A way to make simulating stages more realistic?

I like playing almost all types of stages, but there are flat, uninteresting bits that I simulate only to have some breakaway 21 year old get 8 minuts over the peloton and my leader even if set two of my riders to chase breaks. Any way to make this part f the game more realistic (as in eliminating the most extreme results, not winning every simulated stage)?

When i simulate i either have all my riders chase breakaways and breakaways with a dangerous rider and maybe 1 set to sit on breakaways and not take part. Or i'll have one rider go on a breakaway and all my other riders except for my leader on chase breakaways with a dangerous rider. It sometimes works but sometimes puncheurs win stages by 30 seconds or so. My advice - don't sim stages that are important and never sim a stage if you have yellow and its the last stage, and its a flat. I had Simon Gerrans lose yellow on the last stage of the Tour Down Under even though i put my teammates on chase all breakaways... i was pissed

I lost the Tour of California by simulating just one stage.

Dont sim, been playing since PCM 06 and i havent simmed a stage since then, except maybe TTT.

Maybe the most funny and the most difficult stages (because you can't train them much, you ride about 3 a year) Smile
