewley continue to lead

And then a group with Eichler, Traksel, Sentjens, Kopp, Albert, Hoste and Franzoi

The chasers continue attacking each other as they try to close down the front 3 but Blythe and Steurs are still ahead with 5km to go. Bewley was dropped by those 2 and is now with Vanspeybrouck, Hoste and Albert

And closing in on the finish, Steurs has gapped Blythe!

So Geert Steurs wins Scheldeprijs!
