Its hills galore on what should be the decisive stage of the race - even after the unexpectedly decisive stage 2.
Plenty of early attackers including this group of 17 led by Franzoi
But Froome led a trio of 100% Me riders in chasing them down, before a smaller group of 8 went away.
Seeldraeyers, Lejman, Duque, Fajt, Cardoso, Pozzo, Fuglsang and Khalmuratov.
They were joined by Seledkov and Perry although Perry was dropped on the first of the 2 notably tough climbs of the day, summiting with 44km to go
With 20km to go we are onto the 2nd of the big climbs and Van Garderen attacks
Anza, Vicioso, Visconti and a Nokia rider follow
The break has also torn itself apart now, Fuglsang is solo with Seledkov in pursuit
Van Garderen's group is caught by 100% Me and Olympus AirAsia as more attacks go
Astarloa, Craven, Kunitski and Scheirlinckx
And here is the first direct attack on the yellow jersey! Longo Borghini is nowhere to be seen as Dan Martin launches an attack
Visconti and Wegmann follow as they pass Scheirlinckx and Craven and move towards Astarloa
Wegmann and Astarloa press on the descent
But Visconti and Martin join them, with the 4 holding a good gap on the peleton with around 6km to go
However a look up the road will show that Fuglsang still leads! LEGO's Danish rider is now the last survivor of the break
Dan Martin leads the group of 4 as he chases Yellow, while Fuglsang is just chasing the stage
We approach the final uphill sprint now as Martin still leads the chase
The Irish champion isnt going to catch Fuglsang though and Astarloa is the first to move for it
Fuglsang is giving it all he's got but the 6% gradient isnt helping him
Astarloa closes in on Fuglsang - but Wegmann is flying!
Its down to 2 men for the stage with Fuglsang passed - but who will it be?
Wegmann!
5th for Martin with the Irishman set to swap white for yellow
46 seconds later Vicioso leads in the pack ahead of Granjel Cabrera who went surprisingly well in order to defend his green jersey from the threat of Wegmann
