Will anyone but Valverde be able to conquer these Spanish hills and take victory today?

It looks like all teams are represented in the break of the day - Diggle, Rodrigues Silva, Kuchinski, Wysee, Remme, Casper, Shimada, Ortega, Pagoto, Grippo, Galparsoro

But despite the shared interest, Santander, Energie-Diesel and to an extent Vespa-Caffrey's are involved in chasing down the break. And with the gap below 2 minutes we have some attacks - Brajkovic and Bertagnolli

Galparsoro takes this as a signal to attack the break, and a few others follow

Vicioso, Nocentini, Valverde, Colom and Ginanni all attack from the pack

Remme and Wyss lead, chased for Rodrigues Silva, Diggle and Galparsoro, and then a group of 13 including those pre-race favourites who have attacked

Attacks from that 13 man group now - Vicioso, Valverde, Brajkovic, Bertagnolli

Amid all the attacks, Valverde is the strongest - he has got himself into the lead, on his own

Wyss, Bertagnolli, Brajkovic, Ginanni, Colom, Vicioso, and Nocentini in pursuit

Onto the final hill with 6km to go and Brajkovic, Nocentini and Ginanni attack in a last ditch bid to catch Valverde

And they manage it! Ginanni and Nocentini slot onto Valverde's wheel

So here we go, Valverde leads out the sprint

Victory for Francesco Ginanni! 2nd for Nocentini as Valverde can only manage 3rd, with Brajkovic 4th

Vicioso comes in 5th, while Colom just edges out Bertagnolli for 6th
