Brandy not included
Following the second rest day the Tour heads back to France via the northwest corner of Italy. Two mountains are on the programme for today, the Col du Grand-Saint-Bernard (24.4 km at 6.2 percent), which separates Switzerland from Italy, and the Col du Petit-Saint-Bernard (22.6 km at 5.1 percent), from which the riders will descend into France again. In between those two mountains, the bunch will race through the famous Aosta valley.
The thin air on the first of the two climbs located at 2,469 metres above sea level after a gruelling long ascent from the very start of the stage will make life difficult for the riders, especially since they hit the next mountain right afterwards. It is a merciless stage - there will be no time to recover.
The finish in Bourg-Saint-Maurienne comes after a steep descent of the Col du Petit-Saint-Bernard - fast enough to provide the opportunity for time gaps as big as those of an uphill finish. Will the GC riders neutralize each other, as well as riders off the front?

Think of the Augustyn stage last year ... and repeat. (Perhaps without the crash)

It's like the stage Soler won in 2007. Expect a similar result

Simply because in the second one there was a strong headwind that left no one with the power to attack except for Sastre and A.Schleck who were asked by yellow jersey Frank not to attack (meanwhile, Riis was yelling at Frank "Stop being a pussy. If you want to win the Tour it's got to hurt NOW".) |

This would be great for Chavanel if he had targeted the polka dot jersey as an objective or if he hadn't tired himself earlier...
Anyway Rojas takes my bet

I´m so dissapointed with the organizers. Why the hell cant the end the stage at the top. We have 3 mountaintop finishes this year and all of them are too easy, only final climbs are tough, though only Ventoux is really hard. Way too easy.

I mean the nothing like Alpe Huez(i know spelled wrong) last year. There isnt a stage with several hard climbs, if there were then we´d see a more interesting race like Sastre attacking, he really needs a tough stage that wears out everybody.

In last years tour the only real difficult stages with attacking were the stage to Hautacam, Prato Nevoso, and Alpe d'Huez. The tour last year had 4 mountaintop finishes if you count Super-Besse. I don't really think there's much of a difference from last year to this year. The Alpine stages are virtually identical in profile minus Stage 17 having 4 cat. 1's instead of 3 HC's.
Anyways, I think a guy like Moncoutie has a solid chance to win tomorrow if he times his attack at the right spot. The early break tomorrow will not win. |

Havent you seen that both the Giro and the Tour have been really flat this year. I think it is good and I think it is done to prevent drugs. Tou see, the hard stages in the earlier Tours have made rider take drugs because the moutains was so hard.

It doesn't matter, riders will take drugs anyway. They won't stop because the races are easier. |
