Hello people! For so long I've been tempted to write a story but, just haven't found the motivation to do it. I used to read the Jonas Aean Jorgenson story all the time until it ended and now I've been reading the Daniel Martin story every morning for the past few weeks. I gotten my inspiration from their stories and have decided to write my own single rider story. I've created my own Rider for this story (it's not me lol i'm not italian) using the DB editor. Think of him as an the next Fabian Cancellara  .
I will play every stage that my rider particpates in and will also play my team's goals... just to make sure I don't get fired.
Difficulty: HARD (maybe extreme if things get too easy)

My name is Gerardino Mazzi and I am 20 years old.
I've been riding bikes since I was 12 years old and am completely committed to becoming a pro cyclist. I got my start riding for a small local team that completed in stage races and time trials all over northern Italy. Talent Scouts came from all over Europe to see me ride and they liked what they saw. In no time I finally got my start, skipping right over other continental teams, joining Pro Tour Team Lampre where I would ride alongside guys like Damiano Cunego and Alessandro Ballan!!! I was frickin' pumped to say the least... My season will begin soon and I'm ready to begin training and racing after some months of working out my contract. Here's my training schedule...
My goals for this year are assisting Ballan in Milan - San Remo and the cobbled classics, assisting Cunego in Liege - Bastogne - Liege and in the Giro d'Lombardia.
Our Team manager sat me down within a week of me joining the team and he explained to me that he might consider having me ride the Giro this year. He didn't get specific but, he made it clear that I would have to work hard to gain a spot. Entering into this kind of environment at such a young age may be daunting to some... but, I'm staying calm. I have racing to do....

January News
Mick Rogers wins in the Aussie National ITT while Simon Gerrans is victorious in the Aussie National Road Race. Nothing of significance happens at the TDU. Lorenzetto places 12th at almost 2 minutes back. Roger Hammond takes the race in front of Thomas Voeckler and Mickael Buffaz.
Team News
The sponsers we have chosen to represent throughout the 2009 season are spending a very pleasing sum of money on our team leaving us with a monthly profit of just under $60k a month. I don't think Lampre has to worry about going bankrupt .
Rider News
I've just started my training regimen and I am feeling stronger day by day. My team manager is still working out my race schedule for February as I was not present at the Tour Down Under. I'm excited to see where my first pro race will be!

Giro della Provincia di Grosseto
My first professional cycling race!! In my home country as well. The atmosphere is amazing with photographers, fans, and cyclists everywhere. It really was a very thrilling experience. I was eager to start the race. My duties for today and for the whole Giro were to protect Mori from destination to destination. I am only here to test my legs and to help Mori gain a high GC spot.
Unfortunately I don't have any screenshots (will fix! lol) but a group of 11 got away from the beginning and we put Buts in the breakaway to try and snag the KoM points which he did so tomorrow he will have the polka dot jersey. Up and down the small hills at the beginning of the stage I felt great and was able to finish feeling great. I protected Mori from the wind the entire race and he finished on my wheel. The breakaway was caught with about 10 km to go and finished in a sprint.

Giro della Provincia di Grosseto Stage 2
I'll admit it... i'm nervous. I've never rode my bike farther than 200 kms before. It seems like a daunting task but I'll do my best to set up Mori. The plan was to have Buts attack on the first ascension and get some KoM points to consolidate his jersey. Then have Mori go for the kill on the second ascension.
Here's me chillin in my Lampre kit in front of Mori. Some Miche rider decided that being away from his wife for 3 days was too much to take, so he decided to go to town on that unsuspecting rider in front of him.  gruesome sight...
Breakaway of 3 riders forms about 200k from the finish. It's a death mission even though their lead gets up to about 8 and a half minutes.
As we begin the first climb the breakaway is in sight and will most likely be caught before the summit.
Buts took a dig along with Marzoli, Hinault, Johansen, and Bewley but Buts (lol) wasn't strong enough to take some points and ended up in no mans land and was shortly caught before the second climb along with everyone else.
At the bottom of the next climb everything is back together but it's far from calm.
About 3k from the summit Mori leaves my wheel and takes a big dig.
Ongarato tried to follow but only Capecchi could stay with Mori. They are now alone on the descent.
Sadly they are caught about 6k's from the finish and they both finish with the P.
It comes down to a sprint and another LPR win by Bernucci. I rolled in with the peloton, completely gased. That was one hell of a long ride... WTF am I going to do in Paris - Roubaix...

