A mountain top finish so the break of crap climbers was of little importance. But then a strong group of riders attacked from the peleton and formed a chase group.
Gomez Marchante, Serpa, Lopez Garcia, Cobo, Cardenas, Mazzanti. Rujano and Nibali.
With only Cofidis chasing they gained over 2 minutes and then Liquigas and Caisse sent a couple of men to help Cofidis, so Cardenas and Nibali refused to wrok for the group.
At the foot of the final climb, they held 2 and a half minutes over the peleton (They had dropped Serpa though) - could they win it? Back in the peleton, Brajkovic launched the attacks.
With 5.3km to go Brajkovic and Leipheimer had bridged the gaps and set about testing the breakaway.
Cobo, Nibali, Mazzanti, and lopez Garcia were dropped but looked to get back again as the chasing group was closing in on the front group. Infortunately an idiot named Nibali, despite having a lot of red, and been dropped from the lead group, he took a long turn at the front, destroying himself, and the chase groups chances of catching up.
Levi makes his move:
And Levi wins:
