Giro d'Italia - Stage 11

A transition stage today, which should see a win for a Breakaway. Perhaps Bouygues or FDJ can finally earn some points from the Giro?

A 13 man break got the peleton's blessing. Bradley Wiggins was the highest placed rider - 31 minutes down.

Wiggins was also 1 or only 4 riders in the break who had not previously been a breakaway in the Giro. Riders include the 4 who made it to the line just infront of the pack in Stage 9 (Mangel, Velo, Bates and Bernucci), Nicki Sorenson (Caught 3.4km from the line in Stage 8) and Rubens Bertogliati (Caught 0.4km from the line in Stage 7).

The peleton kept the breaks gap controlled but never chased hard and looked set to have a relaxing day until:

JJ Haedo was moving forward on the left to line up for the peleton's sprint. He suddenly cut inwards towards the middle, chopping up 11th Overall Ruben Plaza, who fell (Haedo did not though). The crash also took down 4 Liquigas riders, including 13th Overall: Iban Mayo, plus 18th Overall: Lampre's Bruseghin. 5 Bouygues riders dropped back to help - but sped off again before they allowed the group to catch up!

Up front there was a sprint though. Who would win?

It's third time lucky for Laurent Mangel (In his 3rd break), break Mengin scores FDJs first Giro points and Bertogliati takes 3rd.
