When do you come out of a rider's wheel?

Amateur Posts: 12 Joined: 24-06-2008 PCM$: 200.00	What is the optimum time to come out of the wheel of the rider you have been following in a sprint and go for the line with your own man? At the moment I have been doing it at about the 1.5km point but I think I might be going a bit too early cos the other guys are overtaking with about 300m left (although most of the guys have better sprinting stats than me so maybe I'm doing well with what I've got). Obvisously it might be different for each stage but, on average, when does everyone else press that hallowed 'S' button?

For me it depends how much sprint energy has left for my rider, but most I left the lead-out wheel at about 700-800 meters to go...
