Hi, im new to the game and i know that this is probably a n00b question, but what dictates your ability to attack? For some reason, with certain riders in certain situations the attack button doesnt show up for me.
For example, during the Paris-Roubaix, when riding with Pozzato, i cant attack or counterattack and it makes it really hard to win when Boonen is able to attack in the last couple of kilometers and all i can do is follow.
Any help would be appreciated, and sorry if this question is answered elsewhere |

You can only attack if you have still some of the red bar remaining. About the duration of the attack, that depends on the inclination of the road and the stats of the rider, mostly Fighter.

The red bar indicates how long you can attack. But the yellow bar is also involved. Did you read the manual page 36 (11.2.1) |

Yeah I read the manual and understand what the yellow and red bars mean.
This happens when Pozzato has a fully Yellow and Red bar. Both the Attack and Counter Attack buttons are greyed out.
Is there anything else that would make it not possible to attack? |

Are you sure you have clicked on the rider?

I haven't tried PCM 09 yet but in 08 if you had a rider selected from your team but were moused over a rider from another team, for example clicked on Pozzato but used the mouse wheel or arrows to look at another rider then you can't use the attack keys or things of the sort, so maybe see if that's the problem

I dont know if this is the solution for you, but I think i recall that I had a problem like this during a stage of the Giro.
The thing was that I had told Michael Rogers to look at Di Luca.. (you know... when your rider gather information about another riders form, shape etc)
When i had one rider checking up on another rider, the attack button was gone.. when I took the surveilance off, the attackbutton was ready to be clicked..
Test it out, maybe thats the problem?
They have this great beer here in England, I really love it. Its called Pint.

Had the same thing. I was in a break-away trying to get points for my mountain jersey, and was observing riders in my breakaway group. Everytime we reached the top a guy sprinted away and stole my points while I couldnt attack.
Took me a while to figure out it was cause he was observing another rider... |

In 08' i remember being able to click a counter-attack button(on the square of information) if the rider you were observing attacked... havent seen it in 09' but that would be a quite strange change(since i mean you are staring at him ;< ) |

I think that's it. I was observing Boonen with Pozzato at the time. I will have to remember to stop observing in the last 30kms or so.
Thanks guys for your help |

It is not written too well in the manual. It says something like: You can faster follow the attacks of the observed rider. (Whatever that means) |