Giro della Provincia di Grosseto Stage 3
Our plan for today was to have Buts, again, attack and try for those KoM points. The wind was blowing hard today which made the beginning very strenuous. Today's stage was hard but nearly as bad as yesterday. My job was still to protect Mori all day. The team manager told him to use the final climb as a launch pad and hopefully come away with a win.
The beginning was crazy with attacks going by one after another for 10 kilometers. Buts looked strong and waited for his turn to go.
Buts sees his chance and attacks from the peloton. As they work their way up the climb Sorenson is out front all by himself with about 40 seconds over the others.
Buts hangs tough and takes 2nd place in KoM points which gives him 10 points. Although the finish offers KoM points which means that Buts may not finish with the polka dots on his shoulders. =(
After the descent, Loosli takes a nasty fall. No one else around him crashed and he was able to get back on his bike and finish the stage. He looked angry and he was cut up pretty bad after the race was over though.
Meanwhile in breakaway land, no one was getting along so Sorenson was still out front. Buts was with 3 other guys but they were content with brutally attacking eachother over and over again so he decided to sit up and try to make it to the end.
Sorenson was later caught on the sharp ascension right before the laps started. The crowds were massive around this part of the course.
Masciarelli launched a big attack on the first of the triple finishing climbs. Traksel tried to follow him but he fell short and was back in the peloton over the descent.
Masciarelli was still out front when the 20km banner came into view.
It was about this time coming up to the final descent that I was close to cracking so I left Mori to do his business and would try to finish at my own pace. I did finish the with the main group Great success!
Going up the final ascent Mori attacked along with Kobzorenko, Capecchi, Moletta, Gentili, and Bernucci. Mori however didn't last as long as the other riders and sat in no mans land between the peloton and the leaders up front.
And it's... Capecchi... damnit. Buts should've had that KoM jersey. First disappointment for the year. He'll get his chance though. Just like I should get mine. I'm being told I'll be getting the chance to lead in a race soon. I wonder which one

The Team Manager gave me the go ahead to lead this race. Hopefully I won't disappoint him but, I don't think that I will be able to do very much as I'm not close to top form yet. I'll have Loosli there to protect me the entire race and someone else will try to get in the break.
Here I am with my awesome leaders number .
Now to the action... A breakaway of about 15 was eager to gain a gap but they were sucked up before the first climb even started.
As soon as they were caught, some more riders attacked and got a gap going up the climb. Nissen was able to attack the longest so there was group of about 7 behind him chasing him back.
Close to the top, Da Dalto came over the radio saying that he felt good and before we knew why he was telling us this, he was already bridging the gap.
The breakaway finally came together and started making some progress. 10 riders strong they got a gap of about 6 minutes at its peak.
Before the middle hill, Gene Bates (WTF?) and Stefano Garzelli broke away from the P and worked together for awhile to bridge the gap.
They did bridge the gap and as the second hill started attacks began as the pace increased. Weissinger, Syzmd, and Dall'Antonia all attacked but because of the fast pace of the peloton they didn't get very far and were caught on the downhill.
As the final hill started the breakaway still had a marginal gap but, it was doubtful that they would make it to the end.
Visconti attacks! This is starting to get serious.
Bernucci and Leukemans counter!
These are serious attacks and I really want to go with them but, I have to stay calm... I know that if I attack I'll completely burn myself out. So I stay patient and sit on and hope that this will come back together.
Thankfully I was correct to do so. The group swells back to 66 riders as the attackers are caught on the downhill. But... in no time more attacks come on the flat section. Leukemans attacks again and gets a small gap.
Visconti and Carrara counter. Carrara goes right by both Visconti and Leukemans and speeds off on his own.
Khalilov attacks and he is the only one who can catch up to Carrara. He latches on to his back wheel and now Carrara is looking in bad shape.
I'm ready! I attacked from the pack and blew right past the 4 behind Carrara and Khalilov.
Can I do it?!??

Just to add a feeling of progression to the story I'm not going to post his training potential. I'll tell you that he won't be contesting in any GT general classifications for sure though. Definetely stages though

Just so you, in case you haven't noticed, I'm trying to make some detailed reports.

