Le Tour 09: Stage 14 - Colmar - Besanço

Last chance for sprinters and escape artists

The wine capital of Alsace, Colmar, will see the riders depart on a 199km journey to Besançon for one of the last chances for the sprinters to shine.

One day before heading towards the mountain passes of the Alps, the flat route of today's stage 14 is an excellent chance for another bunch sprint finish.

However, the bunch is starting to get tired, and the long road to the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Besancon citadel could also see escapists get some well-deserved fame.

I actually think Cav is too tired now. My favorite had been Freire but he was shot. Maybe Hushovd or Boonen will take this one.

Cav tired .. on what basis?

I think itll come down to a sprint tomorrow, and I dont see anyone beating Cav - who will be particularly motivated after Hushovd today

Columbia is going to work for a sprint finish now that they're down in the points race. In fact I wouldn't be shocked if they control breaks until at least the first sprint.

As tired as Cav might be, with the effort Hushovd put in today to stay in the pelaton he's got to be worse off. Maybe Farrar can get a win, but I think there's zero chance Thor beats Cav in any sprint tomorrow.

Columbia will be the only team working for a mass sprint. I don't think any team is retarded enough to ride with them

It feels so very strange to read that sentence.

Cav really struggled today. That's why I think he's a little tired. He's young too and has never finished le tour.

Tom Boonen is gonna take this easily. He's been saving his power all tour for this particular stage.

Is finishing at the head of the Grupetta struggling? Sounds more like conserving energy to me.

I mean by that logic, the only sprinters who might not have struggled are Friere (who finished 3 minutes ahead of the sprinter group), Hushovd and Hassler.

I'd lean more toward Hushovd and Hassler being dead from their effort and the other sprinters being rested (including Cav).

Cav wins , Hushovd will win sprints in every hard stage , it will reach down to who will manage to win in Paris for the green jersey
