Lone attack likely
Stage 19 from Bougoin-Jallieu to Aubenas could well see a breakaway or lone attacker succeed as the GC leaders will save their energy for tomorrow's hardest day on the Mont Ventoux, and the sprinter teams may be too tired to reel anyone back in on the 178 kilometre course. The Tour de France is almost over as the bunch will wind its way southwards through the Rhône valley. With a little back wind, this is a perfect chance for anyone still fresh to get some precious TV time and possibly a stuffed toy lion on a podium in Aubenas.

The GC favorits won't do anything tomorow, they'll save energy for Ventoux. I expect Moncoutie to win here it suits him perfectly, and is very like the stage he won to Digne-les-Bains in 2005.

Breakaway day, while the favourites will save energy for Mont Ventoux.
Chris Anker has said that he would like to go on the break here, on the other hand. Doesn't sound very likely after all.
Maybe a day for Tony Martin is he isn't too tired.

I would've gone with Moncoutie aswell, but he seems to be in awful shape. I don't think we'll see anything to him for the remainder of this race.

I doubt it. He'll most probably just sit on cavendish's wheel and mark him until a break goes clear. Don't think he'll want to waste so much energy now, and rather save it till Paris, and hope to win again there, although that is unlikely.
If children have the ability to ignore all odds and percentages, then maybe we can all learn from them. When you think about it, what other choice is there but to hope? We have two options, medically and emotionally: give up, or Fight Like Hell.

Moncoutie has tried for a lot of breaks he just never seems to be in one that gets away. As far as a stage winner goes, moureu looks like he is hitting form nicely

Rojas, Freire and Hushovd should be able to sit along across that climb. But they are probably not going to fight for victory. I have a hard time imagining one of their teams catching a break. Cervelo and Caisse d'espargne already have victories and Rabobank are just poor. And everybody is tired and saving energy for Mont Ventoux.
So breakaway. Dreamingly Vandborg would win, but it's maybe to hard for him at the end. Maybe Chavanel has something left. Nicolas Roche or Bennati could go in a break, but needs to hold a small group together for a finish. |

I am guessing Pate or Zabriskie goes on the break for Garmin and wins the race |

Hopefully. Zabriskie is more likely to conserve energy to help Wiggins tomorrow. Pate though has a good shot. I think Wiggins should go in a solo breakaway and time trial to the finish and take the yellow jersey by the end of the stage. This may come as a surprise coming from an American but I hope Wiggins knocks off Armstrong tomorrow(and im not one of those euro-americans who hate Armstrong). A Wiggins podium would be brilliant.

Wrote this to CN forum - copying here :
"The only overall guy I can even imagine to attack there is Nibali.
Especially if they get Pellizotti, Willems, Kuschynski or Vandborg up the road to help with a little extra pull.
And as Nibali is probably the most daring downhiller of them all (overall contenders) as of today.
True, the descent doesn't seem steep or dangerous enough to give a chance for that either...
Still, I'd like him to try anyway - he is right now totally forgotten from the discussion of podium, but still only 1 min 50 secs back from Armstrong.
If others play safe (as they probably should), Nibali could use a strong acceleration some 2 km from the top, try to open 15-20 seconds of advantage and then risk everything downhill (even better chance with a bit of rain on a day). Such an attack could bring him to about one minute from podium and make Ventoux even more interesting.
Besides, it would ABSOLUTELY not matter if Contador/Andy/both would stay on his wheel - Nibali is no longer riding against them!
It would be worth of attack IF he could just budge one of the quartet in front of him... And he is the ONLY one in position where risking it all downhill makes sense."
P.S. Self-confidence in picks running high after naming Ignatiev & Millar as contenders yesterday
And even Stef Clement almost matched Lance...
Although, I admit that Koen de Kort was not worth of mentioning... |

If before the race someone told you that Cadel would be far enough behind that he could get in the breakaway in stage 19 and not get pulled back, would you believe them? |

Well they aren't letting the breakaway get very far.

I imagine to setup Freire for the final sprint.
In addition, there's no one in the break close enough to worry the main GC contenders.

Odd... looks like the sprint teams with a guy who can climb are targeting this stage. Would have thought the mountain would be tough enough to prevent that... but if the GC guys don't hammer the pace then I guess we could get a Hushovd vs Friere sprint (maybe with Ciolek as well).
I'm hoping for the break though. If climbers in the group hit the gas hard at the base of the climb with a decent lead, the only way the pelaton catches them is if they go at a pace that will shed even the best climbing sprinters. I'd prefer to see a climber get it. |

Rabo has to do SOMEthing this Tour, so I'd try to put Freire in position today. |