Omloop Het Nieuwsblad
The weather was AWFUL. I loved it! I've always loved racing in the rain. Thankfully it wasn't windy. So the leader was chosen literally at the start line. Between me and Spilak, I was chosen because Spilak was complaining about a bad sleep and may not have had a good daily form. So it was up to me to deliver something good. I had my doubts but, I felt confident in having good daily form. Time for me to prove myself on the cobbles.
Shortly after the start... I didn't have the leader's number but that didn't matter at all.
My rivals for the day. Other pretty successful cobble riders were there such as Barredo, Van Impe, Lvinguist (spell check... lol), Leukemans, Smukulis, among others. I considered Klier and Hammond as my arch rivals though and I kept my eye glued on all the Cervelo riders today.
The race was neutral for a very long time. About 40k into the race 5 riders got away. None of them were big threats so the peloton let them go. They were out there for a LONG time.
OUCH... Velo took a tumble. I heard him go down... he smacked the ground hard. Everyone dodged him except for the unlucky Rubiero who was looking for his water bottle. Neither were injured, but they were left behind for the rest of the day.
The pace was controlled for most of the first half of the race by riders from Vacan, AG2R, and Liquigas. Oddly enough Quickstep and Cervelo's domestiques were chilling near the middle of the race.
Can't forget about CSC... As the cobbles and the hills started CSC came to the front and started injecting some pace into the peloton. It wasn't a mad chase for the breakaway but it was enough bring some pain to weak legs.
I sat patiently all day... lurking in the shadows.... hungry for BLOOD. Not really but, I conserved energy.
Spilak looked over at me and asked me how I was feeling. I told him I felt great so he decided to put a hard pace up some of the steep climbs.
Spilak didn't notice but his pace was too much for people to catch his wheel and he ended up riding off on his own without noticing. But I did....
His pace also caused splits in the peloton. The big P crumbled down from 102 riders... to 88 riders... to 66 riders. This was becoming a selective group.
Over the third to last ascent, Spilak told me to sit on his wheel. We moved right to the front and Spilak started up the pace again. We used our momentum wisely and powered up over the climb. The pack was down to 44 now and we kept it going down the descent.
I looked over my shoulder and I saw a gap of above 4 bikes between the my wheel and Fugslang's wheel. I shouted at Spilak, "KEEP GOING".
Up the penultimate climb we go and we catch the days breakaway (told you they were out for a long time). Right as we catch them one of the breakaway's riders gets a puncture.
Spilak kicks up the pace down the descent and our sportif comes over the radio... "3 minutes... wow"
OMG OMG OMG... I had to stay calm but this is huge. Hulmans and Barredo hit the deck. Horrillo also hits the deck but there were no cameras on him.
Meanwhile we catch Navarro. He looked terrible as we steamed past. He looked over at me with sunken eyes and dirt all over his face and I nodded and kept riding.
As we pull up Reynes, Spilak moves over to the right and says, "I'm done". I nodded and moved up to and past Reynes.
Barredo and Horrillo make it back to the remainder of the Peloton which is now hauling ass to try and catch up to us.
I'm out front and am in perfect position thanks to awesome riding by Spilak. I want to stop and help him to the finish but, I've got a race to finish. Reynes desperately clings to his wheel as we pass under the 20km banner. I start to get very excited but hold it in. I gotta finish.
10km.... no looking back now... it's so close... my legs still feel good. The gap back to Spilak and Reynes is a minute...
The pack is crazy trying to catch up. Attacks from everywhere... Van Impe, Smukulis, De Waele, Klier, even Barredo. I don't care... I'm getting closer to the finish... it's so close...
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!! Unbelievable!!!!!! I wasn't even a favorite!! It's all Spilak!!!!
Spilak stays strong and finishes 5th... The man is amazing!

February News
This February was an exciting month. Hopefully it's a sign of greater things to come. In other race news Carlos Barredo won at the Grand Prix Cycliste la Marseillaise edging out young Future Great Tejay van Gardenen and Victor Hugo Pena. Danish sprinter Alex Rasmussen won at the tour of Qatar. Martin Elmiger edged out Anthony Geslin at the Etoile de Besseges. No suprise, Valverde won at the Challenge Vuelta a Mallorca over Kim Kirchen. Carlos Barredo also pulled another victory at the Tour Mediterraneen. The Tour de Langkawi was won by Andrew Bajadali. Vuelta a Andalucia was won by Joaquin Rodriguez, the Tour du Haut Var was won by Philippe Gilbert, and the Volta ao Algarve was won by Thomas Dekker.

February was a very successful month for us. In an interview concerning future riders and contract renewals our team manager spoke of possibly letting go of some riders to sign some more prospectable riders. The team also made 2 offers to some riders that our talent scout thought would be future stars. We participated in the G.P. Costa degli Etruschi with Lorenzetto leading our team. Unfortunately his awful form gave him a struggle and he finished 12th. We also brought Damiano Cunego to the 9 stage Tour of California in which placed 7th overall which is a promising result for such an early race. I spoke with him and it seems that he wants to try and peak for the Hilly classics, skip the Giro, and go to the Vuelta instead and possibly win the WC. What a Giro will be like without Cunego?? I don't know.... We also brought Ballan to the Giro di Sardegna. He placed 5th in the 5 day stage race which is also promising.

My win in my 5th professional stage race and in my first professional cobbled race at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad was an amazing experience! It's very hard to describe! I've heard talk around the cycling world about me being a possible future cobbled classics winner... That... I don't know about but, I assured the reporter I'm doing the best I can. I'm being modest.... My next race might be Eroica but, the director sportif may have other ideas. We'll see!
