Hang on, one more mountain to go
With the Alpine stages finally over, the bunch now tackles the final time trial, but three days earlier than usual. A picturesque 40km-loop around the lake of Annecy gives the time trial specialists their last chance to gain time on the climbers, with the final battle still to come on the weekend.
Nevertheless, the course also includes some rolling climbs as it takes the riders into the lakeside hills on the second half of the race against the clock. Every second will count for the general classification.

I would expect some big rides from good TT guys who haven't been forced to give their all in last mountain days :
Millar, Jose Ivan Gutierrez, maybe Tony Martin used yesterday to recover, Stef Clement hasn't been working for no one lately, Mikhail Ignatiev & Koen de Kort too.
Last time we had a power TT right after multiple mountain days (Giro 2008), the Top 10 of the TT consisted following riders (their final overall position) :
1. Marco Pinotti (65.)
2. Tony Martin (128.)
3. Mikhail Ignatiev (140.)
4. Bradley Wiggins (134.)
5. Christian Vandevelde (52.)
6. Danny Pate (137.)
7. Daniele Bennati (70.)
8. Steven Cummings (96.)
9. Vladimir Gusev (45.)
10. Jens Voigt (53.)
As the best of these 10, Vladimir Gusev finished Giro 1 hr 34 mins behind Maglia Oro Contador (who finished 11th in that TT).
I don't expect anything AS drastic but don't expect overall candidates to man all the top positions....
OTOH, not only Cancellara, but also f ex Zabriskie and Gustav Larsson have probably left quite a bit of energy in last mountains... |

I don't think that Cancellara will win today's time trial. He's probably too wasted.
I've no idea about the winner, though. It's usually one from the GC, and if Wiggins aren't too dead after yesterday, I guess he's a good pick. |

good idea...
margins in GC are rather small, and Mt.Ventoux still ahead, favourites needs to get good results...and also it depends on how much are TT specialist tired...normaly would Cancellara beta everybody by 1 minute but after 3000km....

Terpstra has started fast from early starters...
Ignatiev, Pate & Grabsch coming soon... They should give some indications.

Terpstra is flying... He might even catch everyone who started in front of him - 2-, 4- and 6-minute men. |

Forgot about Muravyev. 2-time Kazakh champion - could be going allout to set marks for Astana team mates... |

1:11 ahead of everyone else in 18 km. If he keeps this up, we have 1st man to definitely finish in Top 10.

Yes, Bluffy climb seems severe enough that it causes 1-minute losses in 3,5 kms.
P.S. Grabsch may still set quality splits up to the climb.... |

Interesting trio of Vandborg, Clement, de Kort starting next. I think there is one Top 10 performance in that group. |

As isso prognosted : Grabsch (after solid early splits) just lost more than a minute to Ignatiev in that Bluffy climb. Even more compared to Terpstra who is fastest so far on that section. |

They have a wrong time (approx. 5 minutes too good) for Danny Pate in last intermediate check, but other than that it's working fine. |
