WARNING
This may seem like a rant but i am legitimately looking for help
I know it's been a while since i played PCM 08 and i usually played on normal/hard mix in 08 but i played with small continental teams most of the time (Liberty Seguros and BMC) and didn't have a lot of trouble winning the occasional race and consistently getting 1 top 10 per stage, But now that i'm playing PCM 09 on Hard with Columbia (Embarrassed to ever lose a sprint) I can't win to save my life, or even come close. I went through all of Tour of Qatar and Tour Down Under and the first part of Paris-Nice and Tirreno-Adriatico so far with only 1 stage win and it was with Cavendish.
My main problem seems to be that my team is just terrible, I know they aren't which is why i decided to play them but what i mean by that is that they ride like a bunch of cat 5s. They just casually lose a wheel and drift to the back of the pleton within seconds in a sprint or just lose all their yellow bar the second things get hard.
Normally i'd say it's their fitness or it's just not their terrain, but things are happening like Roman Fellieu is winning stages that Mark Renshaw and Bernard Eisel can't even get top 15 in and Fellieu is a good sprinter but doesn't have any other stat that's above 70 besides i think 70 even on hills, so i don't understand how guys like Renshaw and Eisel can be completely exhausted at the end of a stage and not even be able to hold some wanker 3rd rate sprinter's wheel and Fellieu can seemingly effortlessly ride to the front and then win. Countless other guys are winning too from tiny continental teams that have like 73 sprint and 66 hills.
And worst of all, in Paris-Nice, in one of the hilly first stages I was trying to get Thomas Lovkvist into a top 10 or top 5 spot which i thought reasonable, so he was my man to go with the breaks, and Oscar Frerie MADE the final breakaway like 30k out and I went with him and he DROPPED Thomas. Oscar Frerie, the sprinter Oscar Frerie, I'm aware he's a good outlaster but he has 72 hills i believe and Lovkvist has 77 and was +4 on the day. That was the final straw for me.
BTW all the riders i'm mentioning on my team have fitness between 80-90 so they aren't exactly out of shape or anything.
Thank you for taking the time to read this far and i hope you have some help for me and don't write me off as just complaining.
Thanks
Shifty

Thomas Lovkvist just got dropped by the pack on Mt. Ventoux, not by the lead group but by the whole pack, he and Mick Rogers lost almost a minute to the pack. . .

not sure what i could have done wrong, they were both protected by good hilly/mountainous riders the whole stage and stayed in the front at effort 54 so they wouldn't exert themselves then i put them on the Dot once it hit the mountain and then counter attacked the favorites and they went clear and i shot right back through the pack.

Greg Henderson (Fitness 92) just lost all his energy and got dropped on a completely flat stage on the run into the finish. All i did was have him Hold Position at 54 near the front and didn't touch him the rest of the stage, nothing for me to even mess up there.

Well I will say that its because we suck, and now I say we because I have the same problem, I get also a lot of second places with the star riders and lesser places with riders like Hagen in small races.. All I can say is, practice, practice, practice I know I have to |

I have the same problems too sometimes. I don't know why though. On flat stages i have sprinters always dropping. I think the flat stat is too important and so is the hill stat. without a sprinter with both, if not then your sprinters will be in a lot of pain.

It was not windy, it was in a stage race every time, the daily form was never worse than -2 and usually it was +2-4 and I always have a domestique go to get bottles around 25-28k (used to at 20k but he wasn't always back by the time the sprint train got goin' and it was in a stage race but it wasn't his green bar that drained it was the yellow.

I won the Giro d' Italia with Bradley Wiggins... his stats were 79 mountains 81 TT 75 hills 72 sta 71 res 74 rec on hard. This game isn't as hard as you make it out to be.

I'm not sayin' it's really hard so much as i'm just trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong, i had similar results in 08 getting 4th in the Tour with Chavanel (With the Default DB when he was like 75Mo and 73TT) and things of the sort just dunno what's up now my whole problem 100% has been my riders are losing their entire yellow bar before things even get hard, I just barely got 10th in Gent-Vevelgem with Hincapie because he died as did every other one of my cobbled classics riders (Burghardt and Eisel etc.) and it was because he just completely lost contact with the lead group, they didn't even need to attack to drop him.

Paris-Roubaix: Hincapie was a +5 and Burghardt was a +2 and protecting him all day, Hincapie lost all his energy and got dropped with 30k to go, his fitness is 95. FML I'm quitting this game.

well i've noticed that if you have your rider right behind the front of the peloton (where the riders get in a line and chase) you waste alot of energy. Also if your constantly trying to move your riders forward in the worst situations (like a climb) they tend to use alot of energy. also going up climbs theres a kind of bug which makes riders waste lots of energy

hmmmmm could be a coincidence but i stayed outta the way of the relay line and got 4th in Amstel Gold with Kirchen and should have won if it weren't for a poorly timed Gel/Attack combo (Attacked when the gel went even though it was a bad time and it cost me)

at first, i only managed a one top5 finish at TdU with Greipel, but after a bit of practice in single race mode, won 5 stages at tour of Qatar (2 with hincapie, 3 with cavendish), and one podium place with greipel who was my lead-out man.
all in all, practice makes perfect.

I think that you are not so good in the game so far, but with practice, you're going to overcome the situation and then imitate a guy from the British Isles that isn't so liked beyond the isles...

Fellieu is a good sprinter but doesn't have any other stat that's above 70 besides i think 70 even on hills, so i don't understand how guys like Renshaw and Eisel can be completely exhausted at the end of a stage and not even be able to hold some wanker 3rd rate sprinter's wheel and Fellieu can seemingly effortlessly ride to the front and then win.
Bravo, noticed the same thing. What does happen in PCM 09 is that riders' performance will vary alot more often in comparison to PCM 08. E.G. A rider with ~75 TT beating the crap out of 80+ TT specialists every now and then.
Next to that, the game DOES tend to be 'unfair' sometimes . Haha had a McEwen (=63 hills) be capable of following the peloton in Milan Sanremo (along with every other sprinter), whereas Farrar (=73 hills) dropped out, while having a decent condition and more flat and stamina than a McEwen
However, this isn't always the case. I've also rode Milan Sanremo's (and heaps of other races) in which the stat+performance was balanced. So my tip is to play on and see what will happen

Occasionally it works in your favour though - just had Meyer (TT 75) win the Australian time trial championship ahead of Rogers (TT 80) for my custom team |
