So I have the idea that we could start a thread for newbies at kit-designing. Like a development team, It would be ideal if the experienced shirt-makers could school us and give us advice and tips on what we are doing. I've done two so far.
A Banco Santander jersey for all those Contador fans:
And a UNC Asheville Jersey for my brother's collegiate cycling team, as he makes his run for a second straight conference championship They may actually have Champ-Sys make this:
I hope this doesn't seem like a lame idea, I think it's kinda cool

Ok. Let me start teaching
First of all, good choise of colors. Red and white are good components.
Next thing (and not so good) are logos. As you see, Santander logo on front of the jersey is too big, it would be better if you make it smaller to fit within two vertical lines on jersey plis or even smaller. Ferrari logos are too big too. Especially on shorts. Note that you have small areas on sides of plis to union two parts of texture and if you placing something on that parts (on front for example) you have to double that part on back side.
Ferrari logo on butt is black... It's not the bast idea to combine black and red colors.
And I know, if you are just starting making jerseys it's quite good ,but it is too simple. If you habe only one big sponsor, you'll have to make more "designed" jersey.
And the last thing. You made jersey design "multiplied" with plis but didn't do that with logos.
I hope, you'll not take offence and will develop. Good luck

Thanks a lot for the advice man, I really appreciate it. I will definitely take your tips into account. I do have a question though. I've been working in Paint.net, and I can't seem to get the logos to do right on the colored parts of the jersey when I select "multiply". It makes the logos become nearly invisible for some reason. Is that even remotely a problem with photoshop? Because if not then I'll just go ahead and get that and start working with it. And myself personally, I'll probably make simpler more 'retro' looking jerseys for myself, but I agree that I need to practice more designs and such in order to truly become versatile as a designer.

Well, I working with photoshop and have no such problem with right way of using it. Maybe you can do that in Paint.net.
Firstly you making all design with logos etc. Then you unite all your layers (not a layer with plis) into one and you make just this one layer to be multiply

Great work! Only one thing I could tell you - It would be much better if you'll use smoother lines in design

It's much better to leave all the color and logo layers on "normal" and then put the plis on top of all layers on "multiply" |

Awful way of doing it as you'd never be able to change it back (unless you save multiple copies) or do small changes if you need to.

Sorry to sound a bit dumb, but what is 'plis'?

Well, it's a jersey template (white one, without any other colors and logos)

What are the stripes on sleeves? Is that national championships or what? And they are not multiplied as main color.
Next thing is logos on front. I think, it would be better to make them higher. I mean, the most of main sponsor logos are made on chest, not on stomach
Look on shorts. You have yellow "stripe" on it, but it is very pixelated. Try to mark area for color more careful.
Pirelli logo is OK for me, but Tesco logo is too bright and looks not good. You have two ways to fix it. First - you can make an white aureole around it. Second - you can make colors of logo more dark.
And one more thing. I think, it would be better to make white areas on sides of jersey. Then you could make all the design on front higher and it would be more appropriate with shorts.
And don't you think it would be better to have logos on sleeves too?
Keep trying

I have a better feeling about this version. One slight messup on the side, which looks 'meh' ingame, but it doesn't kill the whole thing, imo.

Yeah, looks better. You could improve it by moving the Santander logo on the chest a bit down though.
Do you use NIFSkope or a such thing to test your shirts? |

I use the shirt-viewer on the site. I'll try moving it down maybe, my only fear is that the armpits will eat it lol

Yes, it was my thought too. And also you could move F1 and Nike logos closely to each another. Now they are seem to be on sleeves, not on chest
