he ythere, im still fairly new to pcm, only starting from pcm 07 which i barely played, to pcm 08 and pcm 09 which i played on and off.
one thing iv never quite got the hang of is how many days of racing should a rider have per season?
i normally play conti teams and not pro tour, but i never know what the right balance is, as i see their fatigue go up really high, and dont know if its because they do too much training (should i take them off a trainer for a while to bring it down?) or because they have raced too many days.
for a team leader, how many events or days should he be racing per season in order to for the team to stay competitive, but without burning out the stars?
Yep, from 60 on it gets gradually worse. Racing Fitness to be more specific. The max goes from 20 to 18 (at 61 days) down to 10 (at 70) , so after 70 days the maximum fitness a guy can have is 90 (80/80 training + 10/10 racing).
That doesn´t mean that a rider is becoming totally useless though, just don´t expect him to be at the top of his abilities.
Basically i would put his "role" and your expectations of him 1 lower once he hits 60 or 65 days. So a rider normally a captain would still make a good free rider and a formidable helper, a great primary helper (a captain´s lieutnant) can still be a pretty good helper.
Or if a guy would be normally a candidate for the Top3 you might have to settle for a 7-10 position.
At least that´s from a small sample and logical thinking, can´t really verify over more than 1 season yet.
Although locigally most riders having 60-70 race days might have had long periods of (intense) training and might have a lot of training fatigue as well and that might lower their maximum training fitness and so further lower their overall fitness. So you need to plan your season in advance a bit to avoid that.

The manual says that you will destroy the evolution of your young riders if the race to much days.
But it does not say how many days is to much, how old these youngsters can be. Also it is not proven, that the game is really screwing them.
In previous versions some people hinted that ~40 days is the max. for a young rider, but I've never seen any young rider's potential being utterly destroyed. Then again, I've also never tried to take that risk
Generally I have the following order:
- Leader (40-60 days)
- Leader/Protected Rider/Luxury Team Mate (40-60; if they have early aspirations, they can always be a helper for somewhere else after they hit 40 race days)
- Team mate (60-80 days)
- Young rider (30-40 days; they're generally not the best riders anyway, so just give them a few small races and let them help out with a few bigger races)
It doesn't matter much if your average Joe has 100 fitness or 70 if the only thing he has to do is protecting your leader for the first 100 km flat, so just make sure that the most tired people are doing the work before the others. Just make sure that you don't burn up the riders who will have to do the work in the last third of the race.
