increase travelling costs
manindemaan
Hey guys,

I like the changes Cyanide made in the management/finance-part of the game, and especially with small teams I have the feeling that you have to take care of your budget, at least, if playing with a small one (i.e.less sponsor money than you pay on riders wages).
However, I think what's pretty unrealistic are the travelling costs towards races. I'm not that bothered with the fact that for me it doesn't matter that the travelling costs are (mostly) indifferent to the travelled distance, but I think that they are too low in general! As soon as you finish in the top 10 for one stage, you normally have your travel costs back (as prize money). That cannot be true, can it (I'm not from cycling, therefore I don't know, but I'll explain...)

First of all, with 120 euro you don't get that far around the world. Then, when in a race, especially a stage race, you do need accomodation, helpers, food, transport, fuel for your team cars that follow the pack, etc.. In large stage races I guess it's even more (maybe there's a team who published the average daily costs of a day in the Tour de France?). Therefore, I wanted to increase the travelling costs in general, and take a look what else is possible.

but....

well, I could edit the costs, and the database (STA_travelling_costs or something like that) was even prepared to make travelling costs different depending on home and race country and even types (class) of races. Anyway, only two values could be found, which were 127 (euro per day for races in foreign countries), or 100 (euros per day for races in your home or adjacent countries). Hey, simple, I thought, put in some higher values, loaded the game and .. travelling costs were negative. Uhm... I tried different values, could decrease travelling costs (with them staying positive) or could make them negative..
It seems to be that values higher than 128 tend to get negative first (-1 to -127 ingame costs), even higher values make the story positive again, but starting at 1 and going up to 127 only (at least the values I tested, and did it up to values in the 2000s).

Summary:
In STA_travelling_costs ARE the travelling costs, but values higher than (standard) 127 lead to negative values ingame, and even higher values in the DB to low positive values ingame again, never exceeding the 127/day.. I wanna pay more ! (well, don't know if that is that realistic... :))

Since I wasn't interested in reducing the costs....
I failed. Does anyone has another idea?

I tried to change it years ago but had the same problems. My guess is that the game does not use STA_travelling_costs to calculate these costs, because in the game you see costs which cannot be found there.

Furthermore, if you would enter real costs, it would destroy the gameplay as the budget is to low compared to real live.

aren't the costs ingame just a multiplication of the db-value by the number of race days? that's what i observed..
and maybe not real costs, but somewhat more towards real would already help a lot.
