He guys,
maybe some of you still remember the rsm-profiler (https://user.cs.tu-berlin.de/~jpeters/rsm_profiler.rar).
for those who dont: its a handy little program i wrote as i started to use the stage-editor. you can make changes to the xml-file and it immediately display these on a profile. functions added later on include drawing profile via mouse, displaying of the checkpoints, randomizing existing stages (to make fantasy-profiles look more realistic), display of sprints etc, displaying images in the background (to draw a profile from a image you got from the inet) and customizing the appearance of the profile, so that all you geeks out there can upload profiles with a personal note .
since i have not worked on the programm since two years ago i decided that it is time for an update. so, here is where you come into play:
- what do u miss?
- what bugs have u experienced?
- why dont you like it at all?
- what should i add?
- how do YOU use it? (what styles, languages, functions...)
the more you guys write me, the better i can customize the next version to the very needs of the community!
to point, what i added and will add:
- simplifying profiles (when u imported gps-files they have WAY to many points to be handy)
- import of garmin-gps-files (*.gpx-support is in work, but i have numerical problems...)
- nullifying gps-errors (when the height suddenly drops to 0 and then goes up again...)
- adding sprint-buttons
- support for stages with more than just a few hundred sections
- calculation of average slope/length of the sections selected (so that you dont have to look up or calculate these dates for the "<place>"-tags)
- a tutorial that guides you trough the most important things the programm offers plus a guide on how to make custom layouts
- more layouts, including one for the giro and the vuelta.
what will be great: if some of you volunteer for translating. i only speak german and english. the previous versions had a french (probs to Romain_11700) and an italian (credits out to Rodry) translation. but currently the program uses about 70 language-strings, translated are only 39. so... thanks in advance!
also: im pretty far ahead with the new version. some finetuning here and there, probably adding support for google-earth-files etc... i would love some of you guys to take a look at it and tell me what still needs to be done. so if YOU are an experienced stage-designer and preferably have not much experience with the tool, maybe even just dont like it (yet...) report to me. send me a message with a few lines about yourself and i shall send you the link. i expect these guys to give me feedback so that when i come back from holidays i can further improve the profiler and finally upload a satisfactory 1.0 version.
dont be shy to post. allez allez! |

* An english version
*A read-me note pad included in the download/another download explaining the basic use/set up of an xml. I use the excel-to-xml way of doing my profiles because i never figured out how to use your program.
If i think of anything else, I'll add more later.

hehe, easily done
the tutorial is written in english, im too lazy too translate it into german atm, so there you go.
the tool itself offers german, english, italian and french. for the multiple language support you have to copy the inis into the same folder. on the last tab there is combobox in the top. "sprache" it would say in german. change to english. but since you never figured that one out i will add some graphics to the tabs and little flags for the various languages. |

@ arkon : Why don't you ask someone here if they want to translate your freeware interface in another language. If I remember, Cruetrue is from denmark ?
Yep, I know, I'm everywhere

Seems great!
But is it possible to remove the little box which says:
Warning
Save changes?
OK cancel?
Because it's actually quite annoying when it's pops up almost every time you're going to look at a new stage.

Sorry. It's my fault. I asked him if he could add this option . Did'nt noticed it could happen when navigating in a folder. But, in the v0.96, you were able to open a new stage without any warning...

Awesome editor
One problem i cant figure out - how do you save the stages created and get them to work in PCM? All i can get is a file on the desktop that the computer doesn't recognize
cheers

you mean after you imported a file or just created a new stage?
you have to enter the new filename in the combobox on the first page, then click save. extension gotta be xml.
it should be said that this is NOT a stage-editor, just a software to help you create profiles. you HAVE to use the stage-editor by cyanide still to create a working stage. |

So you can't actually use these profiles in the game? Have figured out how to save them now. Where is the cyanide stage editor?

It's in your main PCM-folder, e.g. Program Files/Cyanide/PCM (StageEditorApp.exe) |

And to complete what Cruetrue says, you can find :
1. A little (but old) english tutorial in the same folder
2. A german tutorial by rsm-news.de
3. Some explainations in french by Svam on Cyanide Forum and I started to do a tuto on the same forum *

one more update to go.
since stupid cyanide changed the stage-system this tool is now out of use for good. but only so for the newer versions! for pcm09 and earlier you can still use this... welll... gem ;)
only thing i've done is redesigne the simplification-algorithm. its now a lot better. still not perfect, but it finally gives you good enough results. some stages still like to have >150 points, but most of the rest you can reduce down to 50-100. dont have to, but 500-1000 points is just killing old machines. so...
the url is
https://user.cs.tu...ofiler.zip
the version number is
1.0.1
and im now officially fed up with a) delphi as a programming language and, more importantly, b) with the source code that started out as a little helper years ago and now has >2500 loc in the main file. that is definitely bordering to being of physical harm. holy cow!
so, hope you had fun over the years.

I never used the tool to create stages, but it was extremely helpful in terms of quickly looking through the stage profiles - it's a much more time-consuming process in PCM11.
So thanks a lot, and I hope you return with some sort of new tool for PCM11 eventually |
