Hey there guys.
I have some questions regarding moutain stages, or hilly stages aswell.
If i have a rider and i want to make breakaway or try to breakaway myself,
i have to take in concideration of the yellow and the red bar.
And i know its hard to make a breakaway alone.
but, i can manage to make a breakaway and the get the red bar up gain.
but the yellow is hard i know.
So
1. If i have a full red bar and a very low/empty yellow bar, does it mean i can ride at 95-95% and attack, or shall i have the yellow bar up aswell?
2. can you guys, please give some good advices and some strategies to race in the hilly or mountain stages (if u wants to make breakaways aswell)
Hope u guys can help, and give me some advices.
since i cant get it to work as expected.

This is how my underdogs (not great, but good climbers/puncheurs) win mountain stages.
Most importantly, you have to start a race in good condition to be able to make a good effort in the tough mountains, or hills. If you're in a stage race and there are two consecutive mountain stages, finish the first one in the groupetto and save as much energy as possible. By energy I mean the green bar.
When I'm going for stage wins, i protect my main rider with a good team mate climber to get him past the first lets say half of the stage.
During the first climb(s), i put the main man on dot (free ride) and optimize his workload so as not to drop too far down the pack, or what is better, to maintain position with minimal strain. You don't want your climbers in red heartbeat too early in the stage.
When the things get interesting and the race is aproaching it's final 30-40km, i put my other good team mate climber to protect my main man because the first one is probably dead tired by now (watch out for the green bar as the stage goes).
And at the foot of the climb, you start your attack. Use your remaining team mates that have good acceleration to start an attack, and instruct your leader whom you have pushed to the front of the pack to do counter-attack. Do this until your acc man has strength, then let him do the dot at 55 to survive the stage.
Pay attention of your yellow and red bars, as you will need a lot of strength to make a good brakeaway and beat the favourites.
Everything from here is a typical mountain time-trial. Make sure that the heart rate is always in yellow (<182 if I'm right, don't hold my word on this ) because you lose your yellow and red bars much faster if your doing the max.
The perfect balance between the workload and the remaining power, if your rider is in a good form (+2 to +4), shoud put you in the final kilometer or two solo, or in the worst case, you will have to sprint for victory, but either way, your chances for victory are much greater that way than entering a mountain-top sprint with all the favourites.
This is entirely my approach to the game, and it works good when managing pro tour teams that can sacrifice 2-3 or even more team mates in big stage races to put their leader in the finishing position.
Hope it helps you in your game.

Hey champ.
That was great info.
Ill try that. thanks alot for the help.
I still need answers to my first question though:
To make an attack/Breakaway, do u both need Red and Yellow Bar, or is it enough with one of them (Red a assume) ? |

Red is the primary one, it gets used up faster/slower depending on your fighter stat, and the number of times you previously attacked during the stage. One well planned attack should be enough.
The yellow bar represents your general ability, and available strenght, to do anything, including the attack

In other words: Make sure that the yellow bar of your rider is NEVER empty before the climb is over. So never go to fast, it is all about the heart rate. |

Or protect your best clibmer for whole stage with your second best climber(s), stay near the front of the peloton (not at front ofc), and if opponent favourites attack at last climb, attack/counterattack with them... |

Sometime my Juan Valdez team will be able to do such a thing. Right now I don't have but a bunch of youngsters, two sprinters and Soler. He has to do all by himself in the mountains (I even got 6 riders out of the race at the Giro due to being out of time limits )

Yes. The Blockhaus stage. But I took out another 20 with me. Not too much of a relief, anyways, because they were sprinters and mine were supposed climbers or stage racers.
