Another short stage, just like yerserday, only is todays’ even flatter. This favours Forster before Ventoso and Sutton.
The break of the day has an easy time, since the first attackers can go away without any fight. At the first sprint, Zaini has no trouble holding off Khalilikhosroshani and Devenyns, with Stoltz ending up empty handed here.
Madrazo controls the pack again around 6 minutes before Wii Racing takes over to start the chase. It’s a no go today for the break.
Meanwhile, Zaini took another sprint with Stoltz taking revenge in second and Devenyns third again.
Adn when Devenyns is the last rider to be caugth, the sprinters are already setting up their trains.
Heading into the final 5k, Valverde is up front in his yellow jersey as there don’t seem tob e any strong trains. Del Nero is on the left with Ventoso, as are Chacon and Sutton and Costa with Moreno. They’re followed by all other sprinters.
Balck heads into the sprint on his own on the right hand side of the road, Wirth Jeanneson in the lead on the other side. Costa and Moreno are the first train.
And they’ve taken the lead in the final 2km, as all of a sudden all ‘big’ sprinters are gone! Moreno is now leading followed by Vandenbroeck, Duque and Erricson with Valverde still up front as well. It seems these will battle it out!
Under the arch of the final K they’ve taken a slight advantage over the rest as Duque makes his move and shoots past Moreno.
And seeing that acceleration it can’t be called a suprize none of the riders up front could counter that. It’s a job well done!
Behind him, Vandenbroeck managed to pass Moreno as well taking second and 12 bonification seconds with it. And since he was only 5 seconds behind on race leader Valverde, Vandenbroeck takes over the jersey, with Moreno passing Valverde as well taking second now in GC.
This may not last long though, as we have the mountain stage tomorrow, where everybody expects Valverde to have a go at the final GC victory. We’ll have to wait and see…
